Chapter 190 Support System
Chapter 190 Support System
Lex's POV
Just like she promised me, she walked in with me, and we were not alone. Landon also followed, and as we walked into the living room, I saw them – not just the chairman; his wife stood right there beside him and a few other faces, but only one of them struck me.
She looked exactly like my mother except she was a little older.
"M...m…um?" I called out to her, my voice breaking at first as I let go of Lisa's hand, stepping closer to her.
"Lex..." She whispered, "Lex, I have waited so long for this day. I knew that day was going to come when you found me, and here you are," she said to me, stepping closer in the exact same voice as my mother, and everything suddenly began to go blurry.
My mother was dead. She was dead. How could she be standing here, or was I dead too?
"Lex!" I heard Lisa's voice call me loudly as I jolted out of my imagination, and as I tried to get knowledge of where I was, I saw her face again.
We stared at each other in silence for a few seconds before she suddenly wrapped her arms around me, but it still felt like a dream. I felt like I was going to wake up and realise that it was all a game.
"You are alive?" I asked, my gaze fixed on her, as I wondered how this was even possible. How could my mother be alive, and all these years I had always cried over her death?
"I know this is going to be very difficult for me to explain to you, Lexi." That's what she calls me; the memories were hitting too quickly. "But I am very sorry about everything you must have been through thinking I was dead; your father wanted me dead. He killed me, but what he did not know was I did not die, and then he did all of that burial stuff, and my family had to keep me hidden. I couldn't reach you, else he was going to know I was still alive, but I was waiting for when you would willingly come back to me, and I swear to you I am never going to leave your side again."
As I listened to her say all those things, it felt like I was dreaming, like I was really dreaming, and I wanted to pinch myself so hard that I would wake up screaming my mother's name.
"All these years I thought you were actually dead; I grieved, I cried for months, years and every day until today. I still remember you, and I hurt so much," I said to her, falling to my knees as she came down to her knees, holding me tight in an embrace, yet I couldn't even feel. All I wanted to do was stare in her face.
"I am so sorry, son. I never meant to put you through any of this. I did not want you to suffer for my sake. I thought maybe it was best that you thought I was dead; that way you could eventually find peace and move on, and I wouldn't have to complicate your life with dramas, but every time I secretly prayed that our path was going to cross again and I could explain to you what happened."
"He tried to kill you? Why would he do that to me when he knew that he was not a good enough parent to me?" I asked, unable to wrap my head around what was happening right in front of my eyes, and just then she helped me up on my feet.
"I'm going to explain everything to you, but first of all, I want you to know that what you came to Boston to do, you need to do it really quickly because your father now knows your location, and he is sending people here to get you," she said. At that point, Lisa's and my gazes met as we suddenly seemed alert.
"I can't leave now, Mum; I can't just leave. I mean, I haven't seen you in years; I have to stay a little longer."
"No, Lexi, you have to go now; he's tracking your every move, and if he finds out that you are here, he's going to know that something is missing, so you need to go. Take the route that leads north, and you are going to find the ancient seer that you seek," she said to me, and just then I was rather startled.
"How did you know about that, Mum?" My question came as quickly as she finished speaking as I wondered exactly how she knew the reason we had come to Boston.
"Because I know you, son, and I have been watching you every day, and I have not taken my eyes off you. I know everything about you. I have been watching you grow; I have watched you fall in love." Her gaze moved to Lisa, and she smiled. "I have been growing with you, and I want you to know that I am going to do everything I can to protect you from him. I am not going to let him get to you the way he got to me, or let me say, almost got to me." Those words sent shivers into my spine, and I found myself shaking.
"Is this happening?" I asked, turning my gaze to Lisa now.
"It is Lex, and we need to go right now. We are going to come back to see your mum again if that's okay," Lisa said to me, and I nodded my head slowly as I stood up from the couch where I had sat down, my gaze still fixed on my mother as Landon and Lisa let me out of the door.
It felt like I was in a completely different world, and I kept feeling different things. First I still couldn't believe how my mother was out there in the world and I was mourning an empty grave.
"So he was the one that killed; no, he tried to kill her. No wonder that…that night he didn't have a care in the world; instead, he was in that room with another woman making out. Is he even my father?"
