Chapter317
Her eyes immediately locked onto the Wedding Favor bag in his hand.
A deafening silence filled the room.
Geoffrey froze in place. Rage had fueled his rushed return; he hadn’t anticipated running into Maureen.
Geoffrey strode inside, pretending not to know Maureen was there, and set down the Wedding Favor bag.
Maureen frowned, “Why are you taking my things?”
She descended the stairs, peering into the bag–the box remained inside.
“Did you look?”
Maureen pressed.
Geoffrey stood frozen, “No. I can’t see.”
She didn’t buy it. He’d clearly picked it up, carried it outside–probably had someone check it for him.
“Want to know what’s inside?”
Maureen teased him deliberately.
Geoffrey’s sharp eyebrows lifted slightly, “No.”
Unfazed, Maureen sat and opened it herself.
“Your brother’s Wedding Favor is quite valuable–a gold pendant. Mind if I keep it?”
Geoffrey listened silently to her lie, unable to expose it.
No point getting jealous over childhood antics, he told himself, yet muttered through a pouty tone, “Fine.”
Maureen recognized his expression instantly–he knew exactly what the box held.
He’d snooped through her things and denied it. So she made a show of not discarding it, carrying

the gift back to her room right before his eyes.
Alone in the living room, Geoffrey’s expression darkened further.
When Maureen returned downstairs, he sat stiffly on the sofa without a word.
Maureen deliberately ignored him, peeling an apple for herself.
“Want some?”
“No need.”

Maureen saw how proud yet vulnerable he looked and didn’t bother explaining. “It’s getting late, I’m heading to bed.”
She stood up, but before taking two steps, Geoffrey reached out and pulled her firmly into his embrace.
Caught off guard, Maureen found herself pressed against his chest, her crimson lips brushing against his neck while her hands accidentally braced against his thighs.
Geoffrey’s breath hitched, his voice turning husky. “Reenie, let’s sleep together tonight, okay?”
Maureen’s ears flushed crimson, her heartbeat racing wildly.
“No.”
As she tried to rise, her hand grazed Geoffrey’s groin. She jerked away reflexively.
Geoffrey grunted, swiftly capturing her small hand.
“I promise not to touch you, just hold you while we sleep.”
Maureen wasn’t some naive girl to fall for that. “Absolutely not, let me go this instant!”
Geoffrey had already tolerated her keeping that token of love from Alex. He wouldn’t indulge her further now, scooping her up effortlessly.
Suspended midair, Maureen clutched at Geoffrey’s shirt.
“What are you doing? Put me down!”
Geoffrey felt her faint breaths ghosting his face, his throat tightening. “Don’t move, or you might fall.”
Maureen froze in place. Geoffrey was indeed too tall; when they reached the stairs, she felt like

she was floating in mid–air.
She quickly averted her gaze and stayed still.
Geoffrey carried her back to the room, shutting the door behind them.
In a few strides, he reached the bed, setting her down before pressing his weight against her.
Maureen twisted away to escape, but he hooked an arm around her waist, pulling her back: “Geoffrey!”
She couldn’t fathom why she couldn’t outmaneuver a blind man.
Just as she prepared to sink her teeth into his hand, Geoffrey lowered his voice: “Reenie, what am I going to do with you?”
Maureen stilled, hearing him murmur: “I’m unhappy.”
As he spoke, he held her tighter.
She loosened her grip, stopped trying to pry his hands away: “Why are you unhappy?
Is it about the Wedding Favors?”
“Didn’t you have a first love too?
If I acted like you, wouldn’t I drown in misery every single day?”
Geoffrey wanted to explain that nothing had ever happened between him and Andrea, but he was still pretending to have amnesia.
“Nothing.”
Geoffrey closed his eyes. “Go to sleep.”
Maureen moved a bit away from his embrace and fell into a restless sleep.
She had to go to the hospital for a prenatal checkup tomorrow, so she needed to rest well today.
Elsewhere, at Karaville Hospital.
Elizabeth lay in the hospital room and finally calmed down.
Her father Raymond had sent people to investigate who had insulted his daughter, but since the

Thompsons had made many enemies after returning, it was hard to find out who did it right away.
Noelle was still upset about what happened at the Engagement Party, but when she heard about Elizabeth’s situation, she came to see her immediately: “Elizabeth, are you okay?”
But Elizabeth didn’t give her a warm welcome.
“Do you even have to ask?
Can’t you see?”
Elizabeth had been willing to give Noelle face before, after all, she had been married to her father for five years.
But the thought of her daughter Maureen secretly seducing Alex made Elizabeth lose her temper with Noelle.
Noelle wasn’t angry at her impatient tone. Instead, she tucked her in with a pained heart.
