Chapter257
Katherine hadn’t taken Jacob’s words seriously in the first place. He’s just a kid, how could he find her a better partner than Tyler??
“Reenic, I’m so nervous.”
Katherine looked back at Maureen.
Maureen walked up and held her hand: “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
All these years, because of Tyler, Katherine had never been with another man. It wasn’t that no one pursued her, but she turned them all down.
The first thing she did when she returned to the country was look for Tyler, but when she found him, he already had a girlfriend.
And now, when the two are about to get married, he actually sent Katherine an invitation.
Adding insult to injury, that’s all it was.
With Maureen’s comfort, Katherine finally stepped forward and walked in.
The moment they reached the banquet hall entrance, she saw the wedding photo of the groom and bride. In the picture, the woman in a white wedding gown stood dove–like beside Tyler.
Maureen also caught a glimpse of the bride’s face–it bore an uncanny resemblance to Katherine.
“The bride is beautiful,” Katherine murmured.
Maureen’s heart ached for her: “My dear Katherine is far prettier.”
Jacob took Katherine’s hand:
“Mommy, you’re much more beautiful.”
That “Mommy” snapped Katherine back to reality. Seeing the caring gazes flanking her, her spirits lifted.
“Right, I am prettier. Let’s head in.‘
Holding Jacob with one hand and Maureen with the other, Katherine thought–who needed a man

As they entered, they bumped into the groom greeting guests at the door, along with his parents.
Tyler froze momentarily upon spotting Katherine but quickly resumed his icy demeanor: “You
came.”
“Mm.”
Katherine nodded.
She then produced a red envelope: “This is the cash gift.”
Tyler didn’t take it, his eyes fixed on the child she held.
Just as he prepared to ask, Mr. and Mrs. Adams hurried over.
“Oh, Katherine? What brings you here?”
Mrs. Adams’s face twisted with disdain, clearly fearing Katherine might cause trouble.
Katherine knew exactly how much this rich girl loved her son.
“Tyler is getting married already. It’d be pointless to keep clinging to him, right?”
Kimberly Adams spoke with vulgar practicality, her hand instinctively accepting the thick cash gift.
Katherine replied coldly: “Tyler invited me. Didn’t you know?”
Kimberly choked on her words.
She truly hadn’t known. Weighing the cash gift in her hand, Kimberly curled into a smile and whispered: “Katherine, your uncle and I both adore you. I’ve actually scolded Tyler many times. Pity he’s so stubborn, insisting on marrying that Margaret Miller.”
“If you don’t mind… after Tyler’s wedding, you two ‘could still stay in touch.”
Katherine froze at these words.
What did Kimberly mean?
“Stay in touch” after marriage?
Before she could process it, Maureen stepped in front of her protectively.

“Auntic. are you suggesting your son needs a mistress?”
Kimberly blinked, still oblivious to Maureen’s fury. “Must you phrase it so crudely? Every accomplished man keeps a mistress nowadays.”
Kimberly thought that since Katherine was Alex’s daughter, it was definitely right for her son to stay in touch with her
Maureen confirmed her suspicions and, right in Tyler’s face, showed no respect for him or his mother.
“Oh, I see.
You really are a great mother. Your son’s getting married, yet you’re still helping him scout mistresses on the side. Does your future daughter–in–law know?”
Maureen didn’t wait for her reply before adding, “Our Katherine came to this wedding not because she’s hung up on your son, but to see what kind of family would ruin that good girl.”
After speaking, Maureen glared coldly at Tyler: “Tyler, rotten apples don’t fall far from the tree. Letting your mother say such things–do you even deserve to be called a lawyer?”
Before arriving, Maureen hadn’t known the true colors of Tyler’s parents; she’d only thought Tyler himself was heartless.
Hearing Maureen’s words, Tyler turned to his mother: “Mom, stop talking nonsense.
In this lifetime, I’ll only be with Samantha Miller and only love her.”
Standing behind Maureen, Katherine heard this and suddenly felt her past self had been nothing but a clown.
To this day, she remembers Tyler holding her in that shabby hotel, saying:
“I, Tyler, swear I’ll only be with Katherine and only love her in this lifetime.”
Katherine bit back the urge to confront her.
Kimberly, who always obeyed her son, shot Maureen a fierce glare and muttered under her breath:
“What’s wrong with my outstanding son having a few women?
What boss these days sticks to just one woman?”
“Some people just can’t accept reality. Who’d want that tramp if she left my son?”

Kimberly knew Katherine and Tyler had shared a hotel room and slept together long ago.
Hearing “tramp.” Maureen strode forward and seized Kimberly’s arm: “What did you say?
