Chapter 151 The Misunderstanding Was Cleared Up, But My Wife Was Gone
But now that Brandon was sober, such thoughts naturally faded away.
He rubbed his temples, got out of bed, and said in an indifferent tone, "I wasn't thinking clearly last night, so I did some inappropriate things. But it won't happen again."
Candice said irritably, "You weren't just inappropriate last night! You also made baseless accusations against me!"
Brandon frowned and looked back at her. "Accusations? What did I accuse you of?"
Candice got angry just thinking about it and said huffily, "What ambiguous relationship? Brandon, which eye of yours saw me having an ambiguous relationship? You came in and started picking on me for no reason. It's completely ridiculous!"
Since returning to the Mortimer family, Candice had never been wronged like this.
Besides, during her time in Seaside City, apart from Brandon, she had kept a safe social distance from other men.
Not only did he take advantage of her, but he also pinned such a serious accusation on her.
It would be a lie to say Candice wasn't angry!
When Brandon heard her bring this up, his expression soured again.
His tone was full of sarcasm as he said, "You don't? Wasn't it your lover who smoothed everything over for the Mortimer Group this time?"
Candice looked at Brandon in disbelief.
Was he still drunk?
How dare he keep talking nonsense!
She got angry and shot back, "What lover? Can you stop making things up? That's my..."
She was about to say, "That's my brother."
But before she finished, her brain suddenly caught up.
So that night, Brandon stormed out because of this?
Because he heard her acting cute with Ulysses, he misunderstood that she had an ambiguous relationship.
Candice's expression was beyond words.
She looked at Brandon and said, "Brandon, you sure have quite the imagination. Does every man have to be my lover? Can't he be my friend or brother or something? What do you take me for?"
She laughed coldly, "Do you think I'm like you, a player?"
Hearing this, Brandon's emotions fluctuated considerably.
So what she meant was that the man wasn't her lover?
Just a friend?
With this thought, all the gloom in his heart seemed to suddenly clear away.
But then his expression darkened again.
He asked unhappily, "How am I a player?"
Candice scoffed, "Right! You're not a player! You're just someone who could marry anyone! And you have quite a few candidates—Vesper, Elijah's mom, who gave birth to your child, and who knows how many socialites!"
"And you have the nerve to call me a player! You're the real player here!"
Candice got angrier as she spoke.
What was the point of discussing this with Brandon?
It was a complete waste of time.
So she turned around angrily and left, clearly not wanting to talk to him anymore.
She slammed the door too, returning the favor!
Brandon listened to the loud noise, raised his eyebrows, and then felt helpless.
Who could have known things were like this?
But it wasn't entirely his fault either.
If anyone was to blame, it should be Candice and that man's attitude toward her.
He had never spoken to her so intimately. After knowing her for so long, he'd never seen her act cute with him.
Thinking about this, Brandon's mood was still quite unpleasant!
Later, after washing up and changing clothes, Candice had breakfast with the two children.
As for Brandon, Finnian had the Obelon family send over clean clothes for him early in the morning.
When he came out after changing, both little ones looked at him in surprise.
Yasmin couldn't help but ask, "Brandon, when did you get here?"
Brandon looked at her, his tone softening unconsciously, "Very late last night. You and Elijah were both asleep."
"I see!" Yasmin nodded without probing further and politely greeted him, "Then come quickly, let's have breakfast together!"
After the horseback riding and ice cream last time, she still had a good impression of Brandon!
As for Elijah beside her, although his attitude toward Brandon wasn't warm, he was quite satisfied.
Candice had taken Brandon in again—it seemed the tense relationship between them was thawing.
He immediately felt happy.
But before he could be happy for long, he heard Candice look at Brandon coldly and say in an unhappy tone, "Did I ask you to sit down? There's no breakfast for you."
Brandon calmly replied, "I can share a portion with Elijah!"
Candice said coldly, "Elijah's breakfast is exactly one portion. Do you want him to go hungry? Also, are you taking him home later? If so, I'll have Orla pack his things now."
Elijah looked completely confused.
What was going on?
He was staying at Candice's house just fine, why would he go back?
He looked at Brandon unhappily.
Brandon paused, vaguely recalling last night's events.
Because he had misunderstood her and was drunk, he had wanted to take Elijah home.
Now that the misunderstanding was cleared up, he naturally wouldn't take Elijah away.
His expression remained calm as he said cooperatively, "I don't know what you're talking about. When did I say I was taking him away?"
Candice said, "What?"
She was shocked by Brandon's shamelessness!
How could he act so innocent with a straight face?
She said through gritted teeth, "Last night, you were completely drunk and kept saying you wanted to take Elijah home!"
After hearing this, Elijah's little face puffed up angrily and asked, "Dad, did you drink last night?"
Brandon couldn't hide it, so he said, "Yes, I had a little."
Candice scoffed and exposed him bluntly from the side, "You were completely out of it. It was way more than a little."
Elijah glared at Brandon angrily.
After glaring, Elijah looked at Candice carefully, his eyes full of panic.
He didn't want to go back. He didn't want to leave her.
Brandon received Elijah's look and understood it was his fault, so he immediately said, "You said yourself that I was drunk last night. You can't trust what a drunk person says!"
"Elijah hasn't fully recovered yet. He'll continue staying here. You wouldn't just abandon him, right?"
Candice laughed coldly without responding.
Elijah couldn't help but worry.
Would Candice really send him away?
Suddenly, the breakfast in front of him didn't seem appetizing anymore.
Elijah looked at Brandon with even more resentment.
No wonder people online said drinking caused problems.
It really was true.
He thought Brandon had finally been reliable for once.
Turned out he was still unreliable!
