Chapter 75

Sophia's finger hovered over the trigger, her eyes glued to the scope, watching Laura and Henry.

Her breath came faster, her heart pounding like it was about to leap out of her chest.

The air around her felt like ice, every second stretching into an eternity.

Right now, Sophia was laser-focused on those two, not missing a single move or expression.

But Henry never gave her the signal to take out Laura.

When Sophia saw Laura escorting Henry back to his room through the scope, she knew Henry had made the right call.

The tension in her heart slowly eased.

Sophia let go of the trigger, took a deep breath, and stood up, slinging the sniper rifle over her shoulder.

As she climbed down from the rooftop, she started thinking about how to question Laura.

Sophia realized Laura was the key to the case, and she needed to get more useful information from her.

However, when Sophia was about to interrogate Laura in the specially arranged room at the hospital, Laura insisted on being questioned only by Henry and asked for a more relaxed setting.

Sophia glanced at Laura, her brow slightly furrowed, showing a hint of frustration.

Sophia knew that pushing Laura might backfire, so she reluctantly agreed.

Henry gave Sophia a reassuring look before following Laura back to the room.

Laura sat on the bed, leaning slightly forward, her eyes showing a mix of relief and exhaustion.

She took a deep breath and started recounting the whole case. "There are two personalities within me. Often, you can't find evidence against me because my outer personality doesn't remember what happened. But the deeper personality knows how to control the main self."

Laura's voice was soft but carried undeniable strength.

Henry squinted slightly, carefully watching Laura's expression, and asked, "So your surface personality's relationship with John was your design?"

Laura's lips curled into a smug smile. "Yeah, John was a creep. I used online photos to make him target my surface personality, then guided him through social media until he let his guard down."

Laura's eyes flashed with disdain for John.

"And then you successfully infiltrated the NB organization?" Henry continued, keeping his gaze steady on Laura's face as he looked for any subtle changes in her expression.

Laura shook her head lightly. "No, by that time, I was already in the NB organization. I joined through the dark web."

Her tone was calm, like she was discussing something mundane.Henry's questions kept coming, trying to piece together the truth. "So, how did you get in touch with Rolf?"

"Through a chatroom on the dark web," Laura said, pouring herself a glass of water and taking a sip. "I showcased my talents and my special interest in human dissection. I pretended to be a pathological patient looking for ways to obtain corpses, and he reached out to me."

"And then?" Henry asked, keeping his voice steady, trying to stay calm and encourage Laura to keep talking.

"To gain his trust, I acted in a way that reassured him," Laura's eyes became vacant, lost in memories. "Then came the revenge plan. After I assisted him with several blood transfusion surgeries, he began to trust me more and more. At that point, I suggested filming these procedures and posting them on the dark web to help ease his concerns."

"He hesitated for a moment but agreed." Laura looked up at Henry with a cold, detached expression, like she was recounting a story that had nothing to do with her. But the more Henry listened, the more horrifying it became. In Laura's words, human lives seemed like mere pawns to achieve her goals.

Despite his psychological training and understanding of such extreme mindsets, Henry found it emotionally tough to accept. From a professional standpoint, he kept his emotions in check and continued to listen as a neutral observer.

"What happened after you won his trust?" Henry asked, his voice quivering slightly, unsure of the shocking revelations Laura might reveal next.

Laura remarked, "After that, I learned a lot about NB, understanding that their forum was part of a vast network involving drug trafficking, pornography, torture, and organ transplants. My sister's death was the beginning of their crimes."

Her face was etched with pain, her eyes overflowing with hatred and sorrow. "The day my sister died was the day their organization was established."

As she spoke, seemingly adrift in a painful memory, she gripped her hair tightly. "My sister had a rare blood type. When Rolf from NB approached the orphanage director with a hefty sum, they made the decision to sell my sister..."

Laura broke down, tears streaming down her face, dripping onto the bed.

Henry softly reassured her, "It's all in the past."

His voice was gentle as he tried to comfort the woman tormented by her hatred and pain.

"Yes, it's all in the past, but some people can never come back." Laura wiped her tears and after a moment, continued, "From that moment, I decided that everyone involved would pay in blood."

Her eyes flared with hatred, and her tone turned steady and resolute.
