Chapter 408 - My Husband, My Secret Lover
Author POV
With a meaningful look, Luke watched the interaction between the two of them and then couldn't help chuckling. At this time, Yvonne and Christina woke up, yawning and rubbing their eyes with a sleepy look.
Picking Christina up, Stela grabbed her little hand to stop Christina from rubbing her eyes in case the bacteria went into her eyes. At the same time, she asked Hayden directly, "How did you come here last night?"
"What? Stela, didn't Mr.King come here together with you last night?" Luke asked in surprise.
Shaking her head slightly, Stela said, "No. I thought it was you who helped him walk up the stairs and come here. But it seems that it wasn't the case."
Facing her questioning and Luke's surprised look, Hayden didn't say anything. Lowering his head, he steadied Yvonne who was turning over in his arms for fear that she would fall.
At this moment, Aelius also woke up. He vaguely remembered that he watched the stars with Stela and his two sisters last night and later Hayden came, so as soon as he woke up, he called Stela and Hayden in a low mumble. When he opened his eyes and saw Stela and Hayden together, he was pleasantly surprised and said, "You two finally make up with each other!"
Feeling embarrassed, neither Hayden nor Stela said anything to reply to him. The two of them turned their faces away and said simultaneously, "Let's go downstairs and have breakfast first." As soon as they finished their words, both of them were stunned. Then the two of them fell into silence simultaneously.
After a few seconds, Stela couldn't help breaking the silence. With her eyes bright with tears, she said in a soft voice, "You haven't answered my question. Did you walk here carrying your wheelchair alone, Hayden?" As she said that, her voice became lower and lower and she imagined the scene of Hayden walking upstairs with difficulty while carrying a wheelchair. Hayden, your legs are so badly injured that it is even difficult for you to stand up. You must have suffered great pain when you walked, she thought.
Hearing her words, Hayden shook his head and said indifferently, "It's none of your business."
Stela's fair skin set off the redness of her tearful eyes, which made her look pitiful.
When Hayden saw that she was about to cry, his heart softened and he added, "Take the children downstairs. It's time for them to have breakfast."
After saying that, he looked over Stela at the horizon in the distance. In the early morning, the view from the top floor was awesome.
Soon, a distant look appeared on his face and
no one knew what he was thinking.
Hearing the conversation between the two of them, Luke finally understood what had happened and said, "Mr. King, the doctor has told you many times that you can't walk in your current condition or all the previous treatments will be in vain. How could you ignore the doctor's instruction?"
In contrast, Hayden looked rather calm as if nothing had happened. "Uncle Luke, don't worry. I'm fine. You had a busy day yesterday and must be very tired. You can have a day off today," he said lightly.
When Luke was about to say something else, Hayden immediately continued, "By the way, Uncle Luke, tell the others that I'm home and they don't need to look for me anymore."
Hayden had been on the terrace and knew nothing about what happened in the house. But judging from Luke's flustered look and Stela's thin clothes, he guessed that the others in the house were looking for him and the three children anxiously.
"OK," Luke replied to him in a helpless tone and went downstairs.
After he left, only Stela, Hayden, and the three children were on the terrace. Before Hayden could say anything, Stela, who knew that he would ask her to leave again, immediately said, "If you don't tell me how you got here, I won't leave."
"No matter how I got here, it's not what you think it is," Hayden said and pulled a long face.
"I don't believe it," Stela said. With her lips compressing into a thin line, she stared at Hayden stubbornly, waiting for him to tell the truth.
Seeing her like this, Hayden found that she was as stubborn as she used to be in her girlhood. Every time Stela showed such an expression, he would compromise. At the thought of this, he couldn't help feeling a little helpless. Just as he was about to say something ruthless to her with a cold expression, a happy and childish voice broke the serious atmosphere.
"I see. Dad, you must have flown here!" Aelius said as he pointed at the sky with his face full of expectation. "Mom said that you are a superhero! Superheroes can fly. Dad, you are so awesome!"
When Yvonne and Christina, who had been lying in Hayden' and Stela's arms respectively, heard Aelius speaking in such a firm tone, they believed his words without a shadow of doubt.
Yvonne then raised her head to look at Hayden and said with admiration, "Wow, Dad, you are so great! So you sit in the wheelchair not because your legs are short but because you can fly with your wheelchair?"
"... Yes," Hayden said. Then he picked Yvonne up with his warm and broad hands, let her sit steadily on his lap, and gently smoothed her messy hair.
"Dad, may I take a look at your wheelchair?" Christina's eyes lit up with curiosity. She was wondering if Hayden' wheelchair had wings.
The children did not know what the wheelchair was used for and thought it was the equipment of a superhero. Listening to the children's questions, Stela smiled bitterly and approached Hayden with Christina in her arms so that Christina could see the electric wheelchair clearly.
At the same time, in the villa, Luke told the others that he had found Hayden and the children and asked them to go back to work. Then he told the cook to prepare breakfast as soon as possible. After arranging everything well, he went upstairs to the terrace again. Since he was worried about Hayden, he walked very fast. When he turned the corner, he stumbled and almost fell.
"That was close. I almost fell," he said, holding the stair railing and breathing a sigh of relief. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw something gray in the corner. When he walked over and took a closer look at it, he found it was cigarette ash. Looking around, he saw some cigarette butts at the foot of the staircase.
Mr. King smoked again, Luke thought and sighed. Then he found that standing here and looking up in the direction of the top floor, he could see everything at the terrace on the top floor.
......
Last night, Hayden, who had paid attention to Stela and the children these days, knew that they would come to the terrace to watch the stars so he also came here secretly.
