Chapter 48 Lucien’s POV
Chapter 48 Lucien’s POV
Lucien’s POV
The moment those words came out of her mouth, I knew that she was very angry probably with the noise that was coming out from our own end.
Declan and I.
But it wasn’t my fault; I was trying to protect her and make sure her mother was safe.
We both turned around and looked at her. She was already standing up, but then she was still looking confused, and her eyes were directly fixed on us.
Her face showed that she didn’t understand what was happening, and she could also understand and didn’t want to contribute to it. I mean, who wouldn’t even understand that Declan was trying to come to her, and he was using her mother as leverage.
But not while I was there because I’m not going to allow it to happen. I really didn’t understand what he wanted. At some point, he preferred to be with Whitney, and now he is choosing her again.
I made a promise to Whitney that I was going to take June away from Declan and that was exactly what had happened. If she had not caught him cheating, she would probably still be there.
I didn’t really ask too much about what they were talking about. The most important thing was that I was there to protect her and that moment when I walked inside and saw her on the floor, it changed a lot of things.
I never made a promise to Whitney that I was going to protect Declan. So it’s already obvious that I can team up with him because he wouldn’t go free if he tried to harm June.
She took a deep breath and quickly brushed her hair backward from her face.
“Lucien… what are you doing here?” she asked.
I couldn’t believe that she was still asking that same question. What was I doing there? What was I supposed to do in the first place?
I couldn’t say the reason why I had come properly, but I had to think of something. Declan entered the hospital room without taking proper permission from June and I was also guilty of the same thing.
I kept my eyes on Declan for another moment before answering.
“I came to check on you.”
That was the only thing I could think about, but it was actually true. Before I arrived there, I had already gotten information about what was going on there, and I was also told that Declan was in the hospital.
I just had to come and protect her, even though she wouldn’t see any reason for it.
After hearing about her mother being in the hospital and her condition gradually getting better, I had to come and visit her.
The last time, I remembered that I paid some of the medical bills, and the first time, I also remembered that I cleared all the bills, and the only reason why I did not complete the payment for the second time was that she wanted to be a part of clearing bills.
I honestly don’t know what she enjoys in all of that, but it was fine.
June blinked, clearly surprised.
Declan let out a loud sigh.
“This is ridiculous,” he muttered. “There is absolutely no reason for him to be here and don’t forget about our past because I wouldn’t want to see you choose this man over me. He is just confused and young.”
I know. I wanted to reply to him at that moment because I knew how young I was and what he didn’t know was that I was in charge of the same thing he couldn’t control.
“You just don’t know how to control what you have, I will take care of it from here. And thank you for your efforts.” I finally replied to him.
His face immediately showed irritation, but there was something else too.
Defensiveness.
“You two are acting as if I attacked her,” he said. “She slipped.”
Maybe that was true.
Maybe it wasn’t.
But the way June held her arms around herself made me doubt him and there was no way he was going to defend that. Everything was clear and what he didn’t know was that I had already taken a picture before I entered.
I took a deep breath and stepped closer to him. Although I was not fast, I was close enough to make my point to him. “I want you to listen carefully,” I whispered.
His jaw immediately tightened, and I could tell that he was angry, but there was nothing he could do to me.
Just one mistake from him, and he is done for good.
“If I ever walk into a room again and see her on the floor while you’re standing over her…”
I paused and took another step closer because I wanted him to hear this part clearly. It’s not even basic talk anymore. This was a warning and I hope he understands it.
“…you will regret it.”
His eyes narrowed.
“You don’t control me,” he said sharply.
“I’m so sorry, Declan,” I replied quickly, my voice covered with sarcasm. “I don’t need to but I will advise that you should learn how to walk away when it’s your time to walk away,”
For a moment, none of us talked to each other, and neither of us moved. June on the other hand was just silent. And the air between us was heavy at that time.
Then after three good minutes, Declan finally grabbed his jacket from the chair and then looked at me again. “This is a stupid conversation. I should have never engaged with you.”
Yeah… you should have never engaged with me. Maybe you could have asked your girlfriend and then she would have told you what you should do.
He walked toward the door and stopped beside me.
I didn’t know why he had to stop, but it could be possible that he wanted to run a punch on my face.
But then, I was waiting for what he could probably do at that moment.
He is just trying to look tougher in any way and he didn’t know that there are certain ways he has to act to make things in order.
“You think you’re protecting her,” he said quietly.
“But you don’t even know her.”
“Trust me, I know her very well,” I replied quickly.
“You should be the one watching your back because I’m not going to go lightly on you.”
That was another mistake that was coming from him because he thought I didn’t know anything about June. I knew everything that he didn’t know and he wouldn't understand.
“Thank you for helping me out,” June said with a soft voice.
I let out a warm smile and then kept my eyes forward because she wouldn’t even stop looking at me and I knew that she was probably wondering what could’ve given me the audacity to talk to Declan like that.
He was one of the most senior staff members in the company, and everybody respected him a lot except me.
What he didn’t know was that, with just a single call, everything would be over for him. I just have to stay calm, but soon, he won't even escape from the tip of my finger.
