Chapter123
He’d only seen her on TV before.
Today he’d finally meet her.
Yet when the door opened, it was Maureen who entered.
Seeing her, the boy who’d stayed strong and dry–eyed since arriving felt his eyes well up instantly.
“Mommy..”
Maureen saw the pale, frail Little Bun and rushed over, gathering him in her arms.
“Ethan.”
“Mommy, wuwuwu I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too.”
Maureen held him with utmost care.
The nanny nearby hadn’t expected this beautiful woman to be Ethan’s mother.
Ethan was so adorable and sensible, and his mom was even more stunning.
Geoffrey stood at the doorway, watching the touching. reunion between mother and son.
He said nothing, motioning for the nanny to leave and giving them privacy.

She carefully examined his condition: “Have you felt unwell lately?”
Ethan shook his head: “I’m great! I eat like a king here every day.”
He lowered his voice.
“Mommy, that Geoffrey is totally clueless. He gives me whatever I ask for.”
“Last time I even peed all over him by accident.”
Maureen listened silently, disbelief flashing in her eyes.
Peeing on Geoffrey?
“Ethan, tell Mommy everything slowly.”
Ethan recounted every detail of how he’d peed on Geoffrey.
“It’s all his fault for scaring me! I thought he was gonna kill me! I thought I’d never see Mommy again!”
Ethan held Maureen tighter as he spoke.
Maureen’s heart ached for him.
Ethan had always been timid and sensitive since childhood–no wonder kidnapping had crossed his mind,
She couldn’t imagine how frightened he must’ve been, staying here alone all these days.
“It’s alright. Uncle Geoffrey just likes you, so he brought you

here to play. Mommy will take you home soon.”
She had no choice but to lie.
She never realized Ethan possessed extraordinary intelligence, just like Jacob.

“But I’m so scared of him. So I told him Uncle Leng is my dad.”
Ethan deliberately revealed this, worried Maureen’s secret might unravel. “Mommy, you didn’t tell him I’m fatherless, right?”
“If he knew… he’d definitely bully us.”
Maureen nearly cried hearing Ethan call himself fatherless.
She didn’t know how to tell her children they did have a father–Geoffrey.
Jacob noticed Maureen wasn’t quite herself and immediately started acting cute.
“Mommy.
Have you forgotten something?”
Maureen snapped out of it: “What?”
“A kiss.”
Ethan pointed at his own face.
Maureen immediately kissed his cheek.
“All done?”
“Uh–huh.”

Maureen felt a warmth she’d never experienced before during her time with Ethan.
All the grievances she’d suffered these past few days vanished into thin air.
The time the two spent together flew by. As the afternoon approached and it was time to part, Maureen gave him all kinds of reminders.
Unlike when they were abroad before, today he was especially sensible and didn’t throw a tantrum to stop Maureen from leaving.
In the past, when Maureen had to return to Karaville, Ethan would cry and fuss, not letting her leave, and it took a long time to coax him before he agreed.
Maureen had always thought her younger son was no different from ordinary children, only Jacob’s IQ was a bit higher.
She got into the car to go back.
Maureen was visibly downcast. She kept looking in the rearview mirror until the estate completely disappeared from view, then she looked away.
Geoffrey was sitting right beside her. He’d intended to talk to her about her birthday, but in the end, he didn’t say anything.
“Later, what would you like to eat?”
“Anything’s fine.”
Maureen didn’t have much appetite.

Alex had his driver take him to his regular private restaurant.
Maureen barely touched her food throughout the meal.
Geoffrey had no clue how to celebrate someone’s birthday.
On their way back, he ordered a cake delivered.
Upon arriving at Pearl,
Maureen spotted the cake on the dining table.
She was a bit surprised.
Without a word, Geoffrey headed straight to his study.
Maureen checked her phone and saw countless missed calls from Gareth and Katherine–silent mode had muted them.
Worried they might panic, she called Katherine first.
“Reenie! Finally picking up?
Why’d you leave yesterday?
Are you okay now?”
“Something came up last night, so I left early.
Missed your calls with my phone silenced.”
Katherine exhaled in relief: “Good to hear.”
“Yep.”
After chatting with Katherine, Maureen dialed Gareth.

She recounted the day’s events.
Gareth responded: “Give me Ethan’s address. I’ll send someone to extract him.”

“The security there is tight today. Extracting him won’t be
easy.”
Maureen paused, “Besides, I’m not pregnant yet. Taking Ethan now might make Geoffrey more vigilant.”
“Okay, then once you succeed, we’ll find a way to take Ethan away.”
Gareth didn’t know how long he could stay here.
