Chapter 91

In the dimly lit, tension-filled room, Henry's words hit like a bomb, echoing in everyone's ears.

Everyone was stunned, their eyes wide with disbelief.

They always knew that the life they chose, a life of crime, was dangerous.

From the moment they stepped onto this path, their lives were hanging by a thread, ready to be lost at any moment.

But even with this mental preparation, it didn't mean they weren't afraid of dying.

Especially after the gunshot, fear spread like wildfire among Rob's men.

They became frantic, their eyes filled with terror and confusion, their bodies trembling uncontrollably.

Some paced back and forth, muttering to themselves.

Others gripped their weapons tightly, their knuckles white from the pressure.

Rob, as their leader, knew all too well that if they panicked at this critical moment, the consequences would be dire.

His face darkened instantly, like the sky before a storm, and he shouted, "Don't freak out! What the hell are you panicking for? We're already here, so start thinking of a plan!"

His voice was deep and powerful, cutting through the chaos and reaching everyone's ears.

Carl's face was pale with fear, sweat dripping from his forehead. He stammered, "What can we do, Mr. Turner? There's a traitor among us. We can't escape."

His voice was tinged with desperation, his eyes filled with hopelessness, as if he could already see himself being captured by the police.

Rob spat on the ground, as if making a difficult decision.

A look of determination flashed in his eyes. "Drop your weapons and run. Split up and go as far as you can."

"That's betraying our comrades!"

Carl instinctively rejected the idea, his eyes wide with shock and disapproval.

He couldn't believe that Rob, who had always been loyal to his comrades, would make such a decision at this moment.

However, when Rob's sharp gaze swept over him, Carl was too scared to speak further. He silently dropped his weapon to the ground.

All of this stemmed from Sophia's gunshot.

In the darkness, they had no idea how many police officers were out there.

Was it just one person lying in wait, or were they surrounded by a whole squad?

They didn't dare to gamble on the uncertain outcome, because if they lost, death awaited them.

So, they quickly followed Rob's orders.

The group, which had been huddled together, scattered like frightened animals into the narrow, dark alley, each heading in different directions. The sounds of footsteps and shouts intertwined.

At that moment, Rob saw Henry and Gary trying to leave with the others. He stopped them with a look.

Clearly, because Henry and Gary had saved his life earlier, he no longer suspected them.

Once his men had mostly dispersed and the surroundings quieted down, Rob turned to Henry and Gary, lowering his voice, "Come with me."

His voice was low.

"What? No way, man. My buddy just saved you. You're not gonna betray us, are you?" Gary's face was filled with panic as he asked loudly.

Henry interrupted Gary, looking calmly at Rob. "How sure are you?"

His eyes showed caution. In such a dangerous situation, he needed to understand Rob's plan before deciding whether to follow him.

"Can't say for sure, but with them as a distraction, we have at least a fifty-fifty chance."

Rob spoke as he started walking in a specific direction, not giving Henry and Gary much time to think.

Henry considered Rob's words briefly, then pulled Gary along to follow Rob.

They navigated through the dark alley, strange noises occasionally echoing around them, making their skin crawl.

After walking about a thousand feet, Henry saw Rob turn into a dilapidated house.

The house looked like it could collapse at any moment, its walls marked by the passage of time.

In one corner, there was a stone slab covering something. Rob stopped and said, "Move it."

Henry exchanged a hesitant glance with Gary.

But given the circumstances, they had no better option, so they complied.

It took a lot of effort to move the heavy stone slab.

Underneath, a dark hole was revealed, emitting a damp, musty smell.

Rob, seemingly worried that Henry and Gary might not trust him, led the way into the hole without hesitation.

Once Rob's figure disappeared into the darkness, Henry pulled Gary along, cautiously descending the steps.

The steps were covered in moss and very slippery. They had to be extremely careful with each step to avoid falling.

When they finally reached the bottom, Gary realized what they had done.

He thought about how Rob had chosen not to take any of his other comrades but had brought them instead.

This realization sent a chill down Gary's spine.

"You planned to escape alone from the start, didn't you?"

Gary was shocked, his eyes wide as he looked at Rob, his voice filled with disbelief.

Rob's face was cold, a hint of displeasure in his eyes. "What else? You want me to die with them?"

His voice was icy and resolute, echoing in the dark cave.

He then lit a nearby torch, the flames crackling, casting flickering light on his stern face.

Only then did Henry fully see their surroundings.

It turned out that this seemingly insignificant well connected to an underground water source.

The sound of flowing water was clear in the silent cave, the torchlight reflecting off the water's surface.

This meant that following this passage might lead them to an exit.

Henry didn't hesitate any longer and followed Rob.

Gary was reluctant, still questioning Rob's motives.

But seeing Henry and Rob moving away, he knew that if he didn't follow, he might get lost in the dark cave. He gritted his teeth and followed.

In the vast passage, their footsteps soon echoed.

The surroundings were pitch black, with only the faint torchlight illuminating a small area ahead.

They carefully avoided obstacles, vigilantly observing their surroundings, fearing any sudden danger.

After what felt like an eternity, they finally saw a glimmer of light in the endless darkness.

Though faint, it was a beacon of hope for them.

"It's the exit!" Gary shouted excitedly, his voice filled with joy and excitement.

They quickened their pace towards the light, their hearts filled with anticipation and longing for freedom.
