Chapter 159 Chapter 159
Chapter 159 Chapter 159
Amelia stepped out of the ICU room slowly. Her face looked pale after hearing her father’s request, a request that felt like it had shattered the last bit of strength left inside her. Her chest felt tight, but she forced herself to remain standing tall.
She walked toward Felix, who had been waiting anxiously the entire time.
“Please wait here until I come back,” she said softly.
Felix immediately looked at her intently.
“Where are you going?”
“To talk to Kai.”
After that, Amelia shifted her gaze to Ryan, who was standing beside Felix. Worry had been written all over his face from the beginning.
“Go home,” Amelia said quietly. “Mommy Julie must be worried. Once everything is over, I’ll call you.”
Ryan looked like he wanted to argue, but he held himself back. His jaw tightened as he suppressed his emotions.
“If he hurts you again, call me,” Ryan said firmly.
Amelia only gave a small nod.
Not long after, she asked Kai to speak with her privately. Without saying much, Kai immediately walked toward the hospital cafeteria, with Amelia following behind him.
The cafeteria was fairly quiet since evening was approaching. White lights reflected dimly against the tiled floor, while the scent of coffee and hospital food blended together in the air.
Kai sat in one of the corner seats of the cafeteria, while Amelia sat across from him with an expressionless face.
Several seconds passed in silence.
“Speak,” Kai finally said when he noticed Amelia had remained silent since they sat down.
Amelia stared at the table for a moment before finally speaking softly.
“What do you want?”
Kai frowned. “Is that how you talk to me?”
Amelia raised her head. Her gaze was cold and empty.
“Tell me what you want.”
Her flat tone, devoid of emotion, only made Kai’s chest burn with irritation.
“I want us to get back together,” Kai answered bluntly.
Amelia smiled faintly. A smile completely devoid of happiness.
“Would one year be enough?”
“What do you mean?” Kai’s frown deepened.
“I don’t know why you want us back together,”
Amelia said calmly. “But like I told you before… our relationship is already shattered, just like the plates and glasses I broke that morning. Once something is broken, it can never truly be fixed again.”
Kai stared sharply at Amelia. His jaw tightened hearing her words.
“So that’s how you see it?”
“Yes.”
That short answer felt like a knife stabbing straight into Kai’s pride.
“Then let ADIJAYA Food collapse just like our relationship,” Kai said coldly.
Amelia immediately glared at him.
“Why are you dragging so many people into this? What about all the employees working there?” she snapped in disbelief.
“You care about other people,” Kai scoffed angrily. “But ignore your own husband.”
Amelia let out a quiet laugh. A bitter laugh that sounded painfully hollow.
“And have you ever cared about my feelings?” she shot back sharply. “No! Even when I fell down the stairs four years ago, you ignored me.”
Instantly, Kai’s expression changed. Guilt crept into his heart.
“If you had any conscience at all, you should be ashamed to even face me. Let alone say those words,” Amelia added while looking away.
Her chest tightened again as the memory resurfaced.
So vivid. So painful.
Flashback On
“Keysa!” Ezra shouted when he saw Amelia lying on the floor, clutching her stomach with a pale face.
Kai and Ezra immediately ran toward the living room of their house.
“What happened to you?” Ezra asked in panic. He was the first to reach her and immediately knelt beside Amelia.
“Miss Amelia fell down the stairs,” Carlota answered trembling as she supported Amelia’s body.
Ezra’s gaze immediately sharpened toward Tania, who was standing in the middle of the staircase.
“Bastard!” he cursed furiously.
With quick steps, Ezra stormed upstairs and roughly dragged Tania down.
“How dare you hurt her!” Ezra choked Tania’s neck, his emotions exploding uncontrollably.
Kai, panicking, immediately grabbed Ezra’s arm.
“Ezra, have you lost your mind?! Let her go!” Kai shouted as he tried to pull Ezra away.
Because he was too panicked worrying about Tania, Kai completely failed to notice Amelia still sitting weakly on the floor, trembling in pain.
That was the moment Amelia’s heart shattered.
The worry in Kai’s eyes for Tania destroyed her heart completely, burying every bit of love she once had for him.
And at that moment, Amelia realized something.
She would never be able to enter Kai’s heart.
Because Tania had already become the queen who ruled it.
Flashback Off
Amelia took a deep breath.
Even though the incident had happened four years ago, the pain still felt painfully real. Not even slightly diminished.
Never expect anything from someone who hasn’t let go of their past. No matter how hard you try, disappointment is all you’ll get in the end, Amelia thought bitterly.
“Stop dwelling on the past.”
Kai’s firm voice pulled Amelia out of her thoughts.
“It’s easy for you to say that when you’re not the one who experienced it,” Amelia sneered coldly.
Kai looked away. For the first time, he found himself unable to respond to Amelia’s words. Or to the wounded look in her eyes.
Silence filled the space between them for several moments.
Until finally, Amelia spoke again.
“Fine. One year. After that, leave ADIJAYA alone.”
Kai immediately turned to her.
“I’m the one who decides that, not you,” he rejected coldly. “What belongs to me will never belong to anyone else.”
Amelia’s expression changed.
Slowly, she picked up the glass sitting on the table.
Then—
Crash!
She threw the glass onto the floor until it shattered into countless pieces.
Kai frowned in confusion.
“What are you doing?”
Without hesitation, Amelia picked up one of the shards and slashed it across her own wrist.
“Damn it!” Kai shot to his feet immediately.
Amelia quickly shoved the table away when Kai tried to grab her hand.
“Enough! Don’t be crazy!” Kai snapped in complete panic.
Blood began flowing from Amelia’s wrist.
But instead, the woman laughed bitterly.
“If I die, no one will own me,” she whispered painfully. “Satisfied now?”
After saying that, Amelia walked out of the cafeteria.
Fortunately, the hospital had started to quiet down, so not many people noticed them.
Amelia pressed against her wrist to stop the blood from dripping onto the floor.
Kai immediately chased after her and grabbed her arm.
“We’re going to the ER right now!”
Amelia struggled violently.
She even raised the shard of glass toward her own neck.
Kai quickly grabbed her hand.
“Enough!” he hissed, trying hard to keep his emotions under control so they wouldn’t attract attention.
His eyes were filled with panic.
For the first time, Kai was truly afraid of losing Amelia.
“Fine. One year,” Kai finally gave in with a heavy breath.
He surrendered. He never expected Amelia would actually go this far.
“Let’s go to the ER now,” he said again, this time much gentler.
“I can go by myself.”
Amelia still tried to pull away.
“Okay… okay…” Kai finally released her helplessly because he didn’t want Amelia to become even more hysterical and lose more blood.
But instead of heading toward the ER, Amelia walked into the women’s restroom.
The moment the door closed, her body collapsed onto the floor.
Her sobs finally broke free.
All the pain she had been holding back spilled out at once.
Her chest felt suffocated. Her heart felt shattered.
Her father was selfish. Kai was selfish too.
“I won’t let what belongs to me belong to someone else,” he had said.
But what about her feelings back then?
Had Kai ever thought about how much it hurt when he chose Tania over her?
Amelia weakly hit her own chest.
Her breathing became heavy.
Her head spun.
Her vision slowly blurred.
She didn’t know how long she cried there.
Until eventually, her body lost all strength.
Thud…
Amelia’s body collapsed onto the restroom floor.
Meanwhile, Kai stood not far from the women’s restroom, feeling restless. His eyes had been fixed on the restroom entrance the entire time.
He waited for Amelia to come out.
But she never appeared.
An uneasy feeling slowly gnawed at his chest.
After letting go of Amelia earlier, he had secretly followed her from behind. And now, his patience had run out.
Kai stepped into the women’s restroom, ignoring the people cursing at him.
“Amelia!” he called out while banging on several closed stall doors.
No answer.
Thump!
Kai’s heart pounded violently.
He kicked open one of the stalls that remained silent after he knocked.
BANG!
And the moment the door opened, Kai froze.
Amelia’s body was lying on the floor, her clothes stained with blood.
“AMELIA!!” Kai screamed in panic.
