Chapter 9 : Damn!
Chapter 9 : Damn!
Due to the tiredness of the night, I only woke up at eleven o'clock. And I only woke up with my smartphone ringing.
I picked it up, looked at the screen to see who was calling, it was Ashley. I ignored it, pretended I was sleeping or busy with my business outside the fraternity. It worked, the call stopped.
Five minutes later she called again. “Damn!”
I answered.
“Hello?! If you need more blood, forget about me, I'm dead after spending the night standing at that party.”
“Come back to life, my friend, I need a favor. Darlings, obey, Friends, do favors!”
“What is it Ashley?!”
“I want you to buy me an outfit!”
“ Can't order online? There are other Darlings to pick up at Pink Mansion during the day.”
“ No you silly girl! I need you to use your fashion design skills and pick out a cool outfit for me so I can go out at night. I don't want a dress, I need jeans.”
“ I'll look for it after I'm done resurrecting here.”
“ Okay! Choose one for me and bring me this Saturday night, and choose one for yourself too, but go out together to a friends event.”
“Okay, I’ll go, eight o’clock last night.”
“Great, I’ll be waiting for you, kisses, Friend!”
“Kisses to you too!” I hung up the phone and threw it against the wall, and lay there until sleep took me again.
I woke up at one o'clock in the afternoon. I farted!
I got ready and went to fulfill my role as a ‘Friend’.
I thought about which store I would go to? I remembered Poline and there I went to her store.
The pretty attendant was there. I told her I wanted to see the latest jeans. She showed me a wonderful collection. One better than the other. I chose a pair of Voyage jeans, they were dark and very tight. Which would show off Ashley's great body. I also bought a white t-shirt and a denim blouse that matched the jeans. If Ashley didn't like them, I could go fuck herself.
When it was time to check out, Poline appeared. Smiling, she said to the saleswoman:
“It’s on the house! I’ll pay for it!”
Because of the little friendship we had, I joked about the situation.:
“ If you leave everything up to the house, your store will go bankrupt.”
“ Don't worry. In return, I earn enough to cover these discounts. Can you come to my office for a moment, Erika Mina?”
How do you say no to someone who gives you discounts and lets you take free stuff from the store?
“ Of course!”
I was taken to the office. Everything was beautiful and bright. The curtain was blue.
“Is there nothing pink here?”
Poline smiled. “I’m still a preppy girl, but pink loses its flavor over time. Speaking of pink, I heard you’re a Friend now!”
“Yeah! I moved up the ranks.”
“ That's great, so we're the same. We're Friends!”
I smiled.
“So do you already know the reason for donating blood?”
“ Yes! Now I know… didn’t you become a Diva because of that?”
“ Did Ashley tell you?”
“ Yes! She said you chose to live a mortal life, with your with wrinkles…”
Damn, I shouldn't have said that. Poline had a sense of humor though and laughed.
“ Sorry, don't tell Ashley I told you that.”
“ Don't worry, Ashley and I had that sense of humor. Yes, I really didn't want to become a vampire, live like a monster, drinking other people's blood... Okay, I won't deny that sometimes I look at my age in the mirror and think why didn't I immortalize myself like Ashley? She will be young forever, not me. But the pleasure of seeing the sun rise, and not having to drink other people's blood, makes me see that I don't regret continuing to be human.”
“I understand!”
She looked at me seriously and asked: “And you? Are you going to become a vampire when you are in your last year of college?”
“I really don't know, do you think I should?”
“ I'm sorry, my Friend, but that's up to you to decide. Becoming a vampire, as you know, has its advantages. Old age will never catch up with you. You'll keep the beauty of your twenties forever...”
“ As long as you don't see the sun!”
“ Exactly, you'll have to live in fear of the sun forever. And on top of that, you'll have to run away from hunters...”
That intrigued me: “So there are vampire hunters?”
“ Yes! A vampire's immortality doesn't end with just a sunbath, but with a silver blade! If a vampire has his neck cut, he never regenerates.”
“I thought vampires already had blood donors, that they didn't need to go around biting necks anymore.”
“ Blood donors help those who don't want to attract the attention of the Blades and human authorities, but sometimes donors aren't enough. So...”
“ So, they take the force?”
“ Like an obese person attacking a refrigerator. Without thinking about the consequences. Have you noticed on the news and on milk cartons? Missing people? Especially children…”
“ Oh, no! Children don't…”
“ They call them blood traffickers... if you become a vampire and go days without taking a dose of the vital liquid, you'll have to resort to one of them.”
“ Never!”
“ So think carefully before becoming a vampire, the taste of the pink flavored drop is also bitter.”
I smiled nervously, seeing myself sucking someone's neck, it's not appropriate for a preppy girl to do that, especially if she's wearing pink clothes, because the red blood stains and is difficult to remove.
“Let’s leave these dark matters aside.” Poline said, changing the subject abruptly.
“Would you like to work here at my store?”
“I’m already working at another one, and thanks to the Fraternity, I’ve been called more often. Ashley recommended me to people she knows.”
“That’s good, but I wish you’d come here more often.”
She ran her hand through my hair in a strange way.
“What are you talking about?”
“ I like girls your age, so young, so beautiful, so full of life, in the prime of life. If you want, I'll give you some money just for you to come here and be my friend. I support some girls like that. That pretty waitress of mine, after her shift is over, she earns extra money at my house.”
She started to run her hand over my lips, trying to guess his mark. I gently removed her hand.
“I’m sorry, but I’m not interested!”
“Oh, don’t tell me that. Is it because of my age?”
“I have nothing against people like you, women who like women, I just don’t like it.”
“Ah! Okay, I’m sorry I got things mixed up.”
“Okay! Now I have to go!”
Skillfully, but without grace, I got out of there as soon as possible. I had just been invited to become a lesbian call girl. The world of vampires is scary, but it is the humans that scare me.
