Chapter 131

Chapter 131

Rachel glanced at the foie gras, which cost over a hundred grand. There was still some left.

Ethan had been watching the whole time, not even touching his utensils.

"Want to order more?" Rachel asked, following his lead.

After all, it was Isaac's money they were spending, so she didn't feel the least bit guilty.

Rachel's words made Ethan pause slightly. "Stepmom, I thought you didn't have any money?"

"Your dad gave me a little bit." Rachel drew out her words, her tone leisurely.

Ethan let out a surprised yelp. He had thought she didn't have a penny to her name!

Turns out she had money from his father all along. No wonder she had been so calm earlier.

Realizing he had been tricked by Rachel, Ethan pouted, feeling a bit annoyed. "Then why did you lie to me earlier?"

"When did I ever lie? I just told you to order whatever you wanted. I didn't say anything else, did I?" Rachel felt his wording was imprecise.

Ethan got even angrier. He looked at Rachel, his furrowed brows showing a hint of irritation.

Seeing Ethan's displeasure, Rachel chuckled lightly. "What did I say wrong?"

He looked at Rachel without speaking.

"My husband gave me the money. Am I not allowed to spend it?" She looked at Ethan, her tone turning serious.

Kevin didn't show much emotion, but Ethan was clearly upset.

He liked his stepmom but didn't want her using Isaac's money. It just felt weird to him.

Ethan found it hard to accept this complicated family dynamic.

Even though he had been abroad for many years and had seen a lot, it didn't mean he approved of such a twisted relationship.

He still hoped Rachel and his father's relationship wouldn't be too close.

Although Rachel had never expressed any romantic interest in him, Ethan had a vague sense of feelings he couldn't quite describe.

Ethan sighed deeply and said, "Let's not make a fuss. I'll pay for this."

"Weren't we supposed to have a meal? Are you still hungry?" Rachel said, looking at Kevin.

Kevin casually replied, "I'm full."

"Then why did you order so much?" Rachel was a bit annoyed and glared at Kevin.

Kevin shrugged indifferently. To Rachel, his attitude seemed provocative.

Rachel suppressed her anger, keeping it inside, saying, "Fine, I'll pack up the leftovers."

Kevin noticed her displeasure and shrugged again.

She called the waiter over.

The waiter quickly packed up the leftovers.

When he was done, he asked, "Will that be card or cash?"

Of course, it was card.

Rachel took out her card, about to pay, when Ethan stopped her hand and intended to pay.

At that moment, Kevin, sitting in the center, placed his card on the table.

The sound drew everyone's attention. His assertive move left Rachel speechless.

Kevin said coldly, "Go ahead."

"Didn't you say you wanted me to treat?"

"Would you be happy spending your own money?" Kevin teased.

Rachel couldn't tell if he was mocking or joking, and her mood soured.

She pressed her lips together tightly, her eyes darkening as she looked at Kevin. "I don't want to spend my own money, but you don't have to make me sound like a cheapskate!"

"Aren't you a cheapskate?" Kevin retorted.

"Why are you talking to Stepmom like that? She didn't grow up in a wealthy family," Ethan chimed in.

Rachel felt hurt by their words. She shot Ethan a look. Did he think he was being considerate and emotionally intelligent?

Rachel took a deep breath, not wanting to argue with him.

But then Kevin sneered, "Let her pay then. People like us from wealthy families can't understand her struggles!"

What was Ethan doing? Kevin had just said he would pay. Now Ethan's words made it seem like she had to pay again.

Rachel's heart ached. She took a sharp breath, looking at the long bill. The meal cost nearly three hundred thousand dollars.

Rachel was so shocked she almost dropped the bill, feeling like it was a hot potato. The staggering number made Rachel's heart skip a beat.

Angry, she tore off the bill and reluctantly swiped her card. After this, Rachel decided never to owe anyone a favor again, and she would never promise to treat anyone to a meal beyond her means.

Leaving the private room, several waiters smiled at them. Rachel noticed their careful, attentive service. It turned out the three hundred thousand dollars wasn't just for the meal but for the service. In a place like this, she finally experienced being pampered.

Rachel couldn't help but smile deeply. "So this is the kind of treatment you people enjoy?"

Ethan smirked. "Didn't you say you didn't want to mingle with the rich?"

"Well, I spent so much money. Why shouldn't I enjoy this top-notch service?" She glared at Ethan.

Ethan scratched his head, not understanding why Rachel's tone was suddenly so harsh. Had he done something to upset her?

As Ethan looked confused, he saw the two of them heading out. To keep an eye on Rachel and Kevin, Ethan quickly followed.

He saw Rachel about to get into Kevin's car. Ethan grabbed the car door she was about to close.

"What are you doing?" Rachel looked at Ethan, puzzled, her voice chilly. "I'm getting in the car. Why are you stopping me?"

"Can't we talk properly?" He looked at Rachel, his gaze deep and cold. "Stepmom, don't get in his car."

Rachel snapped, "What's the difference whose car I get into? Ethan, can you stop blocking me?"

With that, she pulled her hand away from Ethan's grip on the door frame.

He looked at Rachel, feeling aggrieved. He looked so pitiful it was almost heartbreaking.

But Rachel shot him a look and got into the car, saying, "Drive!"

He couldn't talk properly, making her spend three hundred thousand dollars in the blink of an eye. Rachel was already angry about it. Ethan was just asking for trouble.
