Chapter 109 - My Rebellious Luna

ALPHA LUKE POV

I should have known something was wrong when I felt a sharp pain in my ankle. When I heard my Shortcake’s panicked voice call out for me, the air got knocked out of my lungs. I was on the other side of the pack searching along with a group of warriors. Matt had just informed me he was near the training grounds. Before I could mindlink him, he told me he was on his way. That didn’t stop me running to her as fast as I could. I couldn’t believe he found her before our warriors got to her.

I was almost half way there. “Alpha! There are about a hundred warriors approaching the perimeter.” Jordan announced. They must be warriors from Adam’s allied packs. “You have more than enough warriors to handle them.” I was no longer surprised by the amount of tricks Adam had up his sleeves. He may not have come in here with guns drawn but he was ready for a fight if it came down to it.

By the time I reached Celia’s shop, I noticed several foot prints. I looked under the porch and it was empty, there was a trail that showed she had been dragged out from underneath. “Matt, did you find her?” Everything I had just seen told me the opposite but I needed to be wrong. “He has her in front of the pack house. He’s asking for you.” Matt rushed out.

I began to run toward the pack house and before I could turn the corner to see anything, I heard them. “Your Luna will be released when Luke hands over the pack. Including the pack members and warriors.” Adam told Matt smugly. I peered around the corner and saw my Luna draped over his shoulder. I took a few steps forward when she looked up at me. “Wait!” She mindlinked.

Matt and Adam kept going back and forth and all I could think was, what did she want me to wait for? I would gladly give Adam everything in exchange for her. It’s selfish and stupid of me, but there is no way I would put her life at risk. I didn’t bother responding to her because I was going to make a move whether she wanted me to or not.

That’s when I noticed her hand was very slowly inching it’s way to her back pocket. If she wasn’t careful and he felt her movement, he would catch her in the act. My heart stopped beating and I froze in place as her hand crept closer and closer. “Both of you better stand down before I kill your Luna! I would rather Luke give me the pack that’s rightfully mine, but if I’m pushed I will kill his mate. Which will probably kill him.” He threatened.

I couldn’t wait any longer. Stepping out from behind the building, he sensed my presence and began to turn. “There you are bro.. AHHHH!” His knees buckled and I ran forward unsure of what had happened. That’s when I noticed the hunting knife imbedded in his inner thigh. She must have stuck it in his femoral artery because it was gushing blood.

Everything happened in a split second. All of the warriors, his and mine, shift and begin to tear each other apart. Matt and I are both running toward Adam, trying to get Becky. Before we can reach her, Adam throws her to the side and I change directions. Lunging forward, I managed to catch her before any harm could come to her or our pup. She can heal but our pup is more fragile.

Holding her in my arms, I turned in time to see Adam pull the knife from his thigh as he roared in pain. He turns and scowls at Becky and me, then shifts. Matt jumps, shifting in midair, landing on him. Our warriors have successfully taken care of the Golden Moon warriors but don’t have a chance to take a breath before the battle from the perimeter makes its way into the pack.

Becky is watching Adam and Matt fight with tears in her eyes. “Help him!” She yells at me. I don’t want to let her go, but I know I need to. Jerry has a gun aimed at the two wolves but they are moving too quickly for him to shoot the right one. “Take Becky to safety! I’ll help Matt.” I got up and got her to him. Before she leaves my arms completely, I see my Luna’s eyes go wide and hear a loud crack followed by a yelp.

BECKY POV

How can things happen so fast yet so slow at the same time? Where did all of these warriors come from? Matt and Adam are clawing and biting each other, there is blood everywhere. It looked like Matt was getting the upper hand finally. He was on top of him trying to bite down on Adam’s neck.

As soon as Luke hands me to Jerry, I notice Naomi running towards Matt and Adam with a large metal pipe. Before I could say anything she swung it, hitting Matt’s wolf on the head. Luke turns in time to stop her from doing it again, but Adam is already on top of Matt.

Luke throws Naomi onto the side of the pack house. She hits the wall and falls unconscious. I’m clutching Jerry’s shirt hoping Luke gets to Adam in time to help Matt. He shifts just as Adam bites down on Matt’s neck. A sickening crunch is heard and my eyes close, not wanting to believe what I have just heard and seen. I forced myself to open my eyes in time to see Luke claw into Adam’s side.

All around me, wolves are clawing at each other. This is the battle I envisioned and I can thank Adam for not disappointing. Luke has Adam pinned to the ground, clawing at Adam's face. One of his eyes is now disfigured, it’s hard to watch but hard to look away. Luke continues to slash at his face, until he turns, leaving his neck exposed.

Luke doesn’t hesitate to bite down and rip his throat out. I surge of mixed feelings hit me, relief, pride, anger and the biggest one is sorrow. Looking around, I notice the battle is dying down, the other side is retreating after seeing Alpha Adam is dead. There are injured warriors walking around and lifeless bodies on the floor.

Jerry begins to walk towards Matt and my heart breaks for my Gamma. “Let me down.” I gently slide down and sit next to Matt who’s in human form covered in blood. I heard Naomi moan and look at Jerry. He quickly runs over and hog ties her using zip ties.

“Shortcake… are you okay? Is our pup okay?” Luke had shifted and crouched down next to me. His hand trialed down to my still flat belly. I held his hand and let out a shaky breath. “I’m okay, our pup is okay. He only hurt my ankle and punched me in the face.” I grumbled and glared at Adam’s corpse. He killed my Gamma.

I turned to Matt and whimpered. “You shouldn’t see him like this.” Luke says as he crouches down next to me. “It hurts Luke.” I sob. Seeing someone from my pack, my Gamma lying dead on the ground is agonizing. “I’m sorry my Luna, please let me take you away from here.” I shook my head and frowned. “Did we have any other casualties?” I asked.

He clearly didn’t want to burden me, but his eyes glazed over for a moment. “They are still checking but so far, three warriors.” He said hesitantly. My hand brushed through Matt’s hair as I remembered how he protected this pack and me. How was I going to look at his parents' faces? The faces that belong to the families of any of our fallen warriors. In a very small way, Adam won.
