Chapter244
Maureen rubbed her aching neck as she stepped outside.
Adrian lay writhing in pain, unable to rise. “Maureen… you actually brought thugs to beat me?
Do you have any idea who I am now?”
Maureen glanced toward Justin.
Without hesitation, Justin stomped on Adrian’s chest again.
“Withdraw the lawsuit!”
Justin’s icy command cut through the air.
Adrian desperately clawed at Justin’s leg, panic rising. “Fine! I’ll withdraw it! I will!”
Justin kept his foot planted firmly.
Servants watched their second young master pinned beneath Justin’s boot, none daring to intervene.
Adrian felt his organs screaming, tears welling.
“Sis… I was wrong, Sis… Make him stop! He’ll kill me!”
Only when thoroughly broken would Adrian call Maureen “Sis.”
Maureen remembered their childhood fights. She’d fought back at first.
Younger then, Adrian always lost.
After each beating, he’d sob pitifully: “Sis… I’m sorry, Sis…”
But Noelle always intervened-grabbing whatever was nearby to hurl at Maureen.
Once, a vase shattered against Maureen’s skull. Blood painted her face crimson, the world drowning in red.

After that, Maureen could only passively take the beatings, not daring to fight back.
Recalling the past. Maureen slowly withdrew her thoughts and said to Justin, “Let’s go.”
“Okay”
The two were inside the Governor’s Mansion, unaware that a Maybach was parked under a big tree outside.
Geoffrey located Maureen here via her phone and immediately had someone investigate. finding out her biological mother lived here.
He’d already sent people into the Governor’s Mansion to check. The bodyguard reported that Adrian had choked Maureen, then got beaten until he spat blood by her bodyguard.
Geoffrey listened silently, saying nothing.
Wayne couldn’t help remarking, “Adrian’s such scum. If it weren’t for the lady, he’d have ended up way worse.”
Five years back, Adrian and Noelle tried selling Maureen to some seventy-year-old geezer. When she refused to the death, they fled overseas fearing his revenge.
If Geoffrey hadn’t eliminated that old man for Maureen, how could they’ve swanned back living in luxury?
“Tell me.”
Geoffrey spoke up.
Memories learned secondhand always felt fragmented.
They just wouldn’t piece together in Geoffrey’s mind.
Wayne started summarizing the events but cut off mid-sentence, spotting a small figure at the mansion’s back door. His eyes widened: “Ethan!
!”
He mistook Jacob for Ethan.
“Who?”
Geoffrey asked.

“That’s Mrs. Sutton and Gareth’s son!”
Geoffrey’s heart elenched before he ordered: “Bring him to me.”
“Yes.”
Wayne immediately signaled the bodyguard to seize Jacob.
Jacob had sneaked over after tricking Katherine into fetching a package for him. While plotting how to enter the Governor’s Mansion, hands suddenly grabbed him from behind.
Suspended mid-air, Jacob instantly swung a kick, though his little legs proved useless against the bodyguard.
“Who are you?
Let me go!”
Jacob demanded coldly, not recognizing the man.
Meeting the boy’s pitch-black eyes, the sudden command startled the bodyguard-the gesture was his boss’s spitting image.
“Ethan, long time no see.”
Wayne approached him now, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses.
So it was this kid!
Took me forever to find him.
Ethan?
Jacob was a bit confused.
But he quickly realized these guys had mistaken him for his brother Ethan.
As for the name “Ethan”… it was probably an alias his brother used when fooling around.
Jacob knew Wayne, that lackey working for his scumbag dad-no saint either, who’d surely bullied Mom plenty before.
“Why are you grabbing me?”
Jacob asked calmly, staring at Wayne.

Wayne froze, puzzled why Ethan wasn’t whining or acting cute anymore.
The kid used to burst into tears over nothing.
Shrugging it off, he stepped forward and took Jacob from the bodyguard: “Our boss wants to see you.”
Hearing his scumbag dad wanted him, Jacob stopped struggling and let Wayne haul him into
the car.
Weird-why wasn’t that scumbag staying put in Small Town? What brought him here?
Right outside the Governor’s Mansion? Had he been tailing Mom?
The possibility sent chills crawling up Jacob’s spine.
So damn sneaky!
A cold draft seeped into the car. Geoffrey couldn’t see but heard the rustling.
“Boss, got him here.”
Once seated, Jacob couldn’t help sizing up Geoffrey.
Was his scumbag dad really blind?
He tested the waters: “Why’d you grab me?”
Jacob asked, “Are you threatening my mom again?”
Geoffrey ignored him, turning to Wayne.
“Take him back to Small Town first.”
Jacob immediately protested upon hearing this.
“I won’t go to Small Town! Let me go now!”
Returning there would only put his mom in an awkward position. How could she explain her relationship with Geoffrey?
Geoffrey’s dark gaze swept over him. “You don’t get a choice.”
“Refuse, and I’ll have you killed right now!”

The man’s overwhelming presence instantly silenced Jacob. Though blind and amnesiac, this emotionally distant father remained dangerously intimidating.
Jacob fought to conceal his fear. Steadying himself, he retorted coldly:
