Chapter 42 She is alive?

Chapter 42 She is alive?
Madison Smith - POV

“Please come in, Susan.” Elijah called out, breaking me from my trance. I quickly wiped away the stray tears and walked into his office. “You can close the door," he instructed, and I did as he asked before I walked towards his desk. “Did Riley inform you about your work?”

“No, she just told me that I have to meet you today.” I told him when I saw irritation cloud his expression.

“Fine, read this contract and sign it," he told me when he pushed a red file towards me. I took it and began reading the contract. “Do you have any questions?” Elijah asked me fifteen minutes later when I shook my head.

“Can I have a pen?” I asked him when he gave me his pen. Once I had signed the contract, I handed everything back to him. “Can I go now, Alpha Alastair?” I asked him.

“We are not done yet, Miss Susan," he told me, and right then his office doors opened, and Doctor Riley stepped inside carrying her medical bag.

“Did I keep you waiting?” she asked Eijah as she placed her bag on the coffee table and turned to face us.

“Right in time. We just finished signing the contract.” Elijah informed her when she nodded her head and turned to face me.

“You look good as new, Doctor Riley.” I commented when a soft smile appeared on her face.

“All thanks to you. Now, there is one last thing you will have to do for us before joining as my personal assistant. "Doctor Riley said as she opened her bag and took out a small vial that had a clear liquid inside. “Drink this and your initiation ceremony will be completed," she told me when a frown appeared on my face.

"Initiation ceremony?” I asked her confusedly when she nodded her head.

“You see, you walked into this pack as a rogue, and we normally never accept a rogue into our pack even though we give them work and shelter. But by drinking this potion, you will become a pack member, and it will be easy for you to work as well.” Doctor Riley explained, but deep down I knew there was no such thing as a potion.

If you want to accept someone into this pack, the alpha would hold a formal ceremony where he cuts his palm and joins hands with the new member. “I have never heard about such initiation ceremonies.” I commented when I saw her smile waver.

“This is how we accept wolves into our pack, Miss Susan.” Elijah said when I turned to face him.

“So the Alpha doesn't accept the member by joining hands?” I asked him when I saw a surprised look on his face, which he quickly masked with indifference.

“You know so much about pack life, yet you told us that you were born a rogue and you never lived in a pack before.” Elijah said with suspicion.

“I may have been born as a rogue, Alpha Alastair. But my parents were part of a pack before they left. So Mom used to tell me about how a pack functions.” I told him without a stutter when he nodded his head.

“Fair enough, but in my pack we do things a little differently. So if you want this job, you can drink that potion, or you can still walk out of my office.” He paused, waiting for his words to sink in before he continued. “But you will have to leave my pack immediately. I will not provide shelter.”

This didn't sound like an option but more like a threat. “Let's just drink it, Maddy," Freya urged me.

“But we have no idea what that is used for," I argued.

“I know, but we don't have a choice now. We need to earn Elijah’s trust if we want to rule this pack. Did you see how he treated our father despite him being an alpha?” she asked me when I got the anger bubble within me.

“Okay.” I said out loud when a relieved look appeared on Doctor Riley’s face. She handed me the vial, and without a second thought, I unscrewed the top and drank everything in one go. Despite its clear nature, the liquid was bitter, and it left a spicy aftertaste. I placed the vial on the coffee table when I felt my entire body tingle and felt a burning sensation in the inside of my right wrist.

I turned it around when I saw a small moon-shaped tattoo being formed. “What is happening?” I asked in panic when a mysterious smile appeared on Elijah’s face.

“You are under oath. From this day forward, you will never be able to speak or write about anything that you see or hear in this pack.” Elijah said in a monotone.

“Why would you do such a thing?” I asked when I turned to face Doctor Riley, but she had a pitiful look on her face.

"That's because whatever you are going to see now should never leave this pack.” Elijah said when he got up from his place.

“What would happen to me if I did?” I asked him out of curiosity when an evil smile appeared on his face.

“You will drop dead the very next second. Your blood will turn into poison and no one will be able to save you," he said when I felt my throat become dry.

“We should go and see her now, Alpha Alastair," Doctor Riley said, breaking the tense silence when Elijah nodded his head.

"Let's go," he said as he walked out of the room, followed by Doctor Riley, and I followed them. I have no idea what I was going to see right now, but whatever it is would change everything in this game. We walked into the forest and continued walking through the dense bushes for about an hour when I finally spotted a rundown cabin.

Elijah looked at me once before he walked straight towards it while Doctor Riley and I followed. As we walked in, I felt an eerie chillness fill my bones while my heart began to race. “This way, Susan," Doctor Riley said as she entered a bedroom.

I took in a deep breath and walked inside when I saw Elijah kneeling beside the bed. My eyes moved to see who it was when I felt everything around me come to a standstill while my eyes widened in horror. “How are you feeling today, Mom?”
