175. Who's the wrong here?
Sedrik
“So this whole shipment came from the fae kingdom?” I asked the chief of staff as I looked at the chests of precious gems stacked in the warehouse awaiting my return, so he could tell me that it had arrived in my pack.
“Yes, my Alpha,” the man said. “Queen Noor sent all this wealth as a gift for the birth of your child, Alpha. She is looking forward now to when the boy grows up and becomes a man so that she can marry one of her daughters as agreed between you.”
I sighed resignedly. I still had that detail to deal with, I had already forgotten about the deal that Alana and I made with Queen Noor in exchange for the antidote when I was sick and needed the medicine to have the strength to defeat the usurper.
Alana didn't even want to make that deal, but I insisted so much, and now that child was doomed to marry one of Noor's children. Could it be that when the fairy queen found out that the child was actually not a boy but a girl, she still wanted one of her children to marry the girl? That was a doubt I had. Lately, I was having a lot of doubts regarding the fact that the baby that Alana had been carrying in her womb all this time was totally wrong, something I wasn't waiting for.
I tried to stop and imagine a future where I accepted the fact that my heir would be an alpha girl and not a boy, and I couldn't reconcile that with reality. I couldn't stop blaming myself for having condemned my pack to that totally wrong and unusual scenario for our people.
“Very well,” I said after sighing. “Take all this treasure to the leader’s coffers and send a letter of thanks to the fae queen,” I ordered, and then I walked away from that deposit.
I had barely slept that night, of course, it was impossible to sleep with everything that was tormenting me. So I woke up early and went to solve the thousands of things that awaited me because of those days I spent away, there were small disputes between people in the pack to resolve, sales and purchases of goods to confirm, common problems to solve and gifts that arrived from the packs and the neighboring kingdoms, since everyone knew that my child had been born and since I was an alpha, it was a custom to receive gifts of happiness.
I'd rather spend the whole day doing this to keep my mind occupied and not think about what I was avoiding thinking about so much. I never realized how serious things could be between my wife and me regarding that baby. Likewise, I thought we were going to take it easy and resolve things like we always did, without having to test our love, but this time things were different, Alana seemed to be really pissed and wanting to end it all, which that made me feel terrible.
While I was running some errands at the market, I saw Wallace and Toby coming towards me. They had frowns on their faces, and I already knew what the hell they wanted to do with me. So I swore under my breath and turned and walked away as if I hadn't seen them, if I was lucky, they would lose sight of me. But the boys were smarter than me and interspersed me.
“Where do you think you’re going, Alpha?” Wallace said as he stopped in front of me.
“Were you running away from us, by any chance?” Toby asked with a somewhat manic look on his face.
I rolled my eyes with a sigh. “You fucking sluts!” I cursed in a low voice, knowing there was no way out of this anymore. “What do you want? Can’t you see I’m fucking working?” I pushed them away and started walking again at a steady pace.
“Working bullshit. You’re just trying to avoid the shit you’re getting yourself into!” Toby pointed out, as he was now walking next to me along with Wallace, who was on the other side.
“And that's not your business,” I said rudely, while still walking steadily.
"Okay? Fuck it,” Wallace said, looking like he had no more patience. “If you want to fuck up your own life, your own marriage and your own family, then okay? This is your issue, and we don't have to get involved, but don't drag us into this shit, okay? Man, Skylar is pissed at me, demanding that I have to talk sense into your head. Can you believe that?” He gave a skeptical laugh.
“I'm in the same shit too, man. My fiancée even kicked me out of the house, saying that it’s my fault for what’s happening to Lady Alana, can you believe that?” Toby also seemed upset.
I really understood that since Alana and those women were so close, they were taking her pain to them too. It was to be expected what her true friends could do. But at that moment, I didn't want to listen to them. I just sighed and looked at the two. “And where the hell is this my fault?” I looked at them with a bored face.
The two looked in shock. “Are you really going to do this, Sedrik? Are you going to divorce Alana?” Wallace asked, completely skeptical.
I stopped walking and looked at them now after looking at the surrounding movement. Now we were almost in the city's main square, and there wasn't that much movement at that time, so I felt safe talking directly to the two of them. “Let’s not pretend here, guys. You know where this is going in my marriage,” I told them.
“It’s because of the child, right?” Toby guessed.
“You know, this isn't what I was expecting,” I replied after sighing.
“But, Sedrik. You're being a bit of a hypocrite when you hold on to this because you were willing to marry her even though you knew she wasn't going to give you any heirs. You at that time were willing to live without children at that time because of the love you had for her, and now that she gave you a child, even though it wasn't one you were expecting, why are you going to leave the love of your life for that? ” Wallace threw that in my face, clicking his tongue.
“You guys tell me, then.” I threw the question at them, taking a step closer to them. “Would you ever accept that the next generation of this pack would be ruled by a woman?”
Wallace shrugged, and Toby scratched his head. “Well, until then, you can try to find another way to solve this problem, like you always do,” the youngest said, rummaging through his head for a solution.
“What about your harem?” Wallace remembered. “I'm sure one of the girls in your old harem can give you an Alpha son. Well, he won't be a firstborn like he should be, but he's still an alpha boy and can handle the pack,” he shrugged.
“Who’s the hypocrite now, right?” I threw those words in their faces so they could see how selfish they were being and then walk away. As if I was really the problem there…
