Chapter 34 Rejection
Ryan's POV
“She said it was an emergency and she'd be back today. No need to worry Ryan” Mum told me as I tried Lily's number for the nth time.
“It's already noon and she's not yet back. What if something went wrong?” I replied overwhelmed with worry
I've known Lily for years now and ever since she had been my crush but I didn't know how to tell her.
She saw me as her brother, junior brother perhaps but I wanted more.
Maybe, just maybe it was my confession that made her disappear just like that.
I decided to track her location.
I entered my car and drove towards the location.
It was a luxurious mansion, very luxurious that one would at first sight imagine the caliber of the family.
What would she doing here? One mind told me to drive back but out of curiosity, I knocked.
The gate opened and I stood dazed.
It was the same guy that Lily had issues with. What the hell was she doing at his house?
The guy recognized me immediately and bathed me with his eyes. I couldn't describe the expression in his eyes.
Yet, I picked up the courage and spoke
“Where's Lily?”
“Any problem?” He replied coldly
“I just wanted to check on her, she had an emergency yesterday so I'm just worried why she's not yet back”
“Back to where?” he asked
“Home, my house” I said confidently and I noticed a flicker of Jealousy across his face.
“Who exactly are you?” He asked
“Can you atleast let me in?” I responded
After some hesitation, he left the gate and motioned for me to go move inside
I entered inside and I wouldn't deny that the elagantness threw me off balance and I wondered if Lily choose this guy because if his wealth.
Just then Lily sighted me from afar and ran outside.
“What are you doing here Ryan?” She asked looking so shocked
“Since yesterday and yet youre not back. We were all worried” I said
“How did you know I was here?” She asked lowering her voice
“I tracked your number, that was the only way I could reach you” I replied
“You shouldn't have!” She said
“Who's he baby?” Wade asked, wrapping his hands round her waist and my stomach twisted into a million knots.
“He’s just my friend” Lily said firmly and my heart stopped
Just a friend?! Is that all I've been to her all these while?
I opened my mouth and tried to speak but nothing came out.
Wade sneered at me and lifted his upper lip.
“Wade, please give us some private time together?” Lily told him and he nodded slowly leaving a kiss on her cheek.
Lily didn't resist, neither did she flinch instead she smiled with her eyes and all I felt was regret.
“I loved you, I did many things for you and this, this is how you pay me back?” I said calmly, suppressing the urge to scream
“It's a long story Ryan, trust me” she replied
I took a deep breath and pulled myself together.
“What was the emergency about?” I asked gently
“My mum slumped and her blindness got worse” she said
“What!”
“You don't have to worry, Mr Gambino has taken care of the situation.” She said
“Mr Gambino?” I asked, a bit confused
“Wade's father” she dropped the bombshell
“His father?!” I almost screamed but I comported my self and asked gently
“Don't lie to me, who is he to you?”
“It's complicated Ryan, if not ridiculous. I work here, I work for the Gambino's family”
“You quitted your job”
“I resumed”
“Why? Why would it have to be here?”
“Get yourself together Ryan, I appreciate all you did for me but we can never be together”
My hands quivered and I looked at her dazed and shocked by the rejection.
“Why?” I asked slowly, my voice cracking at the end
“I'm sorry, I just can't. You have to get going now”
“Lily?”
“Start going Ryan, I don't want to mess up with my job.”
“But I love you, we can live a better life aside all of this. We would be happy together, have you forgotten the good times we spent together?”
“Not half as much good time I spent with Wade “ she said and tears rolled down my cheek “look Ryan, you really should focus on your life for now. Start going, you're mum maybe worried about you” she said icily
I listened to hear empathy or warmth in her voice but it was so empty and cold, freezingly cold that I almost blacked out. And without any more word, I turned around and left the house.
