Chapter 11 A black wolf
Antonella Erickson - POV
I woke up way before sunrise and blankly stared at the dark walls. My head was pounding from lack of sleep while my eyes were puffy and painful. "What's wrong with you, Lia?” I grumbled at my wolf who continued pacing back and forth in my head.
“We need mate, Antonella," she whined when I rolled my eyes at her.
“You know we can't go back to Elijah.” I told her when she shook her head.
“Elijah isn't our mate anymore, Antonella.” She said something that made my blood boil in anger. We have been mated to Elijah for three years, and in these three years Lia has never shown much interest in our mate bond even though we felt the sparks.
“This mate bond is just an illusion.” I retorted in anger when she rolled her eyes at me.
“But I feel like it's something more,” she argued.
"It's the magic that is making you feel this way.” I told her when she pulled up the barrier between us. I let out a sigh and pushed the covers off my body and got up. The house was still quiet as I walked to the window and looked out. There was not a soul in sight when a smile appeared on my face.
This is the perfect opportunity for me to explore the pack before it gets crowded.
I walked into the closet and grabbed my suitcase, which was on the floor, and pulled out my training shoes and a pair of sports bras and spandex shorts and made my way to the bathroom. After taking a shower I quickly changed into my clothes and walked out of the bathroom.
After wearing my shoes, I got up from the chair, and I walked towards the door when I came to a screeching halt. I turned around and stared at my reflection. My hair was back to its rich brown color, and one of my eye colors had changed as well.
I walked to the dressing table and took out a vial of the concealment potion and drank it in one go. Just like the first time, the potion was bitter and tasted like dirt as I scrunched my face, but then I felt it taking its effect.
I walked back to the mirror when I saw that my disguise was back on. “This looks better.” I muttered to myself as I walked out of my room. As I reached the landing, I took one glance at the clock, which read that it was five am, before I walked out of the house.
Back in Elijah’s pack I have always loved going on my morning runs, but that was soon stopped when the attack on the pack increased. The smell of fresh air and flowers was like a balm to my lung as I continued jogging and soon entered the forest.
It was peaceful, and there wasn't anyone around as I followed the path in the forest. I didn't know how long I was joking, but the atmosphere began to change, and the trees began to thin out while the night sky began to brighten up.
My lungs were burning from the lack of oxygen, but I kept pushing myself. Alpha Alexus’s pack was large, and it was beautiful as I looked around. I broke my run into a jog when I began hearing a lot of voices in the distance.
The pack training grounds must be close.
I looked around the forest and realized that I must have come a long way from home. I was about to turn around and run back in the direction I came when I heard a crunch. My heart skipped a beat while my eyes scanned the surroundings.
“Who’s there?” I called out, but I didn't get a response. I took a cautious step back when I heard another crunch from my right. I quickly turned, and that was where I saw it. It was a massive black wolf. It looked almost like an alpha wolf, but something deep within me told me that it wasn't Alpha Alexus, and it was definitely not Elijah as well.
The wolf looked like it was glaring at me, and without my knowledge, I took a step forward and another while the wolf stood there. “Luna Evangeline?” I stopped and immediately turned around when I saw Beta Murphy standing behind me with a confused look on his face.
He was in his workout clothes as sweat dropped down his face. “What are you doing here alone?”
“I came for a jog,” I told him.
"Didn't Maximus come with you?”
“I didn't want to disturb him.”
“Oh, do you want to come and take a look at the training grounds?” he asked me.
“I think I will head back home, Beta Murphy. But thank you for the offer.” I politely declined.
“I insist, Luna Evangeline. The training grounds aren't far from here. Moreover, the pack members would be delighted to see their Luna as well.” He urged, and I know I cannot decline anymore.
“Sure, lead the way.” I told him when he nodded his head.
“What are you looking for?” Beta Murphy asked me five minutes later when I kept looking deep into the forest.
“Nothing. I was just wondering if I could spot Alpha Alexus’s wolf somewhere.” I lied when he raised a questioning eyebrow at me.
“Alpha Alexus? Isn't he your mate, Luna Evangeline?” he asked me with suspicion when my heart skipped a beat.
“I am still getting used to this 'mate' thing," I quickly answered.
“I think I get you. Anyway, you would have been able to easily spot Maximus’s wolf," he pointed out.
“Is he black?”
“No, he is a mix of brown and black. Moreover, there are no black wolves, Luna Evangeline.” Beta Murphy said when I came to a stop.
“There are no black wolves? But I...” I trailed off while my mind drifted off to a particular black wolf whom I spotted a few minutes ago.
“Those are just myths, Luna Evangeline.”
