Chapter 235 Crossed Lines, Broken Control

Chapter 235 Crossed Lines, Broken Control
ADRIAN

“I won’t allow you to hurt the woman I love.”

The words left my mouth before I could stop them, and the moment they did, everything inside me went still. I almost didn’t recognize my own voice, like it had come from someone standing too far away to be me.

For a moment, the room felt suspended in place, as if even the air had forgotten how to move.

Mia’s head snapped toward me instantly, her expression shifting so fast it was like she hadn’t expected the words to ever come from me. Costa followed right after, slower, heavier, like he was trying to understand what he had just heard but couldn’t make it fit. The shock on both of their faces hit harder than I expected, sharper than any gun being raised in the room.

But Mia… she didn’t just look surprised.

She looked like something in her had shifted completely. Her eyes didn’t soften, didn’t question just hardened. Cold. Detached. Like she had just decided something about me without saying a word.

That stare made my chest tighten, and I had to force myself not to break eye contact immediately. I tried to hold her gaze, but it didn’t last for long before something in me gave way and my eyes shifted away.

“You must be joking,” Costa said, breaking the silence.

I dragged my attention back to him, but even then I noticed his eyes weren’t fully on me anymore. He had that same look I’ve seen on Alessandro too many times the one that comes right before blood is spilled. Controlled rage sitting just beneath the surface, quiet but sharp, like a promise that hasn’t been spoken out loud yet.

So this is what it looks like from the other side.

“I’m not joking,” I said, forcing the words out steadier this time even though my chest felt tight. “I love Mia.”

Silence followed.

Not the kind that brings peace, but the kind that presses down on your throat and makes even breathing feel like something you have to fight for.

Costa’s fingers tightened around his gun. I saw it clearly now he wasn’t far from pulling the trigger. Only something deeper held him back. History. Boundaries. Something unspoken between families that still hadn’t broken completely.

But tension like this doesn’t stay still for long.

A sudden sound ripped through the air outside gunfire. My head snapped toward the windows before I even realized I moved, just as one shot cracked through the silence, then another, followed by a heavier blast that made the glass tremble violently in its frame.

For a brief second, voices outside broke through shouts, hurried orders but they were swallowed just as fast, as if the compound itself refused to let them last.

Then came the impact.

A deep, violent crash rolled through the entire place, like the ground had shifted under us. The gates something tore through them. Metal screamed against stone, a sharp, grinding sound that cut through everything else and made the air feel tighter.

Another impact followed immediately, then another, each one closer, heavier, more certain.

And then the gates gave way.

The sound that followed wasn’t just loud—it was final, like something old had been forced open after holding back for too long.

Silence dropped in right after it, sudden and wrong, too quiet, too still, like the whole compound had forgotten how to breathe.

My chest tightened as I waited, every breath catching halfway in my throat, stuck there as if my body didn’t trust what was coming next.

For half a second, nothing moved, the kind of stillness that feels wrong, like the world is holding its breath.

Then I saw him Alessandro.

Standing at the broken gate like it didn’t exist. Like he hadn’t just torn through it. His posture was steady, almost calm, as if the destruction behind him was nothing more than a door he’d chosen to walk through.

Behind him, his men spilled in without hesitation fast, controlled, already fanning out like they’d done this too many times before.

No shouting, no panic just control, the kind that made everything feel worse instead of better. And Alessandro didn’t look around; he didn’t need to. His eyes stayed locked straight ahead, cutting through the compound in a single line of focus, right into us.

My jaw clenched so hard it hurt, the pressure almost painful as I stared at him.

Of course it had to be him.

He walked in slowly, no rush in his steps, no hint that the chaos he had just cut through even existed. Like the world behind him was already irrelevant. Like the moment he stepped inside, the room itself would adjust to his presence.

“How dare you,” I said under my breath.

I stepped forward at the same time my men reacted, almost as one body moving on instinct. Metal lifted in unison, the sharp sound of readiness filling the space.

Across the room, Costa’s men answered just as fast, weapons rising without hesitation, every angle covered, every breath held tight in the same suspended moment.

In seconds, the mansion wasn’t a room anymore it was a line drawn in bloodless war. Guns aimed. Breathing tightened. No one shifting their stance even an inch, like movement itself could start something irreversible.

But Alessandro didn’t even glance at them, not once, and that alone made the room feel even more unstable.

His attention stayed locked on me with that same calm expression, that same stillness that didn’t belong in a place like this. It wasn’t fearlessness. It was certainty, like whatever happened next had already been decided long before he walked in.

My fingers curled tighter around my weapon as I watched him, because I’ve seen that look before every time he’s willing to lose everything just to stop something he believes is wrong.

“What do you want?” I asked again, sharper this time, letting the words cut through the silence that was building too thick around us.

A few of my men shifted behind me, small movements that still felt loud in the tension. Someone on Costa’s side cocked their weapon in response, and no one told them to stop. No one needed to.

Alessandro finally stopped walking, just enough not close enough to be caught, not far enough to be ignored. And when he spoke, his voice didn’t rise, because it didn’t need to.

“You already know why I’m here, Adrian,” he said coldly.

The room seemed to narrow around those words, like even the space itself was tightening.

Even the air felt heavier.

He took another small step forward, just enough for everyone to feel the change, just enough for every finger on every trigger to tighten without permission.

“I won’t let you harm Elara.”
