Chapter 170 An Enemy We All Knew

Chapter 170 An Enemy We All Knew
ALMA

I slowly shifted on the bed, and my hand instantly landed on a strong chest.

My brow furrowed as I blinked and sat up immediately.

I turned my head, only to find Sebastian sleeping peacefully beside me.

When did he get back? And why am I in his bed? I remember falling asleep in my father's room.

Either way, I like it here too. Our bed feels like home.

I swallowed hard and adjusted myself, lying back down to face him.

I stared at how handsome he looked while he slept. A smile tugged at my lips as I shifted closer and traced the line of his eyebrows, then slowly ran my finger down to his eyelashes. I stopped at the tip of his nose before tracing over his soft lips.

I swallowed hard as my heart began pounding.

The urge to kiss him overwhelmed me.

I slowly leaned closer and gently pressed my lips against his.

I looked at his face.

He didn't even blink.

My brow furrowed in confusion.

Was he really that tired? Did he not even realize I had kissed him?

I kissed him again.

Still no reaction.

My heart sank as a terrible thought crossed my mind.

I immediately placed my ear against his chest to listen for his heartbeat.

“It’s beating for you." His voice came instantly, making me gasp in shock.

Before I could react, he rolled over, pinning me beneath him.

“You're scared of losing me?” he asked, rubbing the tip of his nose against mine.

My heart raced as the warmth of his body pressed against mine.

“I... I'm not scared of losing...” I stammered, turning my face away.

He chuckled.

“That hurts, Alma. I’m scared of losing you, but you aren’t even scared of losing me,” he said, pretending to sob.

Why is he suddenly being so dramatic?

“So, should I go back to my favorite song?” he teased.

My eyes widened.

He was making fun of how emotional I had become the last time.

I honestly didn't know why I reacted that way.

“Stop it, Sebastian. Fine... I'm scared of losing you,” I blurted out.

He gasped dramatically before quickly kissing me twice and finally getting off me.

“I just took my kisses back. Why were you kissing me while I was asleep?” he asked, raising his chin proudly like a child.

He seemed to be in an unusually good mood.

What happened?

Did my father say something to him last night?

And how had he managed to convince my father to let him carry me out of his room?

“Alma, get up. We need to get ready,” he said while typing on his phone before setting it aside.

“Where are we going?” I asked as I climbed out of bed.

“Lady Flores wants to see you, and we also need to pay our condolences,” he replied calmly.

My heart dropped.

Condolences?

Why?

What happened?

“What happened?” I asked immediately, my heart pounding as I waited for his answer.

“Luis is dead,” he said softly.

My brow furrowed in disbelief.

Luis was dead?

How?

When?

“What happened?” I asked again.

Sebastian explained everything, from Lady Flores and the lawyer visiting Luis and also Luis attempting to escape and getting shot, to how no one came after the hospital contacted his family.

“But Victoria?” I asked.

She was the only person who had genuinely cared about Luis.

Sebastian also told me about the cruel things Luis had said to her before she left in anger.

My heart sank.

Victoria now knew I was pregnant.

Damn it.

That woman is dangerous.

She wouldn't bother kidnapping me the way Luis did.

She would simply kill me.

I have to stay home until the wedding. And if I do go anywhere, it'll only be with Sebastian.

“Unfortunately, the police refused to release his body. They said an autopsy has to be conducted because the doctor confirmed he had severe injuries all over his body. The head of police wants to investigate further, and it seems everyone who was present during the kidnapping will have to explain how Luis ended up covered in injuries and how his leg was broken,” Sebastian explained.

My heart dropped.

My father would be dragged into this.

No...

“But I've already made the necessary arrangements, okay? Only the doctors and I have statements to give. You and your father won't be involved,” he assured me as if reading through my worries.

Relief washed over me.

I reached out and held his hand.

“Sebastian, thank you for helping my father. And whatever happens on your side, we'll face it together, okay?” I said softly.

He chuckled before pulling me into a hug.

“Thank you for being such a good wife,” he whispered.

A small laugh escaped me as warmth spread across my cheeks, making me hug him even tighter.

“Now let's go take a bath, okay?”

I nodded.

A few minutes later, we were both ready and headed downstairs.

Dad and the male nurse were just walking in.

My brow furrowed.

Where had they gone so early?

“Nina, dear,” my dad called happily.

I immediately hurried into his embrace.

He gently rubbed my back before I pulled away.

“Where are you coming from so early?” I asked.

“I went to exercise so I'll be able to stand on my own during your wedding,” he replied playfully.

We both burst into laughter.

His eyes moved between Sebastian and me.

“Where are you two going?” he asked.

I took a deep breath and told him about Luis's death.

He didn't seem surprised.

Maybe Sebastian had already told him.

I also explained that we were going to pay our condolences to Lady Flores.

He asked us to pass along his condolences, and both Sebastian and I nodded before leaving.

Not long afterward, we arrived at the Flores estate.

The place was packed.

My breath caught as I stared at the countless cars filling the driveway.

Sebastian and I got out and headed toward the entrance.

“Oh, my beautiful Alma,” Zane's irritating voice called. Making my skin crawl
He stepped out of a nearby car while a young woman inside was carefully dressing up.

It was very obvious what they had been doing in there this early in the morning.

“Hello, brother-in-law. Long time no see,” he said to Sebastian.

Sebastian just looked at him with disgust and ignored him completely.

Zane chuckled before turning to me.

“Alma, I want to give you some life-saving advice.”

I rolled my eyes, slipped my arm around Sebastian's, and tried to walk past him.

“My sister isn't afraid of dying,” Zane said casually. “She told me the only thing keeping her alive is the fact that she wants to take you down with her. So be careful. One enemy is gone, but the dangerous one is still alive.”

He casually got back into his car and drove away.

My entire body went cold.

What... did I just hear?
