Chapter 76

After a brief moment of calm, Laura seemed to be wrapped in an icy chill. Her gaze turned cold and sharp, filled with a deadly intent.

She suddenly got up from her seat and started pacing back and forth in the room.

The sound of her hurried footsteps echoed loudly on the floor, each step heavy with her long-suppressed anger and hatred. Her fists were clenched tight, veins bulging slightly on her arms. As she moved, her shadow flickered across the room, distorted under the light.

"Do you remember the first victim, John?" Laura spoke through gritted teeth, each word forced out like it was being squeezed from between her teeth.

Her eyes gleamed with a fierce intensity.

"He was the one who uploaded the video of my sister being raped by them!" Her voice trembled uncontrollably, filled with uncontainable sorrow and rage.

She continued, "So, I chose him as the first to avenge."

A cold, vengeful smile tugged at the corner of her mouth, a smile that sent chills down one's spine.

Laura stopped pacing, her eyes filled with disgust, as if just mentioning this person made her sick. "Next was Wayne, the planner from the bar. He was the pimp back then!"

Her tone was full of disdain. "Rolf from the NB organization decided to sell my sister, and his brother Philip suggested satisfying his filthy desires before selling her. Then they contacted John to film the video of my sister being raped."

Laura's fists tightened further, her knuckles turning white from the pressure.

"The filming location was provided by the bar owner, while his wife was responsible for collecting the fees. After the incident, they sold my sister to Wayne. None of them were innocent; they were all monsters!" Laura's emotions grew increasingly intense, her arms waving, her voice rising, filling the room with her fury.

Henry sat quietly, listening to Laura's story, his heart churning with turmoil.

He looked at the woman consumed by hatred before him, feeling both sympathy for her tragic experience and helplessness towards her extreme actions.

He frowned slightly, a mix of emotions flickering in his eyes, and gestured to the phone in his hand, asking, "Do you want me to make all these recordings public?"

"Yes, you must do it. Your partner needs them." Laura replied without hesitation, her gaze fixed firmly on Henry, as if this was an unquestionable matter. "And I have a file detailing the entire organization's intelligence. Isn't that why you came to talk to me?"

She bluntly revealed Henry's intentions, her tone carrying a hint of mockery, as if ridiculing their difficult pursuit of the truth.

Henry couldn't help but sigh, saying, "You're very straightforward."

A hint of admiration flashed in his eyes. Despite the circumstances, Laura's candidness was indeed surprising.

Laura remarked, "Alright, let's continue. Once we're done, you can compile the content."

Her expression was oddly serene, as if the harsh past she had just described had nothing to do with her, as if she were merely a bystander.Henry sat there, quietly listening to Laura's story, jotting down key details on his phone.

The room was eerily silent, with only Laura's voice and the soft clicks of Henry's phone breaking the stillness.

As time went on, Henry started feeling really hungry, like an invisible hand was squeezing his stomach.

Finally, his stomach growled loudly, shattering the silence.

Henry looked at Laura awkwardly and asked, "Do you want to eat something? I can go get it for you."

He tried to lighten the mood a bit.

"I can order delivery," Laura said, pointing to the takeout phone nearby without even looking up, her gaze still icy.

Henry was speechless, not expecting such a cold response.

Considering her current state, he decided to let it go.

"Goodbye." Henry waved reluctantly, then wheeled himself slowly out of the room.

In the hallway, he saw Sophia asleep on a chair.

Sophia looked exhausted, her brows furrowed like she was worried about the case even in her sleep.

Her hair was a mess, and her usually strong expression looked worn out.

Seeing this, Henry felt a pang of sympathy. He walked quietly over, not wanting to wake her, and carefully took off his jacket to cover her, hoping to keep her warm.

Just as Henry's jacket was about to touch Sophia, she suddenly seemed terrified in her dream, shouting, "No! Don't leave me!"

She struggled violently, her hands flailing, her face full of fear.

Henry quickly reached out to hold her, asking with concern, "What's wrong? Must've been a bad dream to scare you like this."

His voice was gentle, full of worry.

"Yeah, I dreamt of my family dying," Sophia said, her eyes instantly reddening, tears welling up.

She seemed trapped in that nightmare, unable to escape.

Seeing Henry's face so close, Sophia suddenly remembered and urgently asked, "Did you get the stuff?"

Her eyes were full of hope, like this answer was her only lifeline.

"Yeah, I got everything." Henry proudly shook his phone, a satisfied smile on his face. "We can close the case."

Hearing this, Sophia finally felt relieved, letting out a big sigh.

As her tension eased, a wave of fatigue hit her again, making her eyelids heavy.

Seeing this, Henry immediately took out his phone and called Frank, asking him to come pick them up.

On the other end, Frank couldn't help but tease, "Such a good opportunity, Mr. Martin, aren't you going to do something? Are you guys going to have a platonic relationship?"

"Just come quickly," Henry replied briefly, not in the mood for jokes.

After hanging up, Frank at the police station shook his head helplessly, saying to Kate, "Great, I have to pick them up again. Why am I always the one getting stuck with this?"

He complained as he reluctantly grabbed his car keys and headed towards the hospital.
