Chapter 155: Chapter 155
Author’s POV
The next day.
At five in the morning, Amelia woke from her sleep. Her eyes stared at the ceiling for a moment before slowly looking around the room.
The luxurious bedroom decorated in white and light blue still looked exactly the same as last night.
Silent and unfamiliar. And suffocating.
Amelia let out a long sigh as full awareness returned to her.
“So it wasn’t a dream...” she murmured softly.
She slowly got out of bed and walked toward the bathroom.
About five minutes later, Amelia came out of the bathroom looking slightly fresher. After that, she opened the balcony door and stood staring outside. Her hands clasped together as she closed her eyes, offering up prayers.
Pouring out her wishes and hopes.
In the silence of the morning, Amelia surrendered herself to every destiny God had written for her life.
She lowered her head for a long time, repeating her prayers over and over again, hoping God would hear and grant all her wishes.
She also prayed for patience to remain firmly rooted in her heart and soul.
Praying that all the hardships she was facing now would eventually lead to a good ending.
Soft whispers of prayer flowed from her lips.
Gentle and sorrowful.
Without realizing it, tears began to fall down her cheeks. Drop after drop accompanied every trembling prayer that left her lips.
“Forgive me for all my sins... God...” Amelia whispered between her sobs.
“Bless me with patience through every hardship. Make me someone who always surrenders myself to You.”
Her cries grew deeper.
“Oh God... please let goodness be the ending of all this.”
Amelia squeezed her eyes shut tightly.
“There is no power greater than Yours. You are the best of planners. Nothing is better than what You have decreed.”
“Aamiin...”
She gently wiped her face after finishing her prayer.
Just as Amelia finished, a knocking sound came from the bedroom door.
Knock... knock... knock...
“Amelia. Open the door! My clothes are inside.” Kai’s voice sounded from behind the door.
Amelia fell silent for a moment before finally walking over and opening the door.
The moment the door opened, Amelia immediately stepped back several paces to keep her distance from Kai.
The man briefly observed Amelia’s movement before finally speaking softly.
“I just want to change my clothes.”
Kai’s gaze landed on Amelia’s swollen eyes. He knew she had been crying. He looked away for a second before looking back at her face.
“Come downstairs,” he said flatly. “The maid already prepared breakfast.”
Without responding at all, Amelia walked out of the room, passing by Kai just like that.
•••
When Kai came downstairs, Amelia was already sitting calmly at the dining table. The woman was spreading chocolate jam onto slices of bread with a blank expression.
Kai pulled out the chair across from her and sat down.
“Today I’m sending someone to collect all your belongings,” he suddenly said.
Amelia remained silent.
“At the same time, they’ll handle your resignation from work.”
Amelia’s hand paused briefly.
But she still said nothing. Even though inside, anger was boiling fiercely.
What right did Kai have to control her life?
He had already ruined everything... and now he wanted to take away her job too?
Even though she had earned that job through hardship.
Through struggle and tears.
“Don’t just eat bread,” Kai spoke again.
The man suddenly took Amelia’s plate containing the plain bread.
“Eat the tuna sandwich instead,” he continued while replacing her plate with a plate of sandwiches and vegetable salad. “You’re too skinny.”
Silence.
Amelia slowly stood up from her seat. Her gaze fixed directly on Kai.
Then...
Calmly, she picked up the plate containing the sandwich he had given her.
And within seconds....
Crash!
She dropped the plate straight onto the floor. The sound of shattered porcelain echoed throughout the dining room.
“Amelia!!” Kai immediately stood up. “What are you doing?!” he growled, struggling to hold back his anger.
But Amelia only looked at him coldly and expressionlessly. One side of her eyebrow lifted slightly, as if challenging him.
Then without hesitation, Amelia grabbed the glass of orange juice on the table.
And dropped it right over the shattered plate.
Crash!
The juice spilled all over the floor.
“Amelia, enough!!” Kai snapped.
His jaw tightened hard, trying to restrain himself from yelling at her again like yesterday.
“Yes, enough!” Amelia answered calmly. Her eyes stared straight into Kai’s.
“Our relationship was destroyed four years ago.”
Amelia’s voice trembled more and more.
“So let it end here.”
Then with heavy emphasis, she said,
“STOP RUINING MY LIFE!”
The room suddenly fell silent.
Kai stared at Amelia for quite a while before finally trying to speak.
“I’ll fix everything. I know I----”
“For what?” Amelia cut him off quickly. Her gaze turned full of disappointment.
“For that company? Why are you so greedy?” she asked, her voice beginning to rise. “Your family is already incredibly rich!”
Kai’s eyes immediately sharpened.
“Do you really think I’m that low?”
Amelia laughed softly with irony.
“You once thought I would sell my body for money.”
Those words instantly made Kai freeze.
“So of course I think you’re just as low.”
Kai turned his gaze elsewhere.
His chest felt tight. All the cruel things he had said in the past came crashing back into his mind. Words once spoken out of jealousy.
But they had become Amelia’s deepest wound.
“I’m sorry...” Kai whispered softly.
But Amelia no longer wanted to hear it. The woman immediately walked away from the dining room without turning back even once.
Kai could only stand there silently, letting out a long breath filled with exhaustion.
Amelia had truly changed. She was completely different from the Amelia he used to know.
Back then, Amelia had been cheerful and obedient. Always smiling.
But now... the woman stayed silent more often and constantly fought back. Her gaze looked so cold.
In fact, during all their encounters after reuniting, Kai had not once seen Amelia laugh the way she used to.
However, there was one thing about her that had never changed.
Amelia was still brave. And still strong.
•••
After seeing Kai’s car leave through the gate, Amelia immediately went back into the room.
Since leaving the dining table earlier, she had been standing on the balcony, making sure Kai had truly left for work.
Once the atmosphere felt safe, Amelia took her phone out of her bag.
Her fingers quickly opened the group chat with her best friends.
Messages
\[Can you do it tomorrow, Mike?\] Amelia typed.
\[Yes. Don’t worry. Everything is ready.\] Mike replied.
\[9 AM.\]
\[Okay. Ready to carry out the mission.\]
\[Sorry for troubling you guys again.\]
\[What are you even talking about? Just prepare yourself for tomorrow.\] Rania replied.
\[Thank you. I love you all.\] Amelia added a heart emoji.
\[Love you too.\] Rania replied.
\[Me too.\] Mike replied.
\[I love you more.\] Ryan replied.
Without realizing it, Amelia smiled faintly as she read the last messages from her three best friends.
Her chest felt a little warmer.
She felt incredibly lucky to have them.
Friends who were always there whenever she fell.
Who never left her alone.
Because of that, Amelia knew she wasn’t alone.
She could not give up.
Her gaze slowly shifted outside the window.
Toward the gate of the house that felt like a prison to her.
“Tomorrow...” she murmured softly.
“I’m getting out of here.”
