CHAPTER THIRTY TWO
CHAPTER THIRTY TWO
Rosetta's Pov
My eyes fluttered, and to one side was a drip stand, rushed into my veins at the back of my palm. "Her eyes just opened" I heard the person in a white coat say.
I must have been saved by someone. I thought it was the end when I began to cough blood and my vision blurred. I thought I wouldn't get to see life again.
But, here I was given another chance at life.
"I didn't die," I said out loud and a chuckle escaped my lips. "Unbelievable, you strong fucking idiot Rosetta!" I cussed.
"You were brought in on time and that was why your life was saved."
I sat up, although still having a slight headache, I looked around the wardroom, trying to see who had saved me.
Who would save me when they want me dead? Matteo had brought me food. It must be the food I ate that caused this, but the thought of Matteo poisoning me was such a ridiculous thing. He was kind, that I know.
My stomach grumbled in hunger as I tried to speak. "Who brought me here?" I asked.
I could make my guesses. It was either Doom and the others who were having a room round, wondering who was left behind in the task and found me. Or Matteo didn't poison me with that food as I thought and he was the one that brought me here.
My phone, which was placed on the small shelf beside the bed, started to ring. I was shocked that my phone was with me here, but I didn't hesitate to pick it up either.
"Is everything okay?" Jessie's voice buzzed from the phone.
"Yes, everything is fine," I responded.
"Someone picked up the call, saying you were at the hospital"
"Yes," I answered her. "I think I was poisoned," I muttered softly. That was the right explanation. Jessie was shocked, but I had to call her down by speaking a little louder and clearer. "There's no pain, everything is fine Jessie. I'll reach out to you again when I leave the hospital" I said to her.
After hanging up, I gazed at the ceiling without saying a word. Soon, I jumped up
"Can I still make it to the contest?" I looked at the wall for the time. "I still have three minutes to meet up. I need to go" I said, trying to get off my bed and struggling to remove the drip. A nurse hurriedly approached me to make me stable.
"Please be calm," she said in a high voice.
"You have been here for two days" The doctor responded. My eyes widened.
Wait, what?
"Two days? That means…the contest…"
"Yes, the contest is over." I heard his voice, as he approached me from the room door. His gaze never left mine… "You have been disqualified, Rosetta." He said. "I don't know if it is still necessary to hand you the disqualification paper, but if you need some evidence, I collected this for you," he said and he smiled.
I hated it, hated why he was here or why he had collected my disqualification paper. I snatched the paper from his hand and read through it. It was true. Doom had disqualified me for lateness, for leaving the premises and using the last chance I had.
I roughened the paper, dejection coating my skin. I had failed and he had won. The smile on his face proved that. He had waited for this opportunity and I despised that Asher won me.
The doctor and nurse left the room and I laid back in the bed, unable to see Asher's eyes. What does he have to say now? That he had won me just like he won my parents, that he was ready to kill me now since I had been so stubborn to challenge him.
"Satisfied?" I muttered. "Are you fucking satisfied with what you did to me?" I jumped off from the bed, facing him but the drip line seemed to draw me back.
He stared down at me, something that looked like pity as he watched me pant and fight for breath. "Are you fine now?" His hand grazed my hair and I pushed it away. "Where does it hurt?" His palm grazed the cannula of the drip.
"Don't fucking behave like you care when you did this to me! Tell me. What did you put in the food? Who did you frame? You planned to kill me, right? Are you surprised that I am not dead?"
He didn't say a word. He just started. Which upset me.
"When I talk to you, you speak!" I screamed.
He exhaled, bringing out another piece of paper from his pocket, and pointed it out to me. I hesitated at first but then grabbed it to read. It was his disqualification letter, with his name on it. I didn't bother to read the reasons why he was disqualified, I threw it at him.
"We're in the same shoes, Rosetta. No one is going for the heist."
It didn't make me feel better. I knew Asher.
"Doom caught you. Doom knew you poisoned me and he disqualified you. You got what you deserve, what is the fuss about?"
He looked confused at first, but his countenance soon changed. "Nothing I would say would change your mind" he mumbled under his breath.
"I want to get out of here!" I shouted.
"Not until you get well" he pushed me back on the bed, very hard I doubted he even cared for my health. "Everyone your luggage and mine have been thrown outside, you do not have the opportunity to see Doom, and apologize also. So just get well first before any more stupid decisions."
I held my fist. He deserved a knock or a blow…or whatever I can do with my hands. Like he knew what I was thinking, he walked out of the ward, leaving me to my thoughts and my newfound failure.
