Chapter 68
When their eyes met, Jennifer quickly made her way toward her. “Are you okay?” She asked with concern in her voice.
Samantha smiled. “You saw and heard what happened, right?”
Jennifer smiled as well before raising her thumb as if saying she did a good job before voicing out, “You are so cool,” with a proud and amazed tone.
Samantha chuckled. “Am I?”
Jennifer nodded. “Yep. Actually, I was already on the verge of barging in the room to give them a piece of my mind as well, but just when I was about to, you started roasting them, and it was so good to hear! You were really cool in there! Thankfully, you were not holding back anymore. Do you know how frustrating it is to see you doing nothing while they bully you?”
Jennifer has actually tried to save her and fight for her several times during the last three days. But because Samantha did not want her to get involved and make her one of Elsa and her minions' power-tripping victims, she stopped her and asked her not to get involved any further.
“I already told you there was no need for you to get involved anymore, didn’t I? I can handle my own affairs very well, Jennifer, so you’ve got nothing to worry about. But still, I am grateful that you care that much about me. I greatly appreciate that,” Samantha said, making Jennifer’s smile widen.
“Well, that’s what friends are for,” she said, causing Samantha to smile as well.
“Then,” Samantha said after pausing for a few seconds, “I’ve got somewhere to be, so I’ll head out first.”
Jennifer nodded, still smiling. “Alright. See you tomorrow, then? And, oh, be careful on your way home.”
“You too,” she responded, then finally resumed walking out of the supermarket.
Samantha went to the usual place where she waited for a taxi. And just as she was about to get her phone to see if Daniel had texted her, a familiar car stopped right in front of her.
She immediately recognized the car after staring at it for a few seconds. The window in the passenger seat was rolled down, and she was greeted by Daniel, who was smiling at her.
“Hop in,” Daniel said.
Samantha did not waste any more time, and she immediately opened the door and got inside the car, putting her bag on her lap.
“Were you waiting long?” Daniel asked right after she settled herself.
“Nope. I just got out,” Samantha answered, to which Daniel answered with a nod before starting to drive.
Samantha kept quiet for a few minutes, but when she realized that they were not heading to somewhere unfamiliar, that's when she decided to speak again.
“Where are we going?” She asked Daniel while her eyes were looking ahead.
“To my place,” Daniel answered without looking at her.
Samantha was surprised, her eyes widening as she looked at him. “You have your own place?”
Daniel couldn't help but laugh at her reaction. He glanced at her, then said, “Surprised?”
“Well, I never thought you had one since you've been living with your dad,” Samantha answered.
“I actually bought it two years ago. But I didn't want to leave my father alone at our family home, so I opted to stay with him. But now that your mother has moved in and my father will no longer be alone, I figured it was time for me to leave our family home and live on my own. Be independent, you know?”
“And your dad was okay with it?”
"Yep. He has been trying to tell me for a long time that he will be fine living alone; that I should stop worrying about him and start enjoying my life and doing what I wanted to do. He was concerned that living with him would make me unable to live freely, but he was mistaken. I have been living my life the way I want it. It's simply that I don't show him most of the ways I live my life. I mean, he'd probably have a heart attack if he knew what I've done and am doing."
“Oh, he definitely will,” Samantha agreed while shaking her head with a slight grin on her face. She returned her gaze to the road ahead and added, “I wonder what other scandalous and forbidden things you have done without your father’s knowledge.”
“Aside from fucking my soon-to-be stepsister?” He said while grinning.
Samantha shook her head again. “Yeah. Aside from that, she then rolled her eyes after saying that.
“Not much, actually. He would just have to face the truth: I am not the honest and well-behaved son he thought I was. And that I have different sides of me that, once he learns, he surely will be shocked and disappointed.”
“Disappointed? Just what kind of things have you done for your father to be disappointed?”
“As I said, nothing much. I just happened to date one of my professors in college so that I would pass her class—yeah, that’s one of the many things I did without my father knowing.”
To say Samantha was shocked was an understatement. From the road, her eyes went back to stare at Daniel again, but this time it was due to bewilderment.
Daniel took a glance at her, and a chuckle escaped his mouth upon seeing Samantha’s reaction. “Your reaction is so funny,” he said.
“You dated your professor?” Samantha asked with disbelief written all over her face, completely ignoring Daniel’s comment about her reaction. “What the... You really dated your professor?”
Daniel chuckled once more before speaking. “Come on. It wasn’t that shocking. A lot of students date their professors.”
“No,” Samantha quickly said. “Not a lot of students do. It wasn’t shocking? Are you kidding me? That was hella shocking! That is taboo!”
“And so is our relationship right now.”
“Stop inserting our relationship into everything!” Samantha said in an annoyed voice, making Daniel laugh again.
“It’s not like I was a minor when I dated my professor, so I see nothing wrong with that,” Daniel said before shrugging.
“Still—”
“It was consensual. No one was forced. We both wanted it, so I see no problem there,” Daniel interjected.
An exasperated sigh came out of Samantha’s lips as she averted her gaze to the road. “I can’t believe you,” she murmured in a worn-out voice. “I don’t want to talk to you anymore,” she added, which caused Daniel to laugh again.
