Chapter 18 Every Day, I Must Present Myself to Him主动
Candice was surprised that he had heard of witchcraft before.
She raised her eyebrows. "You know about it? Well, that makes my explanation much easier. Yes, it's exactly that..."
She explained to Brandon, "I've reviewed your test results and the toxin data. The poison itself isn't particularly special—deadly, yes, but any doctor could have treated it if caught in time."
"What makes it truly dangerous is that it activates the witchcraft residing in your body. In other words, your vision problems are actually caused by witchcraft affecting your optic nerve, leading to blindness."
"Good Lord, witchcraft? Really?"
Knox's expression changed slightly, as if something had clicked in his mind. He hurriedly asked, "Doctor, is this witchcraft you're talking about actually real?"
Candice nodded. "Sounds incredible, doesn't it? People say it's lost to history, but it's not—it still exists in our world, just extremely rare. I examined the scans your boss had taken. Those white, hair-thin filaments? Those are traces of witchcraft!"
Given this definitive answer, Knox was utterly dumbfounded. "Dr. Mandy, you're not pulling our leg, are you? This stuff belongs in TV shows, not real life!"
Candice merely glanced at him. "Who told you that what exists in television can't exist in reality? Ancient texts document countless families skilled in witchcraft throughout history, some even using it for healing."
"True, witchcraft declined over time, but that doesn't mean it vanished completely. As far as I know, many reclusive families in this country have preserved these traditions through generations. Among them, there are likely those who still practice witchcraft."
After Candice's explanation, Knox felt profoundly shaken.
"It's unbelievable that such things actually exist."
Unlike Knox's shock, Brandon's expression remained calm, clearly indicating he was already familiar with this information.
Seeing his reaction, Candice wasn't surprised.
After all, the Obelon family wasn't ordinary—they were an elite dynasty that had persisted for countless generations.
Just like her own family, the Mortimers, a medical dynasty with hundreds of years of history.
But that was something better left unsaid.
After briefly explaining to them, Candice looked at Brandon with curiosity. "Mr. Obelon, who did you offend? Someone's using this insidious method to harm you."
Both Brandon and Knox remained silent, creating a momentarily heavy atmosphere.
Candice didn't press further. "From what I can tell, this witchcraft has been residing in your body for quite some time! It's becoming increasingly adapted to your system, which is why it's growing more active. That's the reason your eyesight is progressively worsening."
Although Candice held no particular fondness for Brandon, her ex-husband, from a medical perspective, she found this method of harming someone utterly despicable and vicious.
Ordinary people affected by witchcraft remained completely unaware. Even if they noticed something wrong with their bodies and sought medical help, the cause remained elusive.
Those skilled in witchcraft could inflict harm and death imperceptibly.
Conventional science and medicine typically couldn't identify the true cause of death.
Candice silently observed Brandon, realizing whoever targeted him clearly wanted him dead.
Brandon naturally reached the same conclusion.
However, his thoughts went deeper than Candice's.
Witchcraft requires physical contact to be implanted in someone's body.
Ordinary people wouldn't have the opportunity to target him this way—only those close to him would.
Years ago, when he was ambushed, his people investigated everyone except those in his inner circle.
Contemplating who might have betrayed him, Brandon's aura grew even colder.
He asked Candice, "Since you can identify it as witchcraft, do you have a solution?"
Knox also looked eagerly at Candice. "Yes, Dr. Mandy, can you treat this? And what effects does this witchcraft have on Mr. Obelon? Will there be any lasting complications? When will his eyesight improve? Is his life in danger?"
Knox's barrage of questions was overwhelming. Candice didn't know which to answer first.
She opted for simplicity, "Of course I can treat his condition, but it will take time."
Brandon's expression remained unchanged as he nodded slightly, then asked, "How long?"
Candice replied, "Two months at most, or a month and a half at minimum."
This meant that not only could she not avoid Brandon, but she would need to actively see him daily to treat his condition!
Those ten billion dollars wouldn't come easily, that was certain.
Brandon seemed dissatisfied with the timeframe, frowning. "That long?"
"What did you expect?"
Candice gave him a sidelong glance. "That's actually quite fast. The witchcraft in your body has already established itself. Removing it directly isn't really possible."
"This thing can move freely throughout your body. Modern medicine simply can't pinpoint its exact location. Besides, human tissues are incredibly complex—even if we could locate the witchcraft precisely, forcibly removing it would damage your body."
"You'd suffer from blood and energy deficiency, not to mention disruption to your overall health."
Knox, listening nearby, was terrified.
He hadn't realized it was so complicated.
He carefully asked, "Then, Dr. Mandy, how can we eliminate this witchcraft without harming Mr. Obelon's body?"
Candice explained, "Witchcraft is completely different from ordinary illness—it can't be fixed with medication or injections! I'll need to use specialized treatment methods to eradicate it!"
