Chapter 59
Scarlett felt a whirlwind of emotions.
"Mr. King and Ms. Green, you two are truly made for each other," she managed to say before excusing herself again. "I need to go; my colleagues are waiting for me."
But before she could take a step, Jessica's excited voice rang out, "Alexander!"
The sound of a man's footsteps approached.
Scarlett quickened her pace immediately. She had no desire to be caught up in unnecessary small talk with these two.
However, Jessica wasn't about to let her go so easily. As soon as she saw Alexander, her thoughts returned to the previous topic.
She ran over, holding Scarlett's arm, and asked before Alexander could get close, "Alexander, have you seen Sebastian?"
When Alexander shook his head, Jessica frowned.
She glanced at Scarlett with concern before hesitantly speaking, "Scarlett seems to be in trouble. I saw her in the hallway earlier, and her lipstick was smudged, and her lips were bitten."
"Alexander, I'm really worried about her, but Scarlett won't tell me anything."
Scarlett suddenly felt something was off. Not only was Jessica suddenly acting overly familiar, but her words also sounded strange.
She claimed to be worried, but it felt more like she was accusing Scarlett of cheating on Sebastian.
Sebastian was missing, her lipstick was smudged, and her lips were bitten. Jessica emphasized these points as if she was accusing Scarlett of having an affair behind Sebastian's back.
Scarlett couldn't help but glance at Jessica. She didn't recall having any grudges with her, so why would Jessica do this? Was it just to help Emma marry into the Black family?
It seemed Jessica and Emma were closer than she had thought.
Lost in her thoughts, Scarlett looked up and met Alexander's gaze. His face was still dark and brooding.
Jessica, acting coquettishly, shook Alexander's arm. "Alexander, you should ask Scarlett."
Alexander shot Jessica a cold look. "Ms. Collins never lacks men. What's there to ask?"
His face was full of impatience as he pulled his arm away from Jessica, not caring that she stumbled unprepared.
Scarlett was stunned by his response. Her complex emotions were suddenly replaced by an urge to laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Did Alexander remember that he was one of those men when he said that?
Scarlett felt a twinge of annoyance.
Up until now, Alexander was the only man she had ever been with!
But then again, she had told him those very words herself in the fitting room earlier.
Feeling the frustration of being unable to refute, Scarlett thought for a moment and then relaxed. She smiled at Jessica. "Jessica, don't worry, I'll tell you."
"I'm fine, really. I was just bitten by a dog." Scarlett glanced at Alexander, feeling a strange satisfaction as his expression darkened further.
"I told you I had an urgent matter because I needed to go to the hospital for a rabies shot."
Jessica was taken aback by this answer.
She had only wanted Alexander to know that Scarlett was unfaithful and unworthy of marrying into the Black family. But Alexander's reaction was not what she had expected.
She glanced cautiously at Alexander. He stood there like a statue, unmoving.
Jessica could only manage an awkward smile. "Oh, I see."
Scarlett waved at them. "It's getting late, I need to get my shot. Goodbye, Mr. King, Ms. Green!"
Feeling triumphant, Scarlett's steps were lighter. After walking a distance, she remembered she was supposed to wait for Moira there.
Embarrassed, she pulled out her phone and messaged Moira: [Change of plans, I'll wait for you outside the venue.]
She was determined not to return to that place.
After Scarlett left, Alexander had no intention of staying either. He calmed himself and headed for the door.
But soon, he had to stop. Jessica was following him closely, her dress making it difficult for her to keep up without almost running.
"Alexander, can you take me home?"
Alexander was annoyed. Although he had known Jessica for a while, they had no real connection.
If it weren't for Jay's instructions to look after a friend's daughter, they would be like strangers.
Moreover, Jessica's attitude towards him was odd. And Scarlett seemed to be trying to push him towards Jessica to get rid of him.
Not to mention, Jessica had recently upset Scarlett.
Alexander found it all very irritating and had no desire to interact with Jessica further. "I don't think we're heading in the same direction, Ms. Green."
Jessica hesitated. "How can that be? I also live at the Black Mansion."
"Who told you I live at the Black Mansion?" Alexander didn't even look up. "Call the Black Mansion and have a driver pick you up."
He was about to leave, but Jessica persisted. "Alexander, Mr. Black said you should take care of me."
Alexander paused. Jessica must have Jay's favor, or she wouldn't be so confident.
While he could ignore Jay's words, there were still things he needed Jay's approval for in the future.
Alexander called Mike. "Come to the venue and take Jessica home."
He made no effort to hide his conversation from Jessica, who heard everything clearly. This was the best Alexander was willing to do for her.
Jessica bit her lip, feeling that Alexander seemed more irritable than usual tonight.
Although he didn't like her, he had never been this dismissive.
Had she done something to displease him?
She thought hard and remembered Scarlett.
Could it be that Alexander, as the head of the family, was finally fed up with Scarlett's flirtatious behavior?
Was that why he was acting so out of character, affecting his mood towards her?
After all, if Scarlett was indeed cheating, it would be a major scandal for the Black family.
The more Jessica thought about it, the more it made sense.
She glanced at Alexander, who stood there impatiently, frequently checking his phone. His face was strikingly handsome, even his profile seemed to entice.
Not only was he incredibly good-looking, but he was also the undisputed heir to the Black Group in Phoenix City.
In this world, perhaps only Alexander's rumored ex-girlfriend was indifferent enough to let go of a man like him.
Jessica made up her mind. She would make Alexander fall for her. This perfect man had to be hers!
