Chapter 160 Chapter 161
Chapter 160 Chapter 161
Kai POV
“Amelia!!”
My heart felt like it stopped beating the moment I saw Amelia’s body lying on the restroom floor, her clothes already stained with blood.
Her face was pale. Her lips had lost all color. One of her hands lay limply beside her body.
“No… don’t do this to me…” My voice trembled in panic.
With shaking hands, I gently patted her cheeks.
“Amelia… wake up…”
No response.
Fear instantly filled my chest, a fear I had never experienced before. A fear so overwhelming it made it hard for me to breathe.
God…
Please don’t let anything happen to her.
I would never be able to forgive myself if something happened to Amelia.
“Amelia, wake up, sweetheart…” I called again, my voice growing hoarse.
Without wasting another second, I immediately lifted her into my arms and ran out of the restroom toward the emergency room.
People turned to stare at us, but I didn’t care.
“Doctor! Please help my wife!”
I carefully laid Amelia down on a hospital bed in panic.
A doctor and two nurses quickly rushed over and immediately began examining her condition.
“Nurse, check her blood pressure!”
“Start an IV immediately!”
I stood several steps away because one of the nurses told me not to get too close so they could work freely.
And for the first time in my life…
I truly felt powerless. My hands were cold. My mind was consumed by fear.
My eyes never left Amelia’s face as she lay weakly on the hospital bed.
I didn’t know how long I stood there like a fool, silently praying over and over for Amelia to open her eyes.
“Your wife is fine now.”
I immediately turned toward the doctor who had just finished examining Amelia.
“The wound on her wrist isn’t too serious,” the doctor continued. “But your wife’s blood pressure is extremely low, and her body is dehydrated. It seems she hasn’t eaten properly since yesterday.”
I immediately let out the long breath I had been holding.
“Thank God…”
It felt as though I had just been given another chance to live.
The doctor smiled faintly at my reaction.
“From now on, please pay closer attention to her meal schedule. Don’t let her skip meals, especially not entirely.”
“Yes, Doctor,” I answered quickly. “I’ll make sure of it. Thank you, Doctor.”
“Once the IV is finished, the patient may go home,” the doctor said before leaving.
“Yes, Doctor. Thank you.”
I sat back down beside Amelia’s bed after the doctor and nurses left the room.
Almost an hour had passed. But Amelia still hadn’t woken up.
Earlier, one of the nurses said Amelia would probably wake up within thirty minutes. But now, I had already asked the same question three times.
“When will my wife wake up?”
I rubbed my face roughly before staring at Amelia, who still had her eyes closed.
She looked exhausted.
And for the first time, I truly realized…
I had hurt her far too much.
I carefully held her hand, making sure not to touch the IV tube attached to the back of it.
“From now on, I’ll grant every wish you have,” I murmured softly.
I stared at her face for a long time.
“If you only want to give us one year together… then I’ll accept it.”
My hand slowly brushed against her cheek before fixing her slightly messy hair.
“I’ll make you forgive me within one year.”
I smiled bitterly.
“I’ll make you fall in love with me again.”
Slowly, I pressed a kiss against the back of her hand.
And a few seconds later…
Amelia’s eyelids fluttered slightly.
“You’re awake?” I asked quickly.
Amelia slowly opened her eyes and looked at me blankly, without expression.
That gaze felt cold.
Empty.
But I still felt relieved seeing her awake.
“Should I tell Felix?” I asked while showing her my phone screen, which had been displaying incoming calls from Felix nonstop.
“He’s been calling over and over.”
Amelia immediately shook her head weakly.
“Don’t…” she whispered softly.
I nodded in understanding.
“Okay.”
Finally, I answered Felix’s call.
📞
“Hello, Felix,” I greeted.
“Is Amelia still with you?” Felix asked from the other side.
I glanced at Amelia, who kept shaking her head slightly, silently begging me not to tell him what had really happened.
“She has a headache,” I finally answered. “I brought her home.”
I had no choice but to lie.
“Is she sick? I want to talk to her.”
“She’s asleep right now. Once she wakes up, I’ll tell her to call you.”
“Alright then,” Felix replied. “Uncle Harri has also been moved to a regular hospital room.”
“I’ll send someone to replace you at the hospital,” I said. “You should go home. Tell Ezra to go home too.”
“Alright. Once the person you send arrives, Ezra and I will head home.”
The call ended.
I let out a long sigh before sitting back down beside Amelia’s bed.
But Amelia turned her face away again.
As if she didn’t want to look at me for too long.
•••
The next morning.
“Amelia…”
I knocked softly on the bedroom door.
“Are you awake yet?”
“Just a second,” she answered from inside.
Last night, after her IV was finished, I immediately brought her home as the doctor advised.
A few seconds later, the bedroom door opened.
“What is it?” she asked flatly.
“I need to change clothes,” I answered while tugging lightly at the shirt I was wearing as a gesture.
Amelia gave a small nod and moved aside, allowing me to enter the room.
I walked toward the walk-in closet while Amelia stood quietly near the balcony.
When I came out after changing clothes, Amelia suddenly spoke.
“I think it would be better if I moved to another room.”
I immediately looked at her.
“Can’t we stay in the same room?”
Amelia fell silent.
“We only have one year together,” I continued softly. “Just like you wanted. So grant me this wish too.”
I looked at her seriously.
“We’ll share a room, even if we don’t share the same bed.”
Amelia still remained silent.
“I’ll sleep on the sofa,” I added. “You sleep on the bed. How about that?”
For a few moments, she seemed to think about it before finally giving a small nod.
“Hm… alright.”
Instantly, my chest felt slightly lighter.
“Thank you,” I said sincerely.
Amelia didn’t answer.
“Your phone…” I said hesitantly.
Amelia immediately turned to me.
“Sorry,” I continued softly. “I dropped it. A new phone will be delivered for you this afternoon.”
Amelia immediately pouted.
“How did it fall?”
I almost smiled seeing her expression.
It had been so long since I’d seen her sulk like that.
“Sorry,” I answered simply. “I’ll replace it.”
“You definitely smashed it on purpose,” she accused while narrowing her eyes.
I didn’t deny it.
Because it was true.
Last night, I lost control after reading Amelia’s chat history with Ryan.
And ever since then, one question had continued bothering me.
“Do you like Ryan?”
Finally, the question slipped out.
Amelia stared at me for a few moments before answering.
“Ryan and I are close friends. Just like Rania and Mike.”
For some reason, that answer eased my heart slightly.
“But it seems like Ryan loves you,” I probed further.
“Yes,” Amelia answered without hesitation.
Instantly, heat filled my chest again.
I hated hearing that another man loved my wife.
“Ryan, Mike, and Rania…” Amelia’s voice softened, “they are people who care about and love me without any reason.”
Her gaze drifted far outside the window.
And once again, I saw the pain in her eyes. Pain I had probably ignored for far too long.
I stayed silent for quite some time before remembering another name.
“What about Lucas?” I asked again. “Who is he?”
Amelia frowned in confusion.
“He called your phone last night,” I explained.
“Oh…” Amelia gave a small nod. “He was my senior back in school.”
“Did you tell him we were divorced?” I asked with slight irritation.
“No,” she answered firmly while looking at me.
“Then how does he know about our problems?”
Amelia seemed to think for a moment.
“Maybe from Gerald,” she finally answered. “He’s Gerald’s classmate.”
Without realizing it, I immediately let out a sigh of relief.
Thank God.
“Alright,” I finally said while standing up. “Have breakfast in your room. No need to go downstairs. I’ll ask the maid to bring your food here.”
Amelia only nodded.
“After that, take your medicine and rest.”
“Hm.”
I walked toward the bedroom door.
But before leaving, I turned back to look at her once more.
“Don’t leave the house before I come home,” I reminded her firmly. “This evening, we’ll visit your father.”
The room instantly fell silent for a few seconds.
Then Amelia slowly looked at me.
“Will you force me,” she asked quietly, “if I say I don’t want to go?”
