Chapter 329. Forced to Watch
Chapter 329. Forced to Watch
“You bastards! Don’t touch her! Stay away from her! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!”
Kevin roared like a wild animal. All he could do was stare as those men reached out with their filthy hands and touched Helena’s body. He heard every obscene thing they said and saw the lustful smiles spreading across their faces, while Helena could only scream helplessly and beg them to stop.
His whole body began to shake.
At first, only the fingertips gripping the phone were trembling. Then the shaking quickly spread upward, from his fingers to both arms, then to his shoulders, and finally through his entire chest. Kevin’s upper and lower teeth knocked together, making a rapid chattering sound, yet the inside of his body felt frighteningly hot. His blood seemed to be boiling in his veins, rushing straight into his head and burning away the last small bit of reason he still had left.
He wanted to charge straight through the screen. He wanted to grab every man surrounding Helena with his own hands and tear them apart, piece by piece, until there was nothing left of them. But even though Kevin clenched his hand so hard that the casing of the phone let out a faint creak, the things happening in the video did not change in the slightest.
Helena’s cries for help were drowned out by the men’s vulgar laughter. She desperately tried to twist her body away from them, but the chair was being held firmly in place and would not move. Her wrists were already bleeding, yet she still struggled with all the strength she had, fighting as if her life depended on it. The more violently she fought, the deeper the ropes cut into her skin and flesh, leaving the wounds around her wrists even worse.
Kevin clearly saw every drop of blood running along her fingers before falling down. Each drop felt as if it had fallen straight into his heart, leaving behind a burning pain that was almost unbearable.
Kevin’s vision turned red, then black. He did not know whether he was still breathing or whether he had already stopped. His lungs contracted violently, but no air could get inside. It felt as if an invisible hand had closed tightly around his throat, crushing the scream that had just come out of him until only broken, hoarse sounds remained.
He did not dare to blink, yet he also did not dare to keep watching. His eyelids seemed to have been nailed open. Even though the pain was so sharp that his eyes felt ready to split apart, he still stared fixedly at the screen without looking away.
He suddenly stepped forward. His other hand reached hard into the empty air, clawing at nothing as though he could pull that man away from her. But there was only cold wind in front of him, along with the flower bushes growing in the garden.
Kevin lost his footing, and his whole body dropped heavily onto his knees against the tiled ground. His knees struck the tiles with a deep, dull sound.
“No…” His voice was so hoarse that it could barely be heard.
Kevin knew the people in the video could not hear him. He knew this was only something that had already happened. He knew that even if he screamed until his throat tore open, he still could not stop any of it.
But he still could not control himself.
His eyes were so red that they looked as if blood might start leaking from them. The veins along his neck stood out sharply, stretched tight beneath his skin. Kevin crawled forward while screaming, as though Helena were truly only a few steps away from him and he could still reach her if he moved fast enough.
“Helena… Helena…”
At first, his voice was still clear enough to understand. Then it slowly broke apart, turning into a rough, choked roar that no longer sounded like a human voice.
He knelt on the ground, his eyes opened wide as he stared at her. The fingers holding the phone curled tightly in on themselves. His nails dug so deeply into his flesh that even more blood began to flow out.
Kevin felt as though his heart had been squeezed until it lost its shape. A sharp, violent pain rushed from his chest all the way up into his throat. He opened his mouth, wanting to answer her, but only a stream of burning hot air came out.
Kevin slowly lowered his head, and his tears fell straight onto the phone screen.
The clear tears mixed with the bloodstains on the screen, making Helena’s face in the video turn blurry. Kevin immediately panicked and tried to wipe it clean with his hand, but his palm was also covered in blood. The more he wiped, the dirtier and more smeared the screen became.
He hurriedly rubbed it with his sleeve, his movements rushed, clumsy, and completely out of control.
Helena was still begging them. Her hoarse voice echoed through the empty warehouse, so weak that almost any other sound could have drowned it out.
But Kevin heard her very clearly. Every single word entered his ears. Every word seemed to drag pieces of flesh out from inside his chest.
Kevin suddenly felt that he himself was even more frightening than Andrea.
Andrea was a madman, and he had never once tried to hide his cruelty.
But Kevin had used hatred as an excuse to do all those cruel things to Helena, and afterward, he had still believed that he was the one who had been hurt. He had forced her to explain herself while she was already trapped in despair.
When she told him the truth, he refused to listen. When she cried, he believed she was only pretending. When she wanted to leave, he used the Miller family to force her to come back. Even when she had been kidnapped, she was still afraid that he would look down on her.
Kevin suddenly raised a hand and clamped it tightly around his own throat. His fingers pressed hard into his flesh, in the exact same place where he had once wrapped his hand around Helena’s neck.
He wanted to feel it for himself. He wanted to know how much pain she had been in at that time. He wanted to know how terrifying it was to be unable to breathe and still have to look at the person she loved with pleading eyes, begging him to stop.
