Chapter 169 Chapter 169

Amelia POV

"Let's make peace. Forget the past, forget all your hatred toward me. Let's make peace with the past for the next year," Kai said, expressing what he wanted.

"I'll make up for all the mistakes I've made to you," he added in a convincing tone.

My heart immediately burned with anger at his request.
He wanted me to forget everything.

"Why should I forget everything?" I demanded. "For Tania's sake? Do you want to atone for Tania's sins?"

I was truly hurt hearing what he wanted.

"That's not what I mean, Melia," Kai quickly denied. "I just don't want----"

"You don't want me to hurt your lover?" I cut him off. "You don't need to atone for your sins. And you don't need to worry. I won't lay a finger on your beloved lover." I stood up and walked away from him.

That familiar tightness in my chest returned.
Every time I remembered that incident, the same suffocating pain always came back.

As I entered the living room, I heard Kai's footsteps chasing after me.

"Melia, listen to me first!" His voice echoed from behind, but I completely ignored it.

I ran up the stairs to avoid him.

"Stop! Don't run on the stairs!" His shout grew closer as he followed me.

Just as I was about to enter the bedroom, Kai suddenly grabbed my arm.

"Let go!" I snapped, violently shaking his hand off.

"I swear to God, I never meant what you're thinking, Melia!" he said loudly. "I just don't want you to keep getting hurt because of that incident. I don't want you to keep carrying hatred and resentment." His words only disgusted me even more.

"Stop pretending to be kind and caring toward me. I know what you really want," I said, struggling to keep myself from shouting.

"I'm sincere with you, Amelia. Forget everything. Stop holding on to hatred."

"Never." I shook my head firmly. "I will never forget my child."

The tears I had been holding back finally spilled uncontrollably down my cheeks. "And I will never stop hating the person who killed my baby."
My voice trembled violently.

"I lost my baby. My marriage was destroyed. How can I possibly forget that? Tell me! How am I supposed to do that?" I shouted.

"Tell me who killed our baby! Who?!" Kai shouted back, gripping both my shoulders.

"Tania!" I screamed in response. Kai's jaw immediately tightened. His gaze turned cold and sharp.

"Say that again." His voice was low, but filled with terrifying rage.

Maybe he couldn't accept that I was accusing his lover.
But this time, I wouldn't stay silent.
I didn't care if he got angry at me the way he once got angry at Ezra.

With every ounce of courage I had left, I returned his stare with pure hatred.

"Tania. Your lover pulled me and made me fall down the stairs." I spoke slowly, making sure every word was crystal clear.

Kai staggered backward. His face turned red, and his jaw clenched tightly. Those eyes stared at me without blinking.

"Don't believe me?" I sneered.

"Idiot!" Kai's roar thundered through the entire house. His face looked terrifying.

I flinched at his shout. Fear slowly crept into my chest. Was I wrong for telling the truth?
Did he love Tania so much that hearing this made him this angry?

BAM!
BAM!
CRASH!

Kai punched and kicked the bedroom door brutally.
"Ahh...!"

I screamed in fear as I watched him lose control.
He looked like a man possessed.

Shouting, kicking, and smashing anything around him. "Ahhh... you're lying! Why? Why?!"

I was genuinely terrified. Maybe Kai would hit me.
Instinctively, I stepped back several paces when he looked at me again.

"Why are you only telling me this now? Do you want to torture me, huh?!"

I couldn't understand the look in his eyes.
There was anger. There was pain. There was something I couldn't comprehend.

Kai took another step closer.

Terrified, I immediately ran toward his study and locked the door from the inside.

"Stop running from me! How long are you going to keep avoiding me?!" His voice thundered from outside.

"OPEN THE DOOR, AMELIA! OPEN IT, AMELIA!"
Kai kept pounding on the study door relentlessly.
With trembling hands and legs, I tried to hold the door shut even though I knew it was useless.

"Oh God... what do I do? Please help Your servant..."

I whispered softly as I prayed.
Afraid.

I was truly afraid seeing Kai lose control like this.
It was the first time in my life I had ever seen him this angry.

In the past, I had almost never seen him angry.
He was always patient and quiet.

When he was upset, he usually chose silence.
Maybe I shouldn't have let my emotions take over and revealed everything.

Back then, Kai hadn't even believed his own brother.
How could he possibly believe me?

Someone who meant absolutely nothing to him.
A sharp ache spread through my chest at that thought.

But it was the truth. And I had to accept it.

"Amelia, open the door!" Kai continued pounding from outside.

"Amelia, you can't do this to me! You should have told me the truth from the beginning!" His voice sounded desperate.

"I told you at Uncle Jordan's house! But you didn't believe me!" I shouted back through the door.
My hands and legs were still shaking violently.

I was truly terrified.

"You should have told me after it happened! Before you left!" he demanded angrily. "Do you want to torture me with guilt?!"

"Would you have believed me if I had told you? You even fought with Ezra because of your lover!" I shot back, equally furious.

"ENOUGH!" He roared while slamming his fist against the door.

"AHHHHH!"

Another furious shout echoed outside, followed by the sound of things being thrown and broken.

My body slowly slid down to the floor.
Tears flooded my face. The tightness in my chest returned. Stronger than before. I closed my eyes.
Took a deep breath. Then slowly let it out.

I repeated it over and over, trying to calm myself before I completely lost control.

"I have to stay calm. I have to stay calm."
