Chapter 156 Chapter 156
Chapter 156 Chapter 156
Author’s POV
This morning, Amelia and Kai had breakfast in a much calmer atmosphere compared to the previous days.
There were no raised voices. No shattered plates. No long arguments draining their emotions.
Amelia sat quietly in her chair, eating her breakfast in silence. Her face remained blank and expressionless. Even when Kai informed her that all of her belongings from the apartment would arrive later that afternoon, Amelia showed no reaction at all.
No anger. No protest. No resistance.
“Your things will be delivered here today,” Kai said while sipping his black coffee.
Amelia stayed silent. Kai glanced at her again.
“Your final salary and severance pay will also be transferred next month.”
Still no response.
The woman simply chewed her food slowly as if she had no interest in anything Kai was saying.
That was exactly what made Kai feel uneasy.
Suspicious.
His sharp gaze remained fixed on Amelia, who had been acting far too calm since earlier.
Why is she being so quiet?
Why isn’t she angry at all after finding out she no longer has a job?
What exactly is she planning? Kai wondered anxiously.
But Amelia remained completely unfazed. Once she finished eating, she immediately stood up and walked toward the second floor without saying a single word.
Kai watched her until her fragile figure disappeared behind the staircase.
Then he shrugged lightly.
“Maybe she’s finally tired of fighting with me all the time,” he muttered.
Besides, Kai knew Amelia’s personality well enough.
Whenever she was truly angry or disappointed, she would become extremely cold and indifferent. Sometimes she even acted like they were complete strangers.
Because of that, Kai chose not to think too much about it. After breakfast, he prepared to leave for work.
But before leaving, he gave Luke a warning.
“Keep an eye on my wife,” Kai said seriously. “If anything happens, call me immediately.”
“Yes, Sir,” Luke answered obediently.
Kai finally left the house.

Around eight-thirty in the morning, Amelia came downstairs and approached Luke, who was tidying up the kitchen.
“Luke...” Amelia called softly.
“Yes, Miss Amelia?”
“Could you buy some painkillers at the pharmacy for me?” Amelia asked while holding her stomach and wincing slightly. “I’m on my period, and it really hurts.”
Luke immediately looked worried.
“There’s medicine in the first aid box. I’ll get it for you.”
Amelia quickly shook her head.
“No. The medicine is different. The one I usually take isn’t there.”
She then handed Luke some cash along with a small piece of paper containing the medicine’s name.
“Please...” she pleaded pitifully.
Luke immediately nodded.
“Yes, Miss Amelia. I’ll go now.”
“Ask Mr. Benyamin to drive you there so it’ll be faster,” Amelia added.
There were indeed two security guards stationed at the house: Mr. Benyamin and Mr. Tony.
And without anyone realizing it, Amelia had intentionally arranged for one of the guards to leave with Luke.
So the house would be quieter.
So escaping would become easier.
Exactly at nine o’clock, Amelia walked out of the house and sat on the terrace chair. Her face looked calm even though her heart was pounding violently.
A few minutes later, a motorcycle stopped in front of the gate.
A package courier was talking to Mr. Tony.
“Sir! That’s my package!” Amelia shouted from the terrace.
Mr. Tony immediately opened the gate and helped carry the large box inside.
“Please help bring it to my room,” Amelia requested.
The large box was neatly wrapped in light blue paper.
The moment it reached the terrace, Amelia briefly glanced at the courier. And the man responded with a subtle nod.
The courier was Mike.
“Sir, please put it in my room,” Amelia said again. “I need to use the bathroom first. My stomach hurts.”
That sentence was actually a code telling Mike to stall for time.
The moment Mr. Tony lifted the box and headed upstairs, Amelia moved quickly.
She rushed toward the kitchen first to make sure the situation was safe. Then she immediately ran out and shut the living room door.
Bang!
Amelia sprinted toward the front gate.
But suddenly, her steps stopped.
“Damn it...” she muttered in frustration.
Mr. Tony had apparently been careful enough to lock the gate before carrying out Amelia’s request.
Amelia immediately dragged a chair near the gate. Panicking, she climbed the tall gate using the chair for support. Her heart pounded wildly the entire time.
“Amelia, be careful!” Rania’s voice called from outside the fence. The girl was already waiting with the motorcycle running in front of the house.
Rania quickly moved the motorcycle closer to the gate so Amelia could use it as a foothold.
The moment Amelia successfully climbed down, she immediately got onto the motorcycle.
“Hurry up and put on your helmet!” Rania ordered hastily.
“What about Mike? Are we just leaving him behind?” Amelia asked worriedly.
Rania chuckled lightly while starting the motorcycle.
“That’s Mike’s motorcycle. Relax.”
“But---”
“He’s trained for this already,” Rania interrupted casually.
The motorcycle immediately sped away from Kai’s residential area, putting as much distance as possible between Amelia and that house.
Meanwhile, inside the house, after placing the box in Amelia’s room, Mike excused himself like a normal courier.
He deliberately made small talk with Mr. Tony long enough to distract him.
And it worked.
Mr. Tony never realized that Amelia had already escaped.
•••
Ten o’clock in the morning.
Kai, who had been at the office since earlier, finally decided to go home. For some reason, his mind had felt restless all morning.
Amelia’s overly quiet behavior kept bothering him.
And it reminded him of what happened four years ago, when Amelia suddenly disappeared from his life.
The moment his car stopped in front of the house, Kai immediately got out in a hurry.
“Amelia!” he called while running into the house.
“Luke!! Amelia!”
The house felt far too quiet.
Mr. Tony, hearing Kai’s voice, immediately ran inside.
“I’m sorry, Sir,” the security guard said nervously. “Luke went out to buy medicine at the pharmacy.”
Kai instantly turned toward him sharply.
“Where is my wife?”
“Maybe in her room, Sir,” Mr. Tony answered quickly. “She said her stomach hurt because she’s on her period.”
Kai did not wait any longer.
He immediately ran upstairs toward Amelia’s room.
“Amelia!” he shouted while roughly pushing the bedroom door open.
But...
The room was empty. Kai rushed to check the bathroom. Then the walk-in closet.
But no one was there. Amelia had disappeared.
Kai’s gaze immediately landed on a large box beside the bed. A box wrapped in light blue paper.
His chest tightened instantly. Realizing something, Kai hurriedly searched every corner of the room again.
But the result remained the same.
“Damn it!!”
Kai’s roar echoed throughout the room.
Overflowing with rage, he kicked the large box violently until it flew across the room.
“Idiot!” he snarled in frustration. “How did I let this happen again?!”
Kai immediately ran downstairs when he heard the sound of a motorcycle stopping outside the house.
Luke had just returned with Mr. Benyamin.
“Luke, where have you been?” Kai demanded, his face red with fury.
Seeing his employer’s enraged expression, Luke instantly turned pale.
“Miss Amelia asked me to buy medicine, Sir,” he answered shakily. “The motorcycle tire went flat, so it took longer.”
“Why did you leave Amelia alone?!” Kai shouted angrily.
All three employees immediately lowered their heads in fear.
“Didn’t I already tell all of you to keep an eye on her?!”
Kai’s voice thundered throughout the entire house.
“Find her now!!”
