Chapter 103 Till the Day I Die

Chapter 103 Till the Day I Die
Soraya

I lay on the bed, still without clothes. My body was warm, and I really didn’t want to get dressed right now. I enjoyed being like this.

Evander walked in, dressed in a fluffy robe. His hair was wet and—God—it looked so silky, falling over his shoulders.

I loved seeing him like this. He looked breathtaking and, frankly, more handsome than I had ever seen him before. But every time I saw Evander, he always looked handsome—always a little different.

He stood by the side of the bed.

“Would you like something to eat?”

“That was intense,” I said with a smile. “I would like you.”

“Whoa,” he replied. “Looks like you’re becoming even more feisty than I’ve ever seen.”

I laughed. “It’s been months. I haven’t had you for months. I haven’t seen your body. We haven’t even talked… and I’ve missed your touch more than anything else, so pardon me if I want you for lunch, dinner, breakfast.”

“Well,” he said, smiling in that charming way he always did, “I am so glad you enjoyed me.”

I sat up, pulling the blanket to my chest. “Didn’t you enjoy me?” I tilted my head slightly, looking at him like a shy kid.

“You have no idea.”

He sat down on the bed, pulling me in and placing his lips on mine softly.

“I really wish everything could just be perfect like this. I just want us to be stuck in this moment, just enjoying each other’s company,” he said, and I could hear the sadness in his voice.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing,” he said, “but I just want this moment to be forever.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck. “It is forever—you and me. We are forever. And I know things may not be perfect now, but things are surely going to get better, and we are going to have our happy ever after. Because you are my life, and I don’t want to exist in a world where you are not in it.”

He smiled. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” I replied quickly.

“Sarah’s burial is this weekend.”

The moment those words left his mouth, my heart skipped a painful beat, and he heard it.

“Breathe, baby, breathe, okay?”

I nodded quickly.

“Her mother actually came by today.”

What happened to Sarah was something that haunted me so much, and even though it had been several months, I still hadn’t gotten over it.

“You know, if you don’t want to be in attendance, it’s fine.”

I shook my head. “No. Everybody thinks I’m responsible for her death, and me missing her burial is going to prove that. So I would love to go, at least to say my goodbyes once and for all. Because I never got to know her. I never got to be close to her, but if what happened hadn’t happened… we would have been good friends. I’m sure of that.”

He nodded, pressing his forehead to mine.

“What about Cole?” I asked.

“I also want to give his body to his family. They deserve that closure—seeing their child laid to rest in peace.”

“What about the real killer?”

I could see the worry on Evander’s face. He hated failing people, and the fact that he couldn’t find the person responsible—it was eating at him.

“I don’t know,” he said. “But whatever it takes, I am going to give Cole and Sarah justice. Because they deserve it. They didn’t deserve to die. They had their lives ahead of them.”

His jaw tightened.

“And whatever monster is responsible for this… will suffer. I’ll make sure of it.”

Evander left the room. He went to the kitchen to prepare some soup for me.

I couldn’t believe my problem was actually looking for a dress to make me look perfect for a dance that Sarah would never get the chance to attend. She would never get the chance to find her mate, never fall in love. It just broke my heart so much, and the pain shot through my body.

All I wanted was just to tell her how sorry I was. I should have been there to protect her. It should have never happened to her. She was such a sweet soul, even though I didn’t get to know her for long.

I got out of bed, got into the robe that Evander had placed on the bed for me, then walked to the kitchen.

I saw him behind the stove, and I didn’t step closer. I just stood by the wall. He saw me and smiled.

Such an amazing soul Evander was.

And all this while he hadn’t been with me, I couldn’t help but wonder what exactly he had gone through in the hands of those demonic people and the amount of pain he must have felt.

He stirred the soup in the pot, and I walked slowly towards him, pulling him into a hug from behind.

“Hey,” he said softly. “What’s going on?”

“Shh,” I whispered, placing my head on his back. “I love you. I love you. I love you so much.”

“Do you think it’s right for me to go to the dance?”

He turned around. “Why are you asking? Of course it’s right. Why wouldn’t you attend?”

“Evander, after everything that has happened, maybe I should just sit this one out.”

He cupped my face in his hands. “Baby, you and I are going to that dance, and we are going to have the time of our lives. Because I just realized that the more time we spend apart, the more time passes by. Every moment we spend together, good or bad, it’s a memory, and it counts for something.”

“I know that.”

Then I placed my head on his chest. He patted my back gently, his chin resting on my head.

“I know how bad you feel, my love, but I promise you, everything is going to be fine.”

It was the fact that he always had a way with words, always a way to soothe me whenever I was feeling uneasy.

And what did I do?

I always found a way to bring him trouble. It was always a mess when it came to me. Always.

There was never a time where Evander could actually feel peace. I felt like I caused that.

“You know, sometimes I just wish I could go back in time.”

“Why?” he asked.

“I would change everything about us meeting. I would make sure our lives are perfect. And you don't have to worry about me always, or get me out of trouble, or always defend me.”

He moved back just a little, making sure our eyes were locked on each other. “Do you know what would happen if I had magic?”

“What?”

“I would leave everything exactly how it is.”

“Why?”

“Because perfection is just a façade. There is nothing perfect about life, and the way it is designed—that is the best way.”

“But aren't you tired? Aren't you ashamed of people calling me a killer? I don't even have a wolf.”

He smiled. “I can never get tired. I have waited for years, praying that you would come my way, and you finally did. How on earth do you expect me to get tired of you or be ashamed of you? I love you more than life itself, and nothing is going to change that.”

I didn’t have an answer to that because I was speechless, and he saw it.

“I love you, Soraya, with everything in me, and I am always going to love you till the day I die.”
