Chapter 41 I am alive, dad.
Madison Smith - POV

After Elijah left Doctor Riley’s room, she called me in and told me to go back to my room and come back in the morning since I will be starting my new job as her assistant. I didn't know why the woman wanted me to befriend the doctor, but I think I have no way of finding out.

I took the burner phone from my suitcase and looked at the screen again, hoping that she had called, but there was nothing. “I feel like this isn't going to end well, Madison,” Freya told me.

“We don't have a way out now, Freya.”

“Can we go out for a run?” she asked me, but I immediately shook my head. The potion can only change my human appearance, and if I shifted right now, everyone would know who I am.

“We will go to the pack town. That is all I can do right now, Freya.” I told her in an apologetic tone.

"Okay," she agreed when I grabbed my shoes and the room key and walked out. Taking a stroll in the park town felt so different from the last time I had been here. No one stopped to acknowledge me, and a few walked past me like I never existed.

“I guess being an omega isn't easy.” I told Freya when I suddenly bumped into someone and fell on the concrete floor.

“I am so sorry; I wasn't looking where I was going.” I looked up when my eyes widened in shock. It was Zuri Daniel, Antonella’s best friend. But she looked almost unrecognizable right now. Her lush black hair lay flat aging her skull while her black eyes had lost their sparks. She even looked like she had lost several pounds. “Are you hurt?” she asked me as she extended her hand to help me.

“No, I am fine.” I told her as I got up from the floor and dusted my coat.

“Are you okay?” I asked her when a bitter smile appeared on her face.

“No one has asked me that question since she left," she retorted when I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion. I know that the day Antonella went missing, Zuri was arrested for questioning, but it looks like they have broken something within me.

“Who?” I asked her, sounding clueless.

“She is my best friend, and she was the Luna of this pack as well,” Zuri told me as she let out a deep breath. “Antonella Erickson.”

“I am sorry. I did hear rumors that Luna Antonella was kidnapped from the pack.”

“She was never kidnapped.” Zuri said in a cautious tone when she quickly looked around. "Don't tell anyone that I said that," she said in panic when I nodded my head. “Silly me, I never bothered to ask your name.”

“Susan, I arrived in this pack a few days ago.” I told her.

“Welcome to the White Moon pack,” she told me.

“How do you know Luna Antonella isn't kidnapped?” I asked her hoping to find out what she knows, but when she was about to answer my question, her eyes widened in fear.

“It was nice meeting you. I will get going," she said in urgency, and before I could stop her, she rushed out of there. I turned around and that was when I saw a few warriors watching Zuri. Right then, my burner phone vibrated in my pocket, so I hurried back to my room.

I pulled it out and dialed the number again when the woman answered the call on the second ring. “Did you meet the doctor?”

“Yes, and she has asked me to be her assistant. Which is a little strange since I have no knowledge of being a nurse," I told her.

“Just go with the flow.”

“Why did you want me to become her assistant? How is this going to help me control Elijah?”

“All I know is that Alpha Alastair is hiding something or someone in a cabin located deep within the forest, and only Doctor Riley and her nurse go to that place every day. Just find out what he is hiding, and then I will tell you what should be done next," the woman instructed.

“Elijah wants me to meet him in the room to sign a contract or something in order to work for Dr. Riley. What should I do?” I asked her when the line became quiet for a few minutes.

“Go with the flow and tell me everything that happened in the meeting when we meet in three days,” she told me.

“Okay.” I told her when the line disconnected, and right then I heard a knock on the door. I quickly put the phone back inside my suitcase and opened the door to see a warrior standing outside.

“Alpha Elijah will meet you in his office in the morning at ten am,” he told me, and without a word, he walked away. I closed the door and locked it before I made my way to my bed.

Sleep was the last thing that was on my mind when I finally woke up at eight am and quickly got dressed and made my way to the packhouse. “What are you doing here?” a warrior asked me as he stopped me near the entrance.

“Alpha Alastair has asked me to see him today.” I told him.

“Are you Susan?” he asked me when I nodded my head.

“This way," he told me as he led me down the familiar hallway when we came to a stop in front of his office. “Wait here," he told me before he walked away. The office door was left slightly ajar when I heard Elijah’s irritated voice.

“I told you, we're still looking for her!” he snapped.

“That is what you have been saying for the past few weeks, Elijah. Mark my words, if you don't find my daughter within a week, I will go straight to the werewolf council to lodge a complaint." My heart nearly stopped when I heard my father’s voice while my eyes began to water.

The office door was roughly pulled open, and he stepped out. My throat tightened while I stared at him when he looked at me for a brief moment before marching out. Despite standing in front of him, I couldn't even go and tell him that I am okay and that I am alive.
