Chapter 172
*JAMES SMITH POV*
Everything was falling into place, my life with Debbie and our son was spectacular, we lived together and spent late nights taking care of Ithan, and our coexistence was perfect. Debbie had already forgotten that Patricia still existed, the times I saw her thinking I tried to do everything I could to make sure she didn't dare to remember her, I wanted her to be happy and smiling all the time. After she had our son, her look changed, and her mood became more loving, there were days when I woke up and found her on the balcony sunbathing with Ithan in her arms. We went out to buy more things for the room, sometimes to eat ice cream and go to the cinema, I knew that taking her out of her routine made her happy.
Debbie became the woman I most wanted to have, I didn't imagine that the obsession Kevin created with Alisson would result in me having a great love for his friend. At first, she was the most annoying person I wanted to get rid of, but as a good friend and business partner I made the sacrifice, and today I see how well I did. She was always fickle, with an acidic sense of humor, especially with me because she was prevented from returning to her normal life while in the middle of an organization, but I never once saw her feel afraid. Debbie has a strong personality, doesn't show fear, and knows how to be threatening when she wants to, but I well remember her rejection of the life that Kevin and I lead.
Maybe Kevin is right, Debbie would be of great use in the mafia, I don't know what position she would suit her in, but I wouldn't be crazy to agree with that decision, Debbie is my wife and the mother of my son, I would never let her get involved in anything. something so dangerous. It's six in the morning, I'm watching her as she sleeps soundly, it's time to get up and feed Ithan, it didn't take me long to get to her room.
“Good morning, big guy.”
I approached her crib and heard her whimpering with hunger, she hadn't started her loud crying show yet, so I tried to go to the kitchen to get her mother's milk, I took it out of the fridge and tried to warm it up when it was at room temperature. I went back to the room, where her crying would wake up even a deaf person. I put him in my arms and tried to put the bottle in his mouth, but the crying stopped. While he was eating, his beautiful eyes were open, they were a dark blue, cold as ice, it was difficult to remember which eye color he inherited, but the color of his little hair was from his mother.
“If you inherit my personality, I promise you I will give you a Ferrari.” At my proposal, the boy smiled against the bottle. “Ahh, so that means you liked it, huh?!” I'll take that toothless smile as a yes.
After feeding him, I tried to wait for his burp, then I placed him on his changing table and removed his dirty diaper, applied a wet wipe and ointment, then put on a clean diaper.
“You only drink milk and you stink like hell.”
A few months passed and Debbie had fully recovered from the birth, her body had returned to normal as if she had never been pregnant, that woman was a spectacle. Our son was already progressing, he no longer drank breast milk because it had dried out, now it was just formula given by the doctor. We went out a few times with Alisson, Kevin, and their children, Peter had been very happy when he saw his future friend, and also his sous chef when he took over his father's business, but Debbie was still reluctant about this important issue.
“So he’s going to be my right-hand man at my dad’s job?” Peter questioned, and I confirmed right away.
“Yes, they will be a great duo, just like me and your father.”
“So little Ithan will kill people with me?”
“Wait, do you already know what we work on?”
“A few days Dad told me, he’s teaching me how to take it off.”
“That’s cool, tell me how it’s going,” I asked excitedly, but Debbie caught my attention, I cut mine and the boy off. “Be very careful, this is very dangerous.”
One day Debbie and I decided to spend an afternoon in the garden, she prepared a small picnic under a tree so that our son wouldn't get so much sun. She looked beautiful, she wore a beautiful delicate dress with tiny green flowers, her hair was loose and her forehead was covered with her bangs. In her hand was a box of juice and in the other a chocolate cake, I watched her eat it heartily, she was perfect. For days I've been choosing the ring I'll give her, I'll ask her to marry me in the way she deserves, I've been planning it for a while, I'll ask her today.
“Tonight we’re going out.” I communicated.
"To go out? where?"
"It's a surprise."
“So much mystery...I liked it.” she smiled mischievously.
At night we got ready and dressed in formal clothes, after I was ready I took her to dinner at a restaurant, we ordered lobster and enjoyed the best wine there was and then we went to a penthouse in the city, she was nervous, she made that clear. We got into the elevator and I tried to blindfold her, she became even more anxious. I opened the bedroom door and took her inside, positioning her in the center of the roof and asking her to remove the blindfold from her eyes. Debbie looked at the whole place in surprise, she had placed rose petals on the floor in a single trail to the bed, and on it was written in petals "Will you marry me?" and several scented candles lit up some of the places. As soon as she finished reading my question, I knelt in front of her and saw her looking at me without reaction.
