Chapter 228 My Own Home, My Prison
Chapter 228 My Own Home, My Prison
MIA
I dressed up and grabbed my bag, ready to leave the mansion.
I had already planned everything in my head. There were things I needed to handle, and staying inside was not an option.
But the moment I stepped out of my room, something felt different. The mansion was too quiet, too unfamiliar, and my steps slowed as I looked around.
Usually, I would hear familiar voices somewhere in the mansion. A greeting. A report. Footsteps belonging to people I knew.
Today, there was nothing. Only silence. A cold feeling settled in my stomach as I looked around, my gaze moving from one guard to another.
Then I stopped. None of them were mine. My fingers tightened around the strap of my bag as I looked again, hoping I was mistaken.
I wasn’t.
The men who had worked for me for years were gone. Every single one of them.
In their place stood strangers dressed in black, watching every entrance and hallway with expressions that gave nothing away.
“Fuck,” I muttered.
I didn’t need anyone to explain what had happened. I already knew.
My uncle.
A muscle twitched in my jaw.
He had removed all my trusted men and replaced them with his own. Without asking. Without warning me. Without even pretending to respect my authority.
The further I walked, the more obvious it became. One stood near the staircase, another near the front doors, and two more were outside. Every position that had once belonged to my people now belonged to his.
By the time I reached the driveway, my patience was hanging by a thread.
He really thought he could control me?
I headed straight for my car. The cool metal of the door handle brushed against my fingertips, but before I could open it, two men stepped in front of me.
I froze.
For a moment, nobody spoke. The air suddenly felt heavier as my eyes moved from one face to the other.
Neither of them looked nervous. Neither looked away.
It was as if they had already prepared themselves for this moment.
Slowly, I lowered my hand from the car door and looked at them.
“Move,” I ordered.
Neither of them moved.
“I'm sorry, ma’am,” one of them said, keeping his expression serious. “Boss instructed us not to let you leave this mansion.”
For a second, I just stared at him. The words took a moment to sink in.
Not let me leave? From my own house?
Slowly, my fingers curled into a fist. The audacity.
First, he replaced my men.
Now he wanted to lock me inside my own mansion like I was some prisoner waiting for permission to breathe.
Had he forgotten who I was?
I was Mia Williams. I wasn’t someone people gave orders to, especially not my own uncle.
I pulled out my phone and immediately dialed his number. Each ring only made my anger grow until finally, he answered.
The moment the call connected, I didn’t bother with greetings.
“Why did you change my men?” I asked, my voice sharp. “And why did you put me on house arrest?”
For a moment, there was only silence. Then his voice came through.
“Is that how you will greet your uncle?”
I clenched my jaw. Of course. Instead of answering me, he wanted to focus on how I spoke to him.
“Uncle, answer me,” I said, my patience slowly disappearing.
“If you want to know, it is for your own good.”
A short laugh escaped my lips, but there was nothing funny about it.
“For my own good?” I repeated. “How exactly is taking away my people and locking me inside my own mansion for my own good?”
“Mia,” he said calmly. Too calmly.
That calmness only made me more uneasy.
“I know you,” he continued. “I know what you are capable of doing, and I won’t sit down and watch you destroy my plan.”
My grip tightened around my phone.
My plan.
That was all this was about. Not me, not how I felt, and not what I wanted. His plan.
“See this house arrest as a vacation,” he continued. “Until Elara leaves Naples City, you will remain in that house because I won’t allow you to see her.”
My breathing stopped for a second.
Elara.
He wasn’t even trying to hide it anymore. He was keeping me away from her because he knew exactly what I would do.
Before I could say anything, the call ended.
I pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at the screen. The call was over. Just like that.
I waited for a moment, thinking maybe he would call back, but he didn’t.
A strange heaviness settled inside me.
Why would he do this to me?
He was my uncle. The same person who raised me, the same person who held my hand when I was younger, and the same person who always told me he would protect me.
But now he was the one standing in my way.
I lowered my phone slowly, then turned toward my car and slammed my hand against it.
“Never,” I whispered. I wouldn’t let my uncle and Adrian’s plan happen.
I wouldn’t stand by and watch them take away Elara’s memories like she was nothing.
Like her life didn’t matter. No matter what it took, I would protect her.
But first… I had to find a way out.
My eyes moved around the mansion.
The guards, the cameras, the unfamiliar faces watching my every move.
This place that had always been my home suddenly felt different.
Like a cage.
And the people standing around me were the ones holding the key.
How was I supposed to escape from the men my uncle had placed here to watch me?
I needed a plan.
