Chapter 62 THE AFTERMATH
Chapter 62 THE AFTERMATH
ARYA'S POV
“Nurse Trisha, let’s get her positioned. And let’s start with the IV drip.” Dr. Kelvin instructed.
“Come and lie down here.” Nurse Trisha instructed.
I nodded as I walked slowly towards the bed.
Damn, I couldn't believe I was going to do this.
If I was going to lie naked before then, what was the use of the gown? I was already getting annoyed, forgetting my anxiety.
I climbed onto the bed as the bed made squeaking sounds while I positioned myself. My legs were put up in the stirrups— a position that felt so exposed and uncomfortable.
I wanted to pull my knees together, to curl into a ball, but I couldn’t. My body was no longer mine; it was a site for a procedure.
Nurse Trisha started swabbing a patch of skin on my arm, and then I felt the sharp prick of a needle. A clear fluid began to drip from a bag overhead into my vein.
“This is a mild sedative, dear. Just to help you relax a bit and to prepare for the pain medication.” She explained.
I was no longer listening to her, I just wanted to endure this pain and get done with it.
My body started to feel numb, my eyesight became blurry. The smell of the hospital had already begun to get farther than I could perceive, my whole body was changing, taking a different and a painful turn.
Dr. Kelvin moved closer, his face now masked, leaving only his eyes.
“Last chance, Arya.” He said in a low voice.
“Are you absolutely sure?”
I felt the sedative pulling me under, making my thoughts sluggish, my reaction slow.
“Yes.” I heard myself reply heavily as my body was reacting to the sedative I was injected with.
“Very well. Nurse, let’s increase the drip. I want her fully prepped.”
I gasped, my breath seemed to be rushed and ceasing.
“Breathe, Arya. Just breathe. It’s almost over. You’re doing well.” Dr. Kelvin said.
I tightened my eyes shut, trying to focus on Stella’s face, on the image of the pizza she promised, on anything but the agonizing sensation in my abdomen. It felt like a violent, internal cramping.
“Ahhhhhh…” I let out a scream, not enduring it any longer.
“You're doing well Arya, just hold still.” Dr. Kelvin said as he continued with the procedure.
Hot tears rolled from the corners of my eyes.
“A little more pressure, Arya. Just a few more seconds,” Dr. Kelvin instructed.
I didn't know if I could endure this pain, I tried to hold back, tightly grabbing the edge of the bed I could lay my hands on.
I was shaking, my entire body convulsing with silent sobs.
“Finished. See? That wasn’t so bad, now was it?” Dr. Kelvin said, as he took off his gloves carefully.
My whole world felt like it had been turned inside out. I couldn’t speak. I could only lie there, thinking about nothing but the pain.
Nurse Trisha was gentle now, cleaning the area and helping me to sit up. The sedative was still heavy in my bloodstream.
“You did well, dear. Now, we’re going to wheel you to the recovery room. You need to rest for at least two hours.” She said,
As she wheeled the bed out, past the prep area, I managed to glance at the basin next to the operating table. My eyes blurred, but I caught a glimpse of something small, dark, and utterly insignificant, now disposable. I immediately averted my gaze, fighting back a wave of nausea.
Nurse Trisha helped me onto a bed after which she tucked me gently under the blanket and pulled the curtain to maintain my privacy.
A few moments later, the curtain rustled as someone was trying to open or pass through it.
“Arya?” It was Stella.
I breathed a sigh of relief as I saw her. Tears streaming down the corners of my eyes.
She rushed to sit beside me on the bed as she held my hands.
“Oh, babe. You’re shaking. Are you okay? Did it hurt a lot?”
I nodded as tears rolled down.
She hugged me and I immediately pushed her a little, groaning in silent pain.
“Oh sorry dear.” She immediately apologized as she realized my stomach was hurting.
“Did the doctor say anything? How long till we can leave?”
“He said I have to rest for two hours,” I replied weakly.
“Okay. I’ll be right here, I’m not leaving you. Just sleep, if you can. Try to relax.”
I tried to relax but I couldn't, the lower part of my body felt wounded, hurt and numb.
A sudden emptiness just took over me, I didn't know what to feel.
Stella rubbed my hand, a gentle reminder to tell me that she was always there for me and would never leave me.
“Thank you for being with me.” I said silently. She massaged my body gently while using her thumb to wipe away the tears falling from my eyes.
“Don’t mention, right now, all you need to do is heal. Physically and… you know.”
Emotionally. She didn’t need to say the word.
I tried to sleep, drifting in and out but I couldn't get my mind to rest. Each time, Stella was there, holding my hands as she scrolled through her phone.
After what felt like a lifetime, Nurse Trisha entered the room.
“Two hours are up, Arya. Time to get you dressed and discharged.”
Arya helped me up the bed on one side while the nurse also assisted me.
My clothes were out as I groaned in constant pain as my pelvis ached so badly.
“For how long will she feel the pain before it subsides?” Arya asked Nurse Trisha as she was worried.
“Two to three days and she will be fine. It can even be under a day. She should have enough bed rest and eat well, mostly vegetables to replenish the lost blood.” Nurse Trisha stated.
“Okay nurse, thank you so much.” Stella said.
“Thank you.” I murmured with a dry smile as the nurse nodded.
I limped my way out of the room, groaning as my pain radiated from my pelvis.
“Sorry Arya.” Stella kept apologizing on and on as if she was the cause of the pain.
When she saw that I could no longer endure it, she carried me all the way out of the hospital down to the road, where we got a cab to go home.
I'm the cab, I leaned my head against the glass window with my eyes closed, writhing silently in pain.
“We will soon get home already?” Stella said to me as she rubbed the back of my hands softly.
“Please can you drive faster but be careful?” Stella instructed the cab driver.
She wanted us to get home as quickly as possible.
We stopped on the way as she purchased some fruits before we continued back to her home.
“Why fruits? No pizza?” I asked her as I kept groaning in pain.
“No pizza for you. I'll get it some other time.” Stella replied.
“So you lied to me.” I said as I pushed her hand away from mine.
“No my darling. You heard what the nurse said. You lost a lot of blood during the procedure. How are you feeling now?” She asked me.
“I'm exhausted… just cramps.” I replied as I slowly closed my eyes and reopened them again.
