Chapter 9 : Something Like That

Back in the hospital, Caroline was taking a nap when suddenly she woke up from whatever it felt like. “Death”. She started breathing heavily and looked around. She slowly walked outside her room that she got admitted in and asked a nurse sitting near a desk close to her room, “Excuse me?... Where is everyone?” all confused cuz the hospital is almost cleared out of people. “It’s the middle of the night hon..” the nurse replied. “Is it?” Caroline is in plain confusion at this point.’WHAT IS GOING ON? WHY DOES IT FEEL WEIRD!?’,. “Umm… what about my mom?” “She left with your boyfriend after dinner. And then your friend Elena stopped by.” the nurse replied. “She did?”..’Oh wait …’ “Yeah she did…”.... And then… she got confused even more….”but she said her name was Katherine?!?” The nurse totally ignored her at this point.

There was this weird sense of hunger in her. It was strong. She wants to eat a whole menu…or is it something that she wants to eat…or drink, perhaps?

“Can i get something to eat?” Caroline asked. “Breakfast comes around 7:00” the nurse replied.

“But I’m hungry” Caroline was getting a little impatient at this point. “You should get back to sleep”. The nurse was not giving a fuck anymore. Caroline sighs heavily. She walks back to her room and suddenly stops in her steps. She could smell something funny. “What is that smell?”

She turned around to the nurse who is annoyed. “Back to bed.” The nurse demanded and left.

As Caroline was about to open up her door she got a sense of that smell again which made her curious. ‘You know what? Im gonna follow that smell, kinda smells delicious’. Caroline thought.

She turned around to the direction where she spotted a blood bag next to a patient. When she looked at it… all she wanted to do was to go near it and rip it off and drink it. But why? She thought. She got close to it and tried touching it like a hungry starving kid, amazed by the look of it. Never thought of blood in this way she thought. “What are you doing here?” The nurse suddenly appeared next to her. She got startled and turned around to look at her. “I don’t know?” She replied with a question. “You need to get back to sleep.” The nurse replied and directed her back to her room. Caroline sat on her bed and when the nurse left, she took out the blood bag that she stole from the patient earlier. She held it in her hand and got confused because she doesn't know what she was doing. She tried taking a sip out of it but, it kinda made her wanna puke so she threw the bag on the floor. And then suddenly it hit her senses. She wanted it more. So she jumped back on the floor and grabbed the bag and started drinking it whole. And ripped off the top of the bag and ravaged it like an animal craving from blood.

‘What is going on? ' she kept thinking.

And while drinking the blood she kept getting these memories of the time right before she died?

Wait what? ‘I died’? Caroline thought. Then the memories flooded back to her like a tsunami.

Elena came in to her room claiming that she is Katherine and suffocated her with a pillow after saying “I was hoping you could give a message to the Salvatore brothers” “What message?” “Game on” “What?” Before Caroline could say anything, she passed out and now she is up again. Not just that, all her past memories came flooding back like a wave. What Damon did to her in these past few weeks. She couldn’t believe her mind.

Kate was walking down the side of a river. A meadow at the banks of the river. Such a beautiful spot. She thought. “Dear girl… I was waiting for you back at the house” Kate turned around to look at a nice and soft young girl. Around her age dressed in a gown flowing down to the grass beneath her. Her hair was red like the sky in the evening and eyes were green, just like hers.

Her face had this glow that made even the foulest of creatures to be at peace if they had a single glance at her.

But instead of asking who are you? Kate asked “What happened?”, “What do you mean what happened?” the girl chuckled. “It’s time for the ritual…Come quick” the girl waved at her. Kate followed her without even asking her what or why….

And suddenly she woke up all confused. The sun hit her face so she shifted her eyes to look at the weight that has been on her hand …. It’s another hand! It’s Steven’s hand. And was asleep next to her on a chair holding her hand. She stared at him in confusion. But my god look at that chiseled jawline and that beautiful hair and why the hell is his eyelashes so thick? Does he wear fake lashes? And the sun hit his face when she tried to move from her position. Damn. A sight to see… she thought. When she tried to move, Steven woke up from his sleep. And he was confused for just a sec and then surprised. Looked at her. All messy hair and his eyes were all amber and glowing. “Woah” Kate replied. “What?” Steven asked her in disbelief that he actually slept. AFTER YEARS…HE NEVER SLEEPS… “What the fuck is going on?” He looked at her and then his hands on her… did leave a mark on her hand…. he took his hand back. “What?” Kate was confused and looked straight at the clock.. “Oh my god…. Caroline… I was supposed to meet her at the hospital…” Steven was still sitting on the chair trying to figure out how he slept. Before getting to the bathroom Kate looked back at him and asked “What were you doing here? I mean… did you come over to see if I will try and kill you in my sleep?” Steven looked back at her and exhaled…. Explaining everything would wreck her… cuz I am not sure if its true yet….” Something like that…” He replied.

Kate got out of the shower to find no sign of Steven in her room. “Hmph… thank god he left..” She got ready to leave. Meanwhile, Steven was walking in the library trying to find out how he slept… He took down a bunch of books that mentioned the witch Adama who created him in the past. But all those books mentioned was that she was the mother of another power witch. “How come there is no manners in this house?” Damon stepped in the library looking at a pile of books on the table, floor, chairs…. “See… i gotta tell you something great grandpa…” Steven stared at Damon as if asking him.. “What?” “Katherine is here… and she is annoying… you might not like h…” Before Damon could finish his sentence, Steven replied, “I’ve heard of her Damon. I know how cunning she is” As if he wants to not know more about her. “ Hey, what’s up brother?” Damon was concerned at this point cuz Steven was still ramping through the books to find out something.

“You’re not gonna believe this…” “What?” “I slept.”

Damon stared at him in disbelief …” This is the big news” Even I sleep….”

“No I cannot sleep…I am the only Vampire who cannot sleep. I am cursed in some ways that you don’t know of… and yet I slept.” “I remember something she said after i woke up from death and drank blood, “Now that you chose to be a killer than be killed, you shall not sleep until you find your lover that’d be killed before you could rekindle your feelings for her.” But I slept next to Kate, I’m not sure if I love her and she is not dead…. yet! “What a load of crap?” Damon looked outside the window and looked back at Steven… “That means your one true love Rivera is not her. Not even a bunch of hungry Vampires could touch her..” Damon was posing a possibility where Kate wouldn't be killed. But now he is kind of concerned for her.

“We will see to the end of this to save her… now i gotta get back to Elena cuz Katherine’s out like a wild beast.”

“What???” Kate almost bursted out when she found out that Damon killed Jeremy and he came back to life cuz he was wearing his ring that Ric gave him. “What in the hell?” Kate was losing it before she saw him near the hospital. “You got some nerve to be such a killing machine… how could you do this to Elena?” “You’ve your set of problems to be focusing on…. Leave this….”

“No…!” Damon was frustrated and held her to the side of the building and demanded, “You listen to me… I did that because I already knew that he had that ring on his finger. Now you go and see Caroline before I rip your head off for annoying me.” “Unbelievable Damon, I know you like Elena but there has to be a limit on taking it out on others.” Damon pushed Kate into the building and Vanished.

“Nice… not the end of this conversation…you idiot.” Kate yelled and walked inside the hospital. Matt was already waiting over there with Bonnie to meet Caroline. “I don't know what happened but the doctor said that she recovered pretty quickly over the night.” Bonnie smiled and him then looked at Kate, knowing what had actually happened.

I met her already, you can meet her with Matt if you want to. I have some things to do. Bonnie left the scene leaving her and Matt alone.
