Chapter Two Hundred and Fourteen.
Chapter Two Hundred and Fourteen.
Epilogue 3
Ember's POV:
It was a lot. People around us were on a lot of tension and they were scared to death that I might not make it. They could not even give me an epidural because they said my body will react against it.
To cut it all short, I was able to finally push him out. But I was weak and tired for days on end. When I got all better, after months, I suggested to Asher that I would like another baby. I got to discover that I would like my family to be a big one since I didn't grow up in one myself.
He didn't take it well. He said we won't be having another baby again, that we could adopt and all of that, but I want to have a baby of my own and his own. Since then, he makes sure to be on par with my birth control pills. He made me get an IUD and all of that just to avoid getting me pregnant.
“You seem lost.” I jerked out of my thoughts and looked over at him. He was done eating already. And by the looks of it, he must have been looking at me for a while now, because of how relaxed he was.
“It's nothing serious. Did you like it?” I asked him, trying to make him deviate from the topic.
“Yup. But you're not changing the topic. What's going on with you? Are you okay? Is there something I need to know?” He asked all of these questions at the same time. I knew he would not let it go, so instead I said.
“You know what I'm thinking about.” I said. He was confused for a while because it showed on his face. But when he realized what I was talking about, he shook his head.
“No baby. We've spoken about this a million times already. No babies again.” He said in a tight voice.
“We've not spoken about it. You're the one that has said your piece about it. Do you even want to know what I feel about the topic?” I asked.
“You have no idea what I went through seeing you like that for hours on end without being able to do anything about it. I can't put you through something like that again.” He said which has been what he says every time we have this conversation.
“What about me then? I'm the one that went through all of the pain. The suffering. And I'm here telling you that I want another one. You made me get an IUD without me fully consenting to it. It's been over two years now. I'm over it. You should too.” I said, anger seeped into my tone and I could see the way he flinched from the sharpness of my words.
“Ember…”
“No. I know you made Freya come stay with us because of that. But, she has her own life to live too. She can't just stay here on your demand.” I said. “When you think we should have a proper discussion, let me know.” I completed and stood up from the chair I was sitting in.
He called me over and over but I didn't even bother to answer him.
We need to trash this out as soon as possible.
“Babe come on now.” I heard him call behind me but I pretended that I was asleep.
“I know you're not sleeping. You can't ignore me forever you know.” He said and I huffed.
“Try me.” I bit my lip as I said that. I allowed him to know that I was not asleep. Which was a big mistake on my path.
“See, it's not really that big of a deal. You've made your stance known in every single thing you've been doing for years now and I know it. I just don't accept your idea. That's all.” I said facing him. He was sitting on his knees on the bed which made him look funny and kind of vulnerable too. So, I sat up.
After what seemed like a forever silence, he spoke up.
“I wish you could experience what I did that day. And the days that followed.” He said silently. “Looking at you on that bed, running out of breath, seeing color leave your skin like you would slip away from my hand within a few seconds if I'm not on the look out or dragging you back. All your screams and cries. They still plague me till today. I have nightmares about it. I've never told you this before. It's not as though I don't want another child. But I love you too much to let you go through it again. I love you too much and I blame myself for making you live through that kind of pain. I…”
“No. It's not like that and you know it. It….” He raised his hand mid sentence for me to stop and I did.
“What else could I have done? I don't know any other manner in which I could protect you. That's why I have put my feet down on the matter. I don't want to lose you. Hell, I don't know what I would do if I lost you.”
I don't know what to say right now. He had never said it like this before. And now, I understand his point of view better.
So, I climbed into his lap, wrapping my legs around him, his hands held my waist. I looked into his eyes in the darkness of the room that was lit up by the moon outside.
“I understand you. I know you're doing this because of me too. But then, if we don't try, we can't know. And again, I feel like it's because it was my first time. I mean, the nurses said the same thing. Your mother did.” I shrugged as I said so. “I'm all good now.” I said to him as I hugged him.
“Are you sure about this?” He asked after a few minutes. It was like he was being forced.
“I want you to come to terms with it too. When you do, we can try for a baby again. I don't want to force you or just put it on you like that.” I said to him.
“No problem then.” He said.
There was a comfortable silence between us for a long time and I don't know how many minutes we spent like that in that position. But then, he was the one that spoke next.
“Let's go on a vacation.” He said simply, and I pulled away from the hug to look him in the eyes.
“Really? Where?” I asked.
“Where would you like to go?” He asked and without thinking twice, I spoke.
“Paris.”
“Then Paris it is. We can try for a baby as much as we want there. Just the two of us. Freya can handle Leo while we are away making younger ones for him.” He said with a smirk and my heart swelled.
“I love you.” I said to him.
“I love you very much baby.” He whispered and kissed me so deeply, I could feel it in my soul.
