Chapter 17 This Woman, Really Underestimated Her
Brandon's eyes couldn't see, but he was more convinced than ever that Candice had done this deliberately. His expression darkened with annoyance.
He'd always despised people getting too close, especially women with ulterior motives!
He had really underestimated her!
When Knox was here earlier, her tone had been deliberately cold and distant.
Now that Knox had stepped away, she couldn't help revealing her true colors.
"Did you do that on purpose?"
Brandon propped himself up, gritting his teeth, "You may be treating me, but there's no other possibility between us. I advise you not to get any ideas! Save yourself the disappointment!"
Candice had barely recovered when she heard these words, and she couldn't help but laugh in disbelief.
After several years apart, when had Brandon turned into such a narcissist?
What other thoughts could she possibly have about him?
Candice snapped back, "You're really overthinking this. If you hadn't suddenly pulled me down, making me lose my balance, would I be in this position? Rest assured, even if I were desperate, I wouldn't go after a blind man like you!"
When Brandon heard the word 'blind,' his handsome face darkened to the point it could have dripped water.
He hadn't even said anything, yet she was turning the tables on him!
Brandon's voice came out like ice, "Get off!"
He couldn't tolerate another second and reached out instinctively to push her away.
Unfortunately, unable to see, his hand landed directly on Candice's chest.
Brandon froze instantly, as if turned to stone.
Candice was equally stunned, not processing what had happened, staring dumbly at his long fingers.
The air seemed to solidify, leaving only the sound of their breathing.
Brandon could clearly feel her presence, her breath. She carried a pleasant herbal scent that seemed oddly familiar. Where had he smelled it before?
He searched his memory.
Candice, seeing he still hadn't removed his hand, grew furious.
Slapping his hand away, she scolded angrily, "Who's showing their true colors now? I think you're faking your blindness! You deliberately spilled the water, pulled me down, and now you're taking advantage of me. You pervert! Have you no shame?"
After her outburst, Candice struggled to get up.
With half her body still sprawled across him, she needed leverage to push herself up. In her flustered state, her hand once again pressed against Brandon's thigh.
Brandon's expression changed completely.
Was she trying to get herself killed?
Knox, having finished his call, rushed back and pushed open the door, only to be greeted by this scene. His expression nearly cracked.
I must have opened the door wrong!
Otherwise, how could he be seeing Dr. Mandy and Brandon in an embrace, with their hands in such awkward places?
Knox muttered to himself as he turned away, quickly closing the door before opening it again. Yet the scene remained unchanged.
Knox stood frozen in place.
Could someone please tell him what was happening?
He'd only stepped away for a moment, and somehow Brandon and Mandy were lying together in such a compromising position?
Should he pretend not to see and leave them alone? Or should he interrupt?
While Knox hesitated, Brandon reached his limit, his tone radiating undisguised anger, "Are you getting up or not?"
Candice felt mortified beyond words.
She truly hadn't done it intentionally.
But she knew Brandon wouldn't believe her if she said so.
She hurriedly moved her hand away as if burned.
Afraid to make another wrong move, she pressed against his shoulders and quickly extracted herself.
Once they were separated, Candice's face showed pure frustration. She could have chopped off her own hand for where it had landed!
Of all places, why did it have to be...
There was no way to explain this away!
Brandon didn't say anything.
He sat up straight with furrowed brows, tugging at the hem of his shirt to cover the embarrassing area. His expression was dark, his emotions turbulent.
His self-control had always been legendary, yet now, he'd had a physical reaction to a woman whose face he couldn't even see!
Brandon was furious, his entire being radiating a dangerous aura.
Knox, realizing this was all a misunderstanding and feeling the pressure of Brandon's anger, finally broke the awkward silence, "Dr. Mandy, I've got the information you requested. Please take a look!"
Hearing this, Candice immediately composed herself, pushing the embarrassing incident to the back of her mind.
She responded coolly, "Let me see."
Taking the documents Knox handed her, she quickly reviewed them.
The content wasn't extensive, and after examining the data, it confirmed her suspicions.
"Just as I thought," she murmured.
Knox heard her and eagerly asked, "Dr. Mandy, have you discovered something?"
Candice nodded, closing the file and looking at Brandon with a complex expression.
"I've indeed found the source of the problem."
Unlike other doctors, her words made Knox's expression light up with excitement. "Really? Dr. Mandy, what exactly is Mr. Obelon's condition? How can it be treated? Is it really caused by that poison?"
He fired several questions in succession.
Candice took a deep breath and answered, "Yes and no."
Seeing Knox's anxious gaze, Candice continued, "To put it simply, his blindness isn't caused by any conventional eye condition. It's because he's under a curse!"
"What?"
Hearing this, Knox's expression faltered. "What's a curse?"
It was the first time he'd heard of such a thing!
Brandon seemed to recall something, his brows furrowing deeply as he asked, "This curse you speak of is it the kind that's been lost for hundreds of years?"
