Chapter 21
After they got married, Geoffrey wouldn’t get intimate with Maureen. Three years had passed, and they still didn’t have a child.
Heather bodged. She tried to bring Andrea and Geoffrey together and said Andrea could marry him if she gave birth
to his child
“Who’s the man?” Geoffrey asked Andrea.
Maureen had said on the phone that she wouldn’t marry another man for $50 million.
And Geoffrey didn’t believe her love for him was fake.
Andrea hesitated to reply.
“I don’t know.”
If she told Geoffrey that Maureen was forced to marry an old man, he’d soften.
“Since you don’t know, don’t mention it again.”
Taken aback, Andrea nodded.
Geoffrey was absent–minded all day.
At Karaville Central Hospital.
At night, in the ICU.
On a ventilator, Maureen breathed with difficulty
She didn’t die. Gareth took her to the hospital, and she was saved.
Looking at the tearful Zoe, she tried to comfort her with all her strength.
“It doesn’t hurt Don’t cry.”
Maureen considered herself weak and cowardly. To avoid pain, she had committed suicide by taking sleeping pills
Zoe’s hair had turned gray overnight. It saddened Maureen. She owed the old woman so much.
Weeping. Zoe grasped Maureen’s hand and said, “Reenie, listen to me. Cherish your life and live well, OK?
Maureen couldn’t promise her that

In the corridor.
“Sir, we examined her after the surgery. She’s two weeks pregnant.”
The wind blew fiercely outside. Maureen put her slender, pale hands on her belly, her eyes glassy.
Gareth had told her that, according to the doctor, she was pregnant.
Could it be more ironic?
Maureen’s dull eyes told everybody she had lost the will to live. Zoe had to do something.
“Reenie.”
It was a long while before Maureen reacted. She turned to Zoe. “Zoe.”
Red–eyed. Zoe gently straightened the stray hair at Maureen’s ear with her wrinkled hand. “Reenie, I have no children. You’re like a daughter to me.
“I have no other wishes but your health and happiness.
“If my only child dies, how shall I live?”
Maureen got nervous when she saw Zoe grab the fruit knife.
“I took care of you till you were ten. I hadn’t been around after that. It was my fault. I can only apologize to Mr. Ramirez in this way.”
Zoe slit her wrist with the knife.
Stunned, Maureen tried to stop her with all her might. Nonetheless, she was too frail to get up. “Zoe, no…” she screamed in a hoarse voice.
Zoe didn’t stop.
Blood flowed all over her wrist. Tears streamed down Maureen’s cheeks. She cried, “I won’t do it again. I promise. Zoe, please don’t…”
Hearing that, Zoe stopped.
Her eyes were bloodshot.
“Reenie, you’ve repaid your mom for giving birth to you.
“Now, you owe nothing to her or Geoffrey.
“From now on, you live for the ones who love you, for me, for your unborn baby.”
Maureen thought about it and decided to live well for herself and her child.
Henceforth, she was done with Noelle Davey. That woman was no longer her mom. Nor did she have a brother.

Chapter 21
Zoe and the baby were her only family.
Deep down, Zoe didn’t wanna force Maureen in this way.
But she couldn’t watch Maureen die.
Maureen couldn’t decide which family to be born into and had to be indebted to her birth mother.
What kind of mother would ask her daughter to repay her with her own life?
At the hospital.
Gareth told Maureen Noelle had fled abroad.
Maureen wasn’t sad.
She had been wanting to repay Noelle as she had repaid Geoffrey a long time ago. Then, they could be even.
Maureen didn’t wanna tell Geoffrey about her pregnancy.
It was an accident, after all.
She knew how much he loathed her.
He wouldn’t keep the baby.
Three days later, Maureen was discharged from the hospital.
