Chapter 183
Chapter 183
"Why are you here?" Evelyn frowned.
"I came to take you to the airport." Matthew naturally took her suitcase.
Clingy.
The driver helped stuff all the luggage into the trunk.
Matthew frowned. "Why so many suitcases? Aren't you only going back for a few days?"
"They're all gifts from Henry for the kids." Evelyn turned to look at Matthew with a hint of schadenfreude.
"Who would've thought—just a godfather, yet so thoughtful, sending exactly what the kids want."
Matthew felt called out.
He glanced toward the door, catching Monica peeking in their direction.
Monica gave him an awkward laugh and quickly ducked back inside.
She didn't want conflict with Matthew—that man could kill with just a look.
Matthew withdrew his gaze, speaking somewhat gloomily. "I thought the trust fund was good."
"How would kids know what a trust fund is? They'll only think Uncle Henry's toys are really fun."
Evelyn drew out her words. "Mr. Perkins, if you want to win over kids, you'll need to put in some effort."
Matthew hung his head dejectedly.
Right—Evelyn's child was only a few years old.
He should do both!
Buy the trust fund and buy all the gifts too!
The car soon headed toward the airport. Evelyn had left plenty of time, so there was no rush.
She leaned back in her seat. "I won't pursue how you got my address."
"But from now on, you can't have people spy on or follow my life. It makes me very uncomfortable and leaves me no privacy. Understand?"
Matthew nodded. "Your address was obtained long ago. Susan already dealt with those people."
"After you told me at the café, I never had anyone follow you again."
Evelyn made a sound of acknowledgment and said nothing more, closing her eyes to rest.
Rustling sounds came from beside her.
She turned to look—Matthew was unbuttoning his shirt one button at a time.
Evelyn: "..."
Wait, what was he doing?
Matthew pulled open his collar like presenting a treasure and leaned over.
"What are you doing?" Evelyn instinctively leaned back.
Then she saw it—on one side of Matthew's collarbone were two sharp tooth-shaped red tattoos.
The tattoo was particularly striking on his skin.
Evelyn's eyes widened. "You got a tattoo?"
Matthew nodded proudly. "From now on, I'm officially stamped and certified by you."
"This tattoo will stay with me for life. I'm your husband. All other random men need to step aside!"
Evelyn was somewhat shocked.
Matthew had severe OCD.
In the office before, even if the coffee temperature was wrong he'd show displeasure, let alone tattoos—he'd always extremely disliked them.
But now, he'd actually tattooed the mark she'd bitten onto his body.
"Does it look good?" Seeing Evelyn's silence, Matthew kindly explained.
"I specifically had the tattoo artist design it as red, sharp teeth."
"Like a vampire mark from European mythology—eternal, captivating."
"You... you're too love-brained!" Evelyn blurted out.
The things this man was doing now completely didn't fit the Limbo Inc. CEO's image.
She was truly shocked.
"You don't like it?" Matthew's voice immediately dropped.
"I was afraid I wouldn't make it in time to pick you up, so I specifically had a tattoo artist do it on the way."
"When the car was moving, it really hurt."
Evelyn: ...
She felt even more that Matthew had gone mad, but something in her chest felt like it had been gently struck.
"It's good. I'm happy." She honestly shared her feelings.
Frankly, though this behavior was somewhat childish, somewhat love-brained, Evelyn's heart was extremely pleased.
Essentially, she and Monica were the same type of person.
What they truly desired deep down was open, honest love.
Three years ago, Evelyn had countless times imagined that one day, she and Matthew would openly wear matching outfits and announce their relationship to everyone.
Now, Matthew was slowly achieving that, bit by bit filling the insecurity of that once-timid Evelyn.
The car suddenly stopped.
Evelyn glanced at the scenery outside and froze.
This was... below the apartment building?
Matthew took her hand, speaking mysteriously. "I calculated the time. We'll make it."
"I prepared a gift for you."
Evelyn followed him out of the car.
Matthew walked toward the flower shop. The shop owner was already waiting at the entrance.
Seeing him approach, she greeted happily. "Sir, I started wrapping your flowers this morning. Just finished arranging them!"
She brought out a large bouquet of red roses from the small shop behind her, then another large bouquet of daisies.
Matthew thanked her and took the flowers, turning toward Evelyn.
The shop owner was surprised when she saw Evelyn.
She'd seen them before in the elevator and had greeted them warmly.
She'd thought they were just two unacquainted residents of this apartment building.
But now—the way this gentleman looked at this lady with such deep affection—clearly she was his beloved!
Could the flowers he'd been buying for three years straight have been for this lady?
Honestly, they looked so well-matched.
The shop owner was staring at the two lost in thought when she suddenly heard the sharp sound of tires screeching against pavement.
The accident happened the next second.
An out-of-control car, at extreme speed, crashed toward Evelyn's direction.
In that critical moment, Matthew lunged at Evelyn, rolling with her to the side, narrowly avoiding the car.
Flower petals scattered everywhere.
The car hit a fire hydrant, immediately spraying water everywhere.
Matthew's expression darkened as he looked at the car, only to see a masked man in the driver's seat pull a black object from his chest and flash them a vicious smile.
Bang—!
A gunshot.
Matthew instinctively rolled over, shielding Evelyn beneath him, blocking her with his entire body.
Then another gunshot.
The man had actually shot himself.
Evelyn, knocked to the ground, her mind blank, couldn't process what was happening.
The explosive sound of gunfire left her ears ringing, only her heartbeat pounding wildly in her chest.
She looked up dazedly, meeting Matthew's tightly closed eyes.
The air reeked of blood like rust.
She looked down and suddenly noticed Matthew's chest blooming with a crimson mist.
"Matthew—!"
Evelyn let out a piercing scream.
