Cold-blooded bastard
“I know y'all think I stand a good chance at winning this battle against my Father, but I don't wanna be so overly confident and end up being blindsided by whatever tricks Father's plotting. You get what I'm saying, don't you?”
I glanced at the five men sitting in front of me.
“Sure, we do, Alpha Trent.” Elder Harry nodded.
“I'm glad you do. So the first thing I wanna confirm is if my Father met up with anyone or had any kinda meeting that could mean some rebellion plot.”
“We'll find out.” Elder Yurin assured.
“Thank you.” I finally let out a breath of relief. “And also, keep an eye on Leonardo. He's my Father's best friend and confidante. If my Father is plotting anything, I think Leonardo would be included.”
“Okay, but if he finds out you sent someone to spy on him, he has every right to sue you for it. And also, sending men into his Pack without his permission can be tagged as trespassing.”
“Who says he's gonna find out? Mmhm?” I arched a brow at him.
“I'm just saying…”
“I heard you, loud and clear. So, make sure the men stay as invisible as needed. I just need to know where Leonardo goes, who he's meeting with—” I paused as a thought hit me.
Elder Harry noticed the sudden pause. “Is there a problem?”
“Nah, not really. I just remembered that I haven't seen Miguel in a while either. Not him, and not any of Father's men. It's like they all vanished, which is completely weird.”
“Weird? Isn't it more logical that they go into hiding for fear of being captured like their leader?” Elder Yurin tried to prove a point.
“Yes, if we're talking about some lanky, inexperienced, and less vicious army. Father's army, on the other hand, are way too audacious, problematic, loyal and fucking vicious to just disappear and abandon their leader. They should be busting into the Pack house by now. They should be sending me threats, but I haven't received any. Nah, something's off. I can feel it.”
This wasn't just plain paranoia. It was something deeper — more like a hunch, a bloody gut feeling. Father's up to something. I just fucking need to find out what it is.
“Forgive me for asking —” it was the elder sitting next to Elder Harry. “But if Alpha Vince is really a traitor and should be punished, why don't you do it publicly?”
“Publicly?”
“Yes, like holding a press conference. Holding a Pack meeting. Telling everyone what his crimes are. I mean, punishing him legally. That way, he won't have the courage to stir up any kinda rebellion because the people would be against him. And if he goes ahead, then he just earned himself the villain card.”
“I think he has a point,” Elder Harry nodded. “Why not just publicly ruin your Father? Tell everyone his crimes. I don't understand why we're being so careful about this when we can just go all out?”
Their suggestion was epic, but it had a little flaw. If I try to publicly ruin my Father, then I'm putting myself at risk, too. Because then he's not gonna have anything to lose; he'd go ahead and tell everyone about my embezzlement and every treacherous stunt I've pulled since I became Alpha.
Father wouldn't wanna go down alone. He'd drag me along. He has all the infinity stones to tarnish my image.
And if there's one thing I value the most, it's the love and loyalty of my people. I'll never do anything to ruin that.
That's why I'm holding back this much. How I wish I didn't commit a lot of crimes. That way, he wouldn't have anything against me. And I'd be able to punish him as I please.
“Where is he?!” A voice yelled. Angry footsteps stormed into the room. My eyes squinted in slight shock at the uninvited guest.
Lucy?
“There you are, you rotten piece of trash!” She shrieked.
Whoa! Now hold the fuck on! It took me a few seconds to snap out of my shock.
“Gentlemen, would you please excuse us for a second? I need to handle this alone.” I appealed to the men who looked more shocked than I was.
“Sure, Alpha Trent.” They stood and filed out in unison.
I stood, my jaw clenched. “What is the meaning of this, Ma'am?” My tone was rigid, hinting at a tamed rage.
The question was met with a resounding slap on my face. My cheek felt like it was on fire. My face was turned to the side and stayed that way for a few seconds.
“You're the most arrogant and cold-blooded bastard that I've ever laid my eyes on!” She continued her outburst. “And I warned you from the onset. I warned you to take responsibility for my daughter! To take responsibility for your actions! But what did you do? You drove her into an abyss of misery!”
“You came here uninvited, interrupted my meeting like a damn lunatic and just hit me without giving me a real clue on what the fuck this is about. You're asking for it…” I seethed.
“This is about my daughter. This is about the fact that you had no plans of marrying her. You just wanted the child! How…wicked can you be?!”
I froze for a second. Tracy…eavesdropped on that conversation? How come no one saw her enough to tell me that she was here?
“How can you be so heartless, Trent?! What did Tracy ever do wrong to you? All she's ever done is love you. She even betrayed her sister's trust for you, and that's still not enough?”
“I didn't ask her to do anything for me. She chose to. And it's not my fault she eavesdropped on such a brutally honest conversation. At least the burn she felt from eavesdropping would teach her to mind her business from hereon.”
“You arrogant fool!” Mrs. Lucy raised her hand again, trying to land another brutal slap to my already burning cheek.
I'd be dead if I let that happen.
I caught her hand in the air and forced it down. “If you hit me again, I'll have my men throw you out of here. And I promise you, they're not gonna be gentle about it.”
“Tracy's lying in the hospital, in pain!” She snapped in tears. “She just lost her child, and she can't seem to snap out of grief. My daughter is a wreck all because of you!”
My brain went on a freeze when she mentioned the child. I couldn't breathe past those words.
She turned to leave, but I held her back. She jerked her hand out of my hold just about the same second.
“Wait, hold on a bit. What do you mean by that?” I was already feeling jittery. “What happened to Tracy and the child?”
“She heard what you said to your Mother. And she figured Elena must have poisoned your mind into saying all that, so she went to confront Elena. And Elena pushed her. My daughter suffered the most painful miscarriage because of you and Elena!”
My head went blank.
What?!
