Chapter 8 The first spark
Antonella Erickson - POV
“Where did you two meet?” Beta Murphy questioned.
“Restaurant,” I replied.
“Bar.” Alpha Alexus replied at the same time when we both looked at each other. I turned back to look at Beta Murphy, whose face was written in confusion. “I first saw her at the restaurant when I felt something stir within me, so I followed her around town until she entered a bar, and I confirmed my suspicion when our hands touched,” he lied.
“Well, I guess it's a good thing that you found your mate at last, Max. You know things were getting out of hand.” Beta Murphy said when he turned to face me. “Welcome to the pack, Luna Evangeline.”
“Thank you.” I told him with a small smile on my face.
“I will let you two settle down, and I will come to meet you later?” Beta Murphy said.
“Is everything okay?” Alpha Alexus asked when I saw a stoned look appear on Beta Murphy’s face.
“We will talk about it later, Max. You show her around first,” he said before he bowed at both of us and began walking back towards the pack. Once he disappeared around the corner, Alpha Alexus moved away from me.
“Let me show you your room.” Alpha Alexus told me when I nodded my head. He walked to the front door and fished out the keys from his pocket before he opened the door and stepped inside while I followed him.
The place was huge as I stared at the foyer. Right in front of me there was a glass staircase that led to the second floor, and on either side of it there were hallways. Alpha Alexus walked down the hallway to the right while I followed him. The hallway gradually widened until it opened into a kitchen, which made my eyes widen in awe.
“You look stunned.” Alpha Alexus joked as he opened the fridge and took out a bottle of water.
“Your place is beautiful.” I told him. The kitchen cabinets were done in a pastel green color, and right in front of me there was a huge glass wall that was overlooking the forest.
“Thank you,” he replied. “Would you like a cup of coffee?” he asked me when I nodded my head as I took a seat at the island.
“Did you feel it?” I asked Alpha Alexus as he took a seat beside me.
“It’s supposed to act like a mate bond, Antonella,” he said.
“Do you think Elijah would have felt me cheating on him last night?” I asked Alpha Alexus, guilt filling my veins. He may have been cheating on me for years, but he is still my mate, and I just couldn't bring myself to accept the truth that our bond is broken.
“I don't know.” Alpha Alexus whispered when I saw his blue eyes shining with honesty when I looked away. I should be petrified about Alpha Aleuxs. My mind should be working on ways to leave him because he is the enemy. He has killed a lot of my pack warriors for reasons unknown, and he is also hell-bent on killing Elijah, but strangely I feel safe with him.
Elijah might have cheated on me, and I will never forgive him for that, but I am confused as to how I am able to move on from that pain so soon. Could it be because of the mate bond that I have with Alpha Alexus?
There is a small part within me that wants to stay with him, and this scares the living daylights out of me. My gaze was locked on the coffee while I struggled to understand my emotions. “I think he still wants you.” Alpha Alexus’s words broke me out of my thoughts.
“What?” I asked him with my eyebrows scrunched when Alpha Alexus showed me today’s edition of Wolf Daily. There was a huge picture of me, and right under it there was a headline written.
Luna Antonella Erickson was kidnapped by rogues early on Christmas Eve. Alpha Alastair is furious and vows to find her soon and kill the rogues.
A sarcastic smile appeared on my face when I shook my head. “What are you smiling for?”
“The only reason I caught them at the hotel was because of a letter I received as a Christmas present. And I know that Madison was the one who sent it.” I said when I placed the paper on the table and turned to face him. “She must have told him about what she did. But I don't understand why he wants me back.”
“Maybe he loves you.” Alpha Alexus said when I raised a questioning eyebrow at him.
“If he did love me, he would not have gone to Madison.” I asserted when my mind drifted off to the image of Elijah and Madison in bed, which made my heart ache. “Which room can I use, Alpha Aleuxs?” I asked him to change the topic. A lump was forming in my throat, and I know that if I stayed here a moment longer, I might break down in front of Alpha Alexus.
“Come,” he said when he got up from his place and followed him. We made our way upstairs, and he showed me to a guest bedroom. “I will ask someone to bring your bags upstairs,” he told me when I nodded my head before he left me alone.
I closed the door behind me when the first drops of tears rolled down my cheeks. I walked to the bed and took a seat as I pulled out my phone. There were a lot of missed calls and messages, mostly from Elijah and Zuri, but I ignored them and opened the news feed.
Apart from the ongoing war between the two packs, my face was all over the news channel when a particular article caught my eye. The article was published a few seconds ago when I opened it.
It was an update on my case, and it looks like the reporters were able to get hold of a few witnesses.
Rumors are spreading that Luna Antonella might not have been kidnapped after all. A staff member at the Clover hotel confirms seeing Luna running out of there in tears after midnight, and a few hours later, Alpha Alastair rushed out of the hotel furious. Could Luna have seen something that broke her heart?
My blood ran cold as I finished reading it. I don't think Elijah saw this news, but if he did, it would only end up in murder.
