Chapter342
Elizabeth held her hand: “Auntie, don’t be angry.”
“Actually, I don’t believe that Alex dated her. I’m just worried…”
“Worried about what?”
“Worried that… Maureen is never satisfied.”
Elizabeth looked worried: “I didn’t want to bring it up, but since we’re on the topic, I have to tell you.”
“Last time, I saw Maureen privately meeting with Alex. I don’t know what they talked about, but Maureen’s eyes were all red.”
Heather listened silently, clenching her fist.
“Such a disgrace to the family!”
“Elizabeth, you absolutely can’t tell anyone about this, okay?”
Heather lowered her voice.
Elizabeth nodded. “Of course.”
Pearl.
Maureen composed herself and began decorating for New Year’s Day with Geoffrey and Ethan.
She placed Zoe’s photo in the most prominent spot.
“Mom, this way we’re spending Christmas Holidays together, right?”
Maureen stood there for a long time, her fingers tracing Zoe’s photo.
Ethan walked over. “Grandma can definitely see us from heaven.”
“Yeah.”
Maureen nodded.

She remembered when she was very young. Gareth scared her by saying death erases everything.
Back then, she tearfully told Zoe, “Zoe, please don’t die. Chubby says nothing exists after death.
Zoe comforted her, “Silly girl, how could death erase everything?
If someone remembers you, you become the wind, the clouds, the stars watching over them.”
Maureen gazed into the pitch–black night outside. A gentle breeze drifted through the window, brushing her cheek.
Mom, is that you visiting me?
After finishing the decorations carly, Ethan fell asleep clutching Maureen’s hand tightly, afraid she might leave.
Maureen nestled beside him and soon drifted off to sleep
Geoffrey slipped in while she was asleep, dead to the world after countless restless nights.
The towering man felt for Ethan’s hand, lifting the child straight from Maureen’s embrace into the
next room.
“Little rascal, still clinging to Mom at this age? Shameless”
He shut the door, then slid beside Maureen, wrapping her in his arms.
Next door, Ethan hugged his pillow, muttering “Scumbag dad, stealing Mommy from me? Not happening.”
Dawn broke. When he opened his eyes, only a plump pillow filled his arms.
He frantically rubbed his sleepy eyes.
“Mommy?
Mommy!”
Ethan scanned the unfamiliar surroundings.
“Why am I here?”
Rubbing his groggy head, he mumbled: “Must be dreaming. Just sleep a bit longer.”
Maureen’s recent sleepless nights had kept him anxiously awake too. Now, finally resting soundly, he naturally wasn’t easy to wake.

Chapter342
Maureen woke up in Geoffrey’s arms.
She glanced around, noticing Ethan’s absence, confusion clouding her eyes.
The slight movement roused Geoffrey, who immediately pulled Maureen closer.
“Awake?”
“Where’s Ethan?”
Maureen asked.
“The room felt cramped yesterday, so I moved him to the guest bedroom.”
Geoffrey said without batting an eye.
Maureen stared at the over two meters wide bed. Cramped?
She tried to sit up.
Geoffrey’s arm tightened around her waist, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Sleep a bit longer.”
Their bodies radiated warmth through Maureen’s thin nightgown.
“No, I can’t sleep.”
She tried prying his hand away.
Geoffrey engulfed her smaller hand in his.
“Be good.”
He whispered against her ear.
His husky voice and hot breath made Maureen shiver.
Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a halo over Geoffrey’s striking features.
Maureen’s gaze lingered on his thin lips, amazed they could be this close now.
As she hesitated, Geoffrey kissed her forehead, his palm stroking hers.
“Reenie, I’m not feeling well.”
Maureen froze. “Where does it hurt?”
Geoffrey grabbed her hand and guided it downward.

Maureen’s face instantly flushed crimson.
“You pervert-”
Before she could finish, the phone on the nightstand rang.

Maureen lunged for the phone, sinking her teeth into Geoffrey’s arm. The man grunted and released her.
The caller ID showed Heather.
Maureen hesitated but answered, remembering their fresh start required mutual respect.
“Christmas Holidays start tomorrow. Pack your things and come over today with Geoff.”
“Sorry, we’re spending Christmas Holidays at Pearl. We won’t be coming back this year.”
She’d made Geoffrey promise this earlier.
For their new beginning to work, he must consult her on decisions like any normal husband would.
Heather exploded at Maureen’s refusal, fueled by Elizabeth’s gossip yesterday.
“Did I ask for your opinion?”
As she prepared to berate Maureen, Geoff’s impatient voice cut through the line: “Reenie and I aren’t asking either. We’re telling you we’re not coming for Christmas Holidays.”
Geoffrey hung up immediately.
Seeing him defend her so fiercely warmed Maureen’s heart.
Geoffrey placed his phone back on the nightstand and wrapped his arms around her again.
“I’ll handle anything you don’t want to do from now on. Just tell me.”
Maureen rested her head against his chest and nodded. “Mm.”
“Shall we go back to sleep?”
Geoffrey murmured softly.
Maureen wasn’t used to such intimacy when Ethan woke up, banging on the door.
“Mommy! Mommy! Are you okay?”
