Chapter316
Maureen clenched the ring tightly, the band digging deep into her palm, her heart swelling with guilt for mistaking the person.
She took out her phone and replied to Alex: “Okay.”
Then typed: “I saw the wedding favor. I’m truly sorry for mistaking you.
We can still be friends. If there’s anything I can help with, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Maureen figured that since Alex had returned the ring, he must be ready to leave the past behind.
Soon came a reply, just one word: “Okay.”
Maureen turned off her phone.
Geoffrey overheard her subtle movements, knowing she’d tell him if willing, so he didn’t ask.
He waited long after they arrived home, but Maureen remained silent.
His handsome brows furrowed slightly as she got out alone.
“Why aren’t you coming?”
Maureen asked, puzzled.
“Company matters need my attention.”
Geoffrey replied.
“Alright, I’ll head in then.”
Maureen took the wedding favor inside, planning to discard both when she found the pair–letting the past stay past.
The moment she left, Geoffrey summoned Wayne.
After checking the car footage, Wayne told him: “Mrs. Sutton took out a box in the car, and there was a ring inside.”
Geoffrey thought of the Wedding Favor Alex gave–who would’ve expected a ring inside?

Did Maureen take it?
“Nothing else?”
“Then she replied to a text.”
“Who was it for?”

Wayne felt awkward. Though the car had cameras, none captured Maureen’s phone screen.
He’d guessed she was replying based on her movements alone.
After reporting truthfully to Geoffrey, silence hung heavy before Geoffrey ordered: “Later, have someone steal that ring.”
Wayne: “…Understood.”
The boss really had to control everything, even investigating such trivial matters.
“Will you head back now?”
Wayne asked.
Geoffrey sat in the car, rubbing his temples. “Not until we get that item.”
“…Alright.”
Sitting with Geoffrey made Wayne thoroughly uncomfortable. He just wanted to go soothe his fiancee, who was throwing another fit.
The two waited in the car for nightfall. Only then could their men sneak in to steal the ring.
Maureen returned and casually dropped the gift bag on the table before heading to Zoe’s room to relieve the caregiver.
After the specialist’s treatment, Zoe’s spirits had improved significantly. If she kept this up, she might live several more years.
Neither noticed the intruder slipping inside.
Soon, the ring box was delivered to Geoffrey.
Wayne opened it, eyeing the cheap–looking ring. “This tacky thing can’t be from Alex, can it?”
Geoffrey refused to believe Alex would give such a pitiful Wedding Favor.

“Check for anything else.
Wayne inspected closely and spotted engraved letters inside the band: XSLNC.
“Looks like initials–XS, LNC. Isn’t that Maureen and your name, boss?”

Wayne chuckled. “Sir, could this be Mrs. Sutton’s surprise for you?”
“Cheap but heartfelt. See these crooked letters? Hand–engraved… Teh teh. Told you she adores you. She’s just playing coy now–you’re still in her heart. Hell, my girlfriend never crafts me anything.”
Wayne rattled on, oblivious to Geoffrey’s darkened expression.
Geoffrey didn’t let Wayne see the previous video, so Wayne had no idea Alex had given this to Maureen.
Geoffrey took the ring, pondering briefly. The only explanation was that Maureen had once given it to Alex.
Because Maureen had always believed Alex was Geoffrey!
“Boss, want me to put it on for you?
Mrs. Sutton would be thrilled to see it. Surprise her…”
“Enough.”
Geoffrey cut him off. “Get out.”
Wayne’s face darkened, clueless which nerve he’d struck this time.
“Right.”
He couldn’t wait to leave this place and get home to his wife.
After Wayne left, Geoffrey clenched the ring so tightly its edges dug into his palm.
Just then, his phone rang. Alex was calling.
“Bro, see the Wedding Favor I returned?
Reenie gave it to me years ago. Sort of an engagement ring.”
“We were each other’s first loves.”

Alex knew Geoffrey’s curiosity would demand to know what was inside that Wedding Favor.
Engagement ring. First loves!
Every word grated like nails on chalkboard. If Geoffrey could see right now, he’d storm back to Karaville and punch his brother senseless.
Geoffrey didn’t respond, confirming he’d seen the message. Alex twisted the knife further: “Bro, you had your first love too, right? Shouldn’t mind me and Reenie’s past?”
Could Andrea even count as a first love when they’d never held hands?
“Your useless tricks won’t work on me. Reenie already threw that ring away.” Geoffrey hung up, the discarded ring burning in his palm.
He couldn’t decide whether to toss it or keep it.
Maureen would be furious if he threw it out, yet keeping it felt deeply unsettling.
Finally, the memory of Maureen’s tear–streaked face surfaced. He placed the ring back in its box, bagged it, and headed back.
As Geoffrey entered, Maureen descended the stairs.
