Chapter Eighteen — Choose Him Over Me
Will’s POV:
After Irene stormed out of my office when I confessed my feelings to her, Megan showed up crying, I thought she heard all I said to Irene but she didn’t, instead she started talking about how her father was sick and how she was really scared and couldn’t stand anything happening to him. so I couldn’t tell her anything about ending the relationship.
While it was closing hours I bumped into Davis and then the thought of how he was with Irene during the meeting crossed my mind so I told him I wanted to see him, I was hoping he would say yes so I could tell him to back off Irene because she was mine, but he replied telling me he had a date to prepare for. I was very curious and asked who he was going on a date with and he mentioned Irene’s name. I scoffed, I couldn’t believe it. So it was all because of this Davis guy she couldn’t bring herself to like me. I asked for the venue of where he was going and told him I have been looking for a nice place to take my ‘fiancé’ to and thankfully he told me. I wanted to see if it was true, maybe he was only lying, but to my surprise he walked into the restaurant holding hands with Irene, and she was looking as beautiful as ever.
I was angry and filled with lots of rage, and when I noticed she was looking over at Megan and me, I pretended we were really in love and fed her from my own meal. I know it was a childish act, but then there were no rules about to how to react after a heartbreak. Megan and I finished our meal hours before them, but I kept ordering for more food. I just wanted to buy time until they left. There was no way I was going to leave when both of them were still here. That was why I had gotten here as early as possible, so I wouldn’t miss out on anything they were going to do. I was really in love with Irene, and I couldn’t stand seeing her with another Man. Love makes you do stupid things.
I had been still somehow hoping there was nothing serious between them until Davis came to my office this morning and said he needed brotherly advice. He asked me what to do next after a girl says yes. I wanted to scream at him and ask which girl but he was obviously talking about Irene. I can’t believe she would choose him over me. I was furious and the only thing on my mind after he left was to come up with something that would make Irene think that the only person I was in love with was Megan. I called her office line immediately and she answered.
“Hey Meg, can you come over?” I asked.
“Yeah, sure” she replied.
“What’s going on?” she asked as she got to my office.
“I want us to have our engagement party as soon as possible,” I said.
The look on her face was filled with shock. She knows how much I wasn’t ready to get married because I didn’t have feelings for her but she didn’t ask any questions and agreed immediately.
“How soon do you want it?” she said.
“Maybe in the next three weeks. But we should announce it to everyone at work today, so pick any random date that falls within three weeks' time,” I replied.
“Okay. That would be the 17th of next month” she said as she stared at her phone.
“Great” I replied.
I know I was doing the wrong thing, every part of me knew it. But I was just really angry I couldn’t deal with the fact that Irene doesn’t love me and chose Davis over me.
Megan and I agreed to call everyone in the department for an urgent announcement. People who were not close to the hall were we had important announcements didn’t have to come they just had to turn on their TV while it was being covered.
It was few minutes to closing hours and also time for us to tell everyone. After those who were close by made it to the hall—of course Irene was one of them—we started to make the announcement.
After we were done speaking everyone was happy and kept jamming their hands together. I saw the pale look on Irene’s face. I guess she was sad I’m not the fool she thought I was.
