Chapter 234 Old Feelings, New Confessions
Chapter 234 Old Feelings, New Confessions
MIA
How could this be? How could Adrian say he loved me?
The words kept replaying in my head: The woman I love.
I couldn’t understand it. Those words felt impossible, yet they continued echoing in my mind.
My eyes met his for a brief second, and something inside me reacted before I could stop it. My heart skipped, and I hated that it did.
I quickly looked away, breaking the connection between us because Adrian couldn’t mean that.
He couldn’t.
I knew that when I was a kid, I had feelings for him. Real feelings. He was the first person who ever made me feel safe. The day he saved me from those bullies, something changed inside me. I started seeing him differently.
After that, I always found a reason to be around him. I followed him everywhere, stayed beside him, and used Elara as an excuse.
I was just Elara’s friend. That was what everyone thought.
But the truth was… I knew Adrian before I even knew Elara.
I remembered the way I used to look for him whenever I came around, the way a single smile from him could change my entire day.
But there was one moment that destroyed everything. One moment that made me stop, and one moment that forced me to bury those feelings.
The day I found out Adrian had a girlfriend. A girlfriend who clearly didn’t like me.
I still remembered it like it happened yesterday.
After school, I went to Elara’s house because I knew Adrian would be there. I didn’t even understand why I was so excited to see him.
Maybe I just wanted to spend a little more time with him.
Maybe I was hoping he would finally notice me.
But the moment I walked inside, I stopped. My entire body froze.
Adrian was there, kissing his girlfriend.
I couldn’t move. I couldn’t speak.
I just stood there, watching the person I had admired for so long holding someone else.
My feet felt heavy, and my chest tightened. I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t.
Then I heard her voice.
“Don’t you think Mia likes you?”
My heart stopped. She knew. She had noticed.
For a second, a small part of me hoped Adrian would say something that would make everything disappear.
Maybe he would deny it. Maybe he would say something that would make me feel like I wasn’t foolish for having those feelings.
But I waited, and then I heard his answer.
“No. She is just Elara’s friend. Besides, how can I love a kid?”
A kid.
That was the only thing I heard. Not my feelings, not the way I always looked for him, not the way I chose him over everyone else. Just a kid.
My fingers tightened around my bag as I stood there, feeling something inside me break.
I didn’t let them know I was there. I didn’t cry, and I didn’t ask him why. I simply turned around and walked away.
That day, I made a promise to myself that I would never have anything to do with Adrian again. I stopped looking for him, stopped finding reasons to be around him, and stopped caring about where he was or who he was with.
And most importantly, I promised myself I would never let my heart belong to anyone again.
But now, here he was, standing in front of me and looking at me like I was the only person he could see.
Like I mattered. Like I was something precious to him. Calling me the woman he loved.
A bitter feeling rose in my chest because that could never be true, not after everything that had happened.
“You must be joking,” Costa said, his voice cutting through the silence between us. “You know I will never allow you to have my niece. Not in your wildest dreams.”
My eyes moved between them as the tension in the air grew heavier, thick enough to feel in my chest. Adrian didn’t step back, and he didn’t look away.
“She has the decision to make herself,” he replied.
Fuck.
Before anyone could say another word, a loud sound tore through the mansion. Gunshots.
My entire body went still. I knew that sound. I knew exactly what it meant.
Alessandro was here.
Another sound followed immediately after, a powerful crash that shook the ground beneath my feet. The giant gate in front of Adrian’s mansion fell, and everyone turned toward the entrance as dust filled the air.
My breathing stopped as the smoke slowly cleared, and then I saw him Alessandro standing there, his eyes locked on the mansion like he had only one reason for being here.
“Alessandro,” Adrian called in a cold voice.
