136. Bedside
Fox POV
I heard gunfire. It was close, screaming began ringing out. I watched as Murphy looked horrified. Nathan ran out and he looked at me. “She is here, you were so stupid to think she wouldn’t come for me.” I said darkly. Murphy looked at me. He started to march over. I could hardly see him with my swollen eyes.
“If she sees me done, your life will be, well you already know.” I said realizing my words sounded messy. Maybe it was from being beaten up? He smacked me across the face. “We will see about that.” He held a gun against my head. So, he was going to try and execute me in front of her. I could hear explosions that came next. Then I smelt smoke. She was burning the place down.
Murphy had the gun trembling against my temple. He was scared. “If you leave me alive, she will wait to come after you. You know tend to my wounds.” I spoke. I felt a sharp smack. My head had been pistol whipped. “I want her to see you die.” He hissed; the gun trembling more than it had before. I was now seeing double, but I could make out flames. “She will see, she did this to you.” What did that mean.
“Burning you alive will be her fault.” He spoke. Okay now I got it. “Fuck this, I am not burning for you.” The coward was running. Was he seriously leaving me alive? I snorted my lungs felt like they were collapsing. If I had been in his position, I would have shot him before I escaped, God he really was an idiot. He really thought I was going to be burned up, like my little psycho would do that.
She never would leave me here to die by her own flames. I heard more gunfire; my head was reeling. My eyes shut and opened slowly. They were so heavy and swollen. Murphy had been hitting me for hours. Maybe Murphy was right. The fire would kill me. The flames were burning high and wild. The heat was getting too close to me, and I felt nauseous. My eyes closed again.
I felt a small hand on my face. “Fox?” The voice of an angel. I had to be in heaven, how had that happened? I was sure hell awaited me. “Fox open your eyes.” The angel said. They opened and I saw blue eyes staring at me. The long scar across her face, this was my little psycho, my Ophelia. We had both died and were now in heaven. But it was so hot, maybe we where we belonged, in hell.
“I need you to stay awake okay, I need to find bolt cutters.” She said. That didn’t make sense. Then she was gone but I felt a sharp scream. My body jerked to alert, that scream I knew, and I hated it, Ophelia was screaming. I felt my arms go limp and fall to my sides and so did my legs. “Fox I can’t carry you, please come on.” She said, I could feel the tremble in her voice.
My arm soon was pushed around a small frame of a body. My legs felt like led as the body helped me to the exit. I felt my body crumble to the ground. “Fucking hell Fox.” She yelled, Ophelia. That was who was yelling. Smoke pushed across my face. I heard coughing then I was being pulled. I could stand, couldn’t I? I didn’t think I was paralyzed?
My legs shook as I tried to get up and the hand pulling me released and my arm was once again placed around a small shoulder. Gunfire rang out again. It was closer now. What was going on, my vision was so foggy. It felt like I was in a different body. I felt hot metal, but not burning against my cheek. “Fucking get in the truck” The voice of Ophelia said. She was shoving me.
What was happening? My body was leaning into something comforting. A loud bang rang out and where I was sitting was shaking. I felt a rumble under me and then I was flying? No, impossible. The smell of smoke was fading and then it all went back.
My eyes opened and I felt sore beyond belief. What had happened? I looked around, everything was clean and white. I noticed Cesar next to me. Wait he wasn’t supposed to be back in the city. “You scared me man.” He spoke. “What?” I said my throat feeling hoarse. “Where is Ophelia?” I said straining my throat. “She is okay, and so are your babies.” I could feel my eyebrows coming together but it was so sore.
“What happened?” I asked. “Well, your fiancé killed a shit ton of people, got checked by the doctor and despite his wishes she then left to take care of things, well that is what she said.” I tried to get out of the bed. But Cesar gently pushed me back, so I remained in bed. “Nah man, let her handle that. She said to make sure you rested and that she would see you at the altar.” Again, my eyebrows came together.
“Is Caden?” Cesar shook his head. “He is fine, Murphy is an idiot. He thought he killed him but didn’t even check. All he did was shoot him and when he fell, he wasn’t dead. Just unconscious. EJ got to him and brought him to the doctor.” I nodded. “What did Ophelia do?” I asked my throat burning and I began to cough. Cesar helped me get some water and it was soothing. “She burned the fucking port down and used that fucking gun on the trailer to cause serious damage, is what she did.”
I forced the yawn I had down. “Nathan and Murphy got away.” I said and Cesar responded. “She has Nathan.” He said and I smirked. “Murphy?” I asked and Cesar shook his head. “Look all I knew is she has her bastard uncle and that is it. She told me to keep you here until the wedding. That is two days away.” I stared at him. “You need to rest.” My cousin said. “Why are you here?” I asked and added “Shouldn’t you be in North Carolina.” He smiled.
“I was already on my way for the wedding when Ophelia called and said I needed to stay by your bed until the wedding. She didn’t want my help and was adamant that I didn’t do more than take care of you.” He said. “Now Valentine you got to get some sleep.” I wanted to help my little psycho. She needed to rest. All of this wasn’t good for the babies growing inside her. But Cesar said to sleep, and I knew I couldn’t really fight my body on this as my swollen sore eyes closed again.
