Chapter 165 - My Rejected Wife Is A Billionaire
"I am Sissi," the girl repeated, her voice sounding eerily mechanical.
Edgar observed her for a moment, sighed, and then looked away. "No wonder you ended up on the streets."
He had no fond feelings for his former apprentice, who was also Sissi's father.
"Clearly, Borian abandoned her once he realized she was mentally unwell."
Borian was that apprentice's name.
Reflecting on these circumstances, Cecilia couldn't help but sigh softly.
They led Sissi inside, seating her on a fabric sofa.
Cecilia then gently probed, "Where is your dad?"
Sissi's gaze was vacant, and despite Cecilia's repeated questioning, she only uttered disjointed phrases that offered no useful information.
Thus, they decided not to press further.
Resolving to stick to the original plan, Cecilia decided to take Sissi to a shelter.
Beacon lacked such a facility, so she opted to transport Sissi to a shelter in the city.
Upon examination, a staff member disclosed, "One of her eyes is blind, and there are signs of physical abuse on her body. Do you know what she's been through?"
Cecilia was taken aback and glanced at Sissi's eyes.
She had thought Sissi's vacant stare was due to her mental state, not realizing she was blind in one eye.
"I don't know," she replied after a pause.
The staff member sighed and shook his head. "People in the black market target these healthy yet mentally unstable kids the most. Since their families don't care, there's no risk in keeping them for a few years. If someone needs an organ, the kid will naturally become a donor. She's lucky to have only lost a cornea."
The mere thought of such exploitation was chilling.
Cecilia instinctively touched her own eye, from which a significant portion of the cornea had been removed.
Afterward, Cecilia's life resumed its tranquility, except for Justin's visits under the pretext of seeing Nico.
Fortunately, his visits weren't frequent, so Cecilia could live with that.
Half a month later, Cecilia visited Future Star Media.
Although she no longer drew a salary from the company, she remained involved in decision-making.
As she approached the artistic staircase inside the building, someone called her name.
Turning, she saw Arthur, impeccably dressed in a business suit, smiling warmly at her.
"Arthur," she greeted upon recognizing him.
"I saw you from behind and thought it was you. I'm glad to see I was right," Arthur said with a friendly smile.
Cecilia responded with a polite smile, "Thank you for the heads-up about visiting my father last time. I haven't had the chance to thank you properly."
Arthur smiled shyly, "It was the least I could do. Cecy, I heard about your divorce. If you really want to thank me, why not give me a chance?"
Cecilia was taken aback by his sudden confession.
She immediately rejected him, "I'm sorry, but I'm not considering marriage right now."
Before she could continue, Arthur seized her hand. "Not now doesn't mean not ever. Perhaps you're just afraid because of your previous marriage, but not all men are the same. I am certainly not like your ex-husband," he pleaded earnestly.
As Cecilia pondered how to persuade Arthur, someone cleared his throat coldly.
Turning towards the sound, she saw a man with a piercing gaze.
It was Justin!
Cecilia's heart raced at his presence.
But Justin stood still, staring at her without a word. Arthur was surprised and asked, "Who is this..."
"Mr. Quinn, good morning," Cecilia greeted, forcing a smile despite Justin's stern look.
Justin remained standing between them, causing Arthur to hesitate and eventually release Cecilia's hand.
The next second, Justin passed by her silently.
What the...
What was wrong with him?
Was he here to enjoy the show?
"What's your relationship with him?" Arthur inquired, finding Justin somewhat familiar yet unable to place him.
Preferring not to publicize her past with Justin, Cecilia replied, "He's just a client."
"Cecy, we..." Despite repeatedly clarifying her stance, Cecilia felt drained and didn't want to argue further. She interjected, "I have other matters to attend to. Let's talk some other time."
Hearing this, Arthur hastily offered his business card, insisting, "Please call me whenever you're free. Whatever trouble you're in, whether it's financial or you're being bullied, you can always ask for my help."
He walked away while speaking, repeatedly gesturing at Cecilia.
Holding Arthur's business card, Cecilia felt a mix of annoyance at his persistence and a grudging acknowledgment of his sincerity.
While pondering, she proceeded upstairs.
Turning a corner, she spotted Justin, who had just walked away.
He was leaning against the railing at the end of the corridor while smoking.
As he stood there, his spot offered a comprehensive view of the entire staircase.
