Chapter 188
“But I know you’re different from those scumbags. Buy me a big house when you grow up.”
Jacob knew she didn’t believe him–after all, he was just a kid.
“Alright.”
After agreeing, he decided to give Katherine some money tonight since he’d been staying at her place.
Next, Katherine started figuring out how to send Jacob to Maureen’s place.
She had no idea her apartment was already being watched.
Geoffrey confirmed Jacob and Ethan were different children–twins.
Yet one stayed with Katherine while the other lived with Zoe.
What did that mean?
Bitter wind mixed with snowflakes bit through the night, but Geoffrey stood motionless under a tree, numb to the cold.
His bodyguard delivered investigation files overnight. Pages detailed Katherine’s life abroad since leaving.
She’d kept to herself–no boyfriends, let alone children!
Meaning both boys were Maureen’s!
Then why had she lied to him?
Geoffrey lit a cigarette. After two shallow drags, violent coughs racked his chest.
His driver rushed out. “Sir, should we head back?”
“No.”
Perhaps only this biting cold could keep his mind sharp.

He remembered Ethan claiming his surname was Burke. Yet this child bore Ramirez!
Geoffrey couldn’t fathom Gareth and Maureen splitting surnames between twins.
After two or three days without sleep, his thoughts grew muddy, tangled beyond reason.
He needed to see Maureen now–to bind her where she stood, wouldn’t let her go anywhere.
As the thought consumed him, the corners of his eyes reddened. His striking features now looked gaunt, ravaged.
Tomorrow was the Sutton family gathering.
Geoffrey had refused, but Heather insisted he return, saying it was important.
He had no choice but to leave Katherine and Jacob under his subordinates‘ watch and head back to the old mansion.
The Sutton family’s old mansion.
Nearly everyone noticed something was off about him.
Once meticulous, he now looked unkempt, even sporting stubble.
A maid emerged from his room, clutching a ring with poorly concealed glee.
Suddenly Geoffrey blocked her path: “What’s that in your hand?”
Caught red–handed, the maid dropped to her knees in panic.
“Forgive me, Master! I wasn’t stealing–I found this under the pillow while changing the sheets.”
Geoffrey stared blankly at the ordinary diamond ring, unable to place its owner.
“This ring…”
“It must’ve been dropped by Ms. Ramirez,”
the maid offered.
Geoffrey’s chest tightened as he took the ring, spotting scratches on its surface.
He suddenly remembered–seven years ago on their wedding day, Maureen had hidden in the kitchen sobbing and trying to destroy this very ring because of his coldness.

Her tearful voice still echoed in his cars:
“Geoffrey, do you realize anyone here can walk all over me?
Nobody sees me as Mrs. Sutton–what exactly did I do wrong?”
A bitter taste rose in his throat as he clenched the ring.
“What did you just call her?”
“Ms. Ramirez.”
The servant, fearing Geoffrey’s anger, added, “That’s what everyone calls her.”
That’s what everyone calls her.
Maureen was right–here, nobody truly saw her as Mrs. Sutton.
Geoffrey froze.
The maid retreated cautiously, fear in her steps.
After she left, blood dripped slowly from Geoffrey’s hand still gripping the ring.
He knew Maureen hadn’t lost it–she’d left it deliberately, never to see him again.
Back in his room,
he carefully placed the blood–stained ring away before heading to Heather’s.
The moment Geoffrey stepped inside, the strong scent of disinfectant hit him.
Scanning past familiar faces, his eyes locked onto the hospital bed–where his identical twin brother Alex lay, medical devices beeping around him.
Geoffrey never thought he’d see Alex alive again!
Heather saw Geoffrey coming over and walked up: “Alex wants to talk to you alone.”
After saying that, Heather and the others left.
Geoffrey walked toward Alex: “Did you send that text earlier?”
Alex’s eyes were gentle as he signaled him to come closer.

Geoffrey leaned down slightly and heard him speak with some effort:
“The one she loves is me, and the one she wanted to marry is also me!”
Geoffrey’s hands in front of him slowly clenched, his knuckles turning white, his eyes icy cold.
Now he was completely sure of Maureen’s words: she had mistaken the person.
Did she really mistake his brother for him?
How ridiculous!
He had actually thought Maureen loved him deeply, loved him so much…
Alex noticed Geoffrey’s emotional turmoil but didn’t let up, instead provoking him slightly.
“I should have been her husband.”
Geoffrey’s Adam’s apple moved slightly. If it weren’t for the fact that the person in front of him was his brother, he might have killed him.
“I don’t care what happened between you two before. Now I’m her husband.”
He stood up: “You just woke up after so long, shouldn’t you rest properly?”
“Don’t fall asleep and never wake up again!”
After saying that coldly, Geoffrey walked out quickly.
