Chapter256
Hearing Jacob call him by his name, Geoffrey’s face instantly turned cold.
Maybe it was the genes kicking in, but he grabbed Jacob by the collar and lifted him up.
Jacob’s legs instantly lost support as he struggled.
“Put me down!
You asshole!”
Just as Geoffrey was about to teach him a lesson, Zoe’s cough made him immediately loosen his grip.
Jacob realized even this scumbag had someone he feared.
Since Grandma Zoe was like Mom’s birth mother, she was essentially his mother–in–law. A son- in–law fearing his mother–in–law–a universal truth.
Jacob got an idea.
He approached Zoe and opened his backpack: “Grandma, I miss you so much every day at school. How have you been feeling lately?”
Zoe’s mood lifted seeing the little dumpling.
“Grandma misses you too, dear. I’m perfectly healthy.”
Seizing the moment, Jacob added: “Grandma, didn’t you say overseas you craved hometown Dried Fish Snack?
Uncle Geoffrey just promised he’d catch some at the local creek tonight.”
Zoe looked surprised–so that’s what they were discussing earlier. Geoffrey wasn’t bullying Jacob.
“But the creek’s frozen over now,” Zoe said.
Jacob instantly replied: “No problem! Uncle said he’ll perform the American tall tale of loyalty.”

Chapter256
American tall tale of loyalty means lying on ice, using body heat to melt it and catch fish.
Jacob was deliberately making things hard for Geoffrey.

Zoe saw it too and was about to refuse, but unexpectedly Geoffrey said: “Alright, I’ll catch fish tonight.”
Maureen couldn’t help wondering why Geoffrey suddenly wanted to catch fish.
Zoe didn’t believe it. In such deep winter, the river ice was at least a foot thick. How could he catch fish?
She thought he was bragging without caring about the consequences,
Truth proved there’s very little money can’t achieve.
At ten that night, someone delivered fresh catch–river fish from the local creek Zoe loved.
Geoffrey handed the fish to Maureen.
Maureen immediately made soup for the old lady. Fish straight from the river tasted incredibly fresh.
She planned to keep some of the remaining fish and give the rest to neighbors.
Maureen wasn’t curious how Geoffrey got the fish. With money, plenty would help.
Zoe refused the soup: “He caught these?”
“More accurately, caught with money.”
Maureen said.
Zoe shook her head: “I won’t owe him.”
Maureen set the bowl aside and hugged her: “You’re overthinking. He stays here daily. What’s wrong with him getting you fish?”
Maureen knew Zoe was afraid she’d feel touched and indebted to Geoffrey over small things again.
After some persuasion, Zoe finally agreed to drink the soup.
“The fish from our river here never tastes fishy.”
Zoe felt happier than ever before.

Chapter256
She’d never imagined spending her twilight years surrounded by a daughter and grandson.
Night.
After finishing half a bowl of soup, Zoe fell asleep again.
Maureen gently held the old woman’s hand, watching her frail and gaunt figure.
Truthfully, she dreaded thinking about life without Zoe–where would she go?
People say home is where the mother is. Zoe was her mother. If Zoe were gone, wouldn’t that mean home vanished too?
Jacob stood cautiously at the doorway. “Mommy.”
Maureen tucked Zoe’s hand under the blanket before stepping out. “What is it?”
“I’m staying at Aunt Katherine’s tomorrow. She wants you to come too–for Tyler’s wedding the day after.”
Honestly, Katherine dreaded attending her ex’s wedding alone, but her pride wouldn’t let her miss
Maybe only seeing Tyler with another woman would make her finally let go.
“I almost forgot about this. Okay, I’ll drive you there tomorrow.‘
“Mm–hmm.”
The next day, before leaving, Maureen instructed the nurse and nanny to take good care of Zoe and call her if anything happened.
She told Geoffrey she’d leave with Roy after visiting Karaville.
Right after they left, Geoffrey had someone drive him to Karaville.
Sunday.
Katherine wore an evening gown, looking exquisite.
Jacob changed into a little suit and emerged from the dressing room.
“Wow, so handsome!”

Katherine gazed at Jacob with sparkling eyes.
“Roy, let Aunt Katherine pinch those cute cheeks.”
Jacob looked disgusted: “Aunt Katherine, can’t you act more mature?”
Maureen smiled knowingly at the two clowns.
“Alright, time to go.”
Katherine reluctantly withdrew her hand.
The three boarded the private car heading to Four Seasons Hotel.
The car slowly stopped at the entrance of the Four Seasons Hotel.
Katherine sat inside the car, looking into the hotel with a complicated expression.
She forced herself to calm down and got out of the car with Jacob.
Maureen got out too.
Jacob looked at his watch.
It’s already time, why hasn’t he shown up?
Does he not want to get paid? So unreliable.
If I could leave a review, it would definitely be a bad one!
